Stop new user pages

Can we get a new filter to disallow news users creating their user page as their first edit? This will block lots of spam and unwanted content being added by non-contributors. @Achim55: as someone who spends lots of time dealing with this, would you support this?--BevinKacon (talk) 12:54, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

BevinKacon, on the other hand there are users who already have an edit count on a different wm project and start editing here on Commons. --Achim (talk) 09:45, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Unless CentralAuth can be used, set to warn instead, directing user to sandbox and Commons:User pages.--BevinKacon (talk) 09:33, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

@JMK: There doesn't seem to be any "Cyperus alternifolius textilis" at Wikidata. pandakekok9 08:56, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
@JMK: What makes you think a gallery without media would be a good idea? Please see COM:GALLERY.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:07, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
I think he is trying to move Cyperus textilis to Cyperus alternifolius subsp. textilis. pandakekok9 13:04, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes, as pandakekok9 explains, I want to move the gallery since wikispecies does not recognize Cyperus textilis as the valid name.[1]. Admittedly other sources do.[2] JMK (talk) 20:35, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Report by SamerDajani

@SamerDajani: That's because the resolution (number of pixels) of your photo is too small. Try using a higher resolution on your phone's camera, or a better phone. If that's not possible, use Special:UploadWizard to circumvent the filter. Thanks, pandakekok9 09:08, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
@SamerDajani: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photos as a new user while leaving the summaries intact. Each jpg photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads smaller photos, they are copyright violations taken from the web. If you took the photos yourself, please upload the full-size originals of them, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photos, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the photographer(s) license them on their websites or social media or send the photos and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you. If you change the summaries or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:59, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

@DThorsell: You triggered a filter because your image is too small. Such resolutions are most often copyright violations, so we decided to create a filter for that. Report by Ganymedstanek

@Ganymedstanek: The filter blocks all PNG cross-wiki uploads due to abuse 3 years ago. Regarding the file itself though, it's most likely that the file will be deleted here anyway even if the filter didn't caught it, since the boarding pass has its own copyright. It might survive though if you can get OTRS permission from the airline, or if you can prove that the boarding pass is too simple and is uncopyrightable (see COM:TOO). If you can do either, please upload via Special:UploadWizard, that should circumvent the filter. Thanks, pandakekok9 06:51, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
@Ganymedstanek: hi, and welcome. You indicated that the boarding pass is from Arrow Air. The fact that that company no longer functions as an airline in no way diminishes the fact that the intellectual property it had at the time was protected by copyright, which may have since passed to an heir, successor, or assign. You also indicated that it was your own work, so please see COM:DW.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:31, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Report by Adelexylem

@Adelexylem: The thing that blocked your upload is filter 153, which is triggered if a user is new and tries to upload a small photo (less than 50 kilobytes or less than 5 megapixels resolution) via the cross-wiki upload tool. We had a lot of abuse from this upload tool, and most of those deleted are <50 KB or <5 MP. The filter was created as a result. We apologize for the inconvenience. There are some ways to circumvent this filter: upload the highest resolution with complete EXIF (most modern cameras should be able to take a photo above 5 megapixels), or use Upload Wizard to upload your file. But if you can, please do the first option instead, because not only a higher resolution have (usually) higher quality, it's also a way to prove that you took this photo. Thanks, pandakekok9 07:40, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Where did you see the spelling "klick"?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:44, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Hello thank you for responding. It's merely a screenshot of some words and some error logs. Error logs as in, if you have chrome when you go to developer tools page and some code pops up and then if there are errors in the code it will show you. I resized it because I didn't want to include my hot bar and my tabs up top. I can upload the original size if it will work. By the way, everything was on Wikipedia, it did not include any pictures, just words. Also those words are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license. Including the words, I'm writing right now. Also what does "leaving the summary intact" mean? Also, should I untick the box that it's my work because technically it's not mine but it's on Wikipedia? Also, somebody may have vandalized and changed the source code of a pop-up box that you get when you're done with filing a report. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LucasA04 (talk • contribs) 15:53, 22 April 2020‎ (UTC)

@James Fisher333: Hi. This has happened because you were trying to upload it from the English Wikipedia. Please click here and upload it directly from Commons.
But there is a copyright note about it: the copyright holder of a photograph is the person who has taken it, not the person depicted in it; unless the copyright has been transferred. If I'm not mistaken, this should be the photo you were trying to upload (or a similar one). You are one of the people depicted in the picture. If you are the copyright holder, I think you should send a permission to OTRS and release the photo under a free license. If not, you may ask the photographer to do so. Thank you. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload png and smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg logos as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Such uploads of png logos are not allowed at all. You indicated each is your own work. Usually when someone uploads a logo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin, so you may need to publish the logo and your permission for it on your website or social media or send them via OTRS. Also, any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down or jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg or jpg version, too. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:12, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
