Report by MK GROUP COMPANIES

@MK GROUP COMPANIES: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg images as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Each jpg image you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads smaller images, they are copyright violations taken from the web. If you made the images yourself, please upload the full-size original of them, including EXIF metadata. If you did not make the images, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the copyright holder(s) license them on their websites or social media or send the images and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. In addition, Special:AbuseFilter/122 worked as intended. We do not host encyclopædia articles here on Wikimedia Commons per COM:NOT.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:05, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Report by Elisha Cohen (WMDE)

@Elisha Cohen (WMDE): Hi, seems like you triggered our cross-wiki upload filter by uploading a file with a small filesize. The reason why we created this filter is because we had a lot of abuses from the cross-wiki upload feature back then (like 3 years or 2 years ago). You could upload again by a direct method (that is, using either Special:Upload or Special:UploadWizard in this wiki instead of on Meta). pandakekok9 02:33, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
And since you said your friend took the picture and not you, could you ask them to contact OTRS to confirm that they are releasing the image under a free license (like cc-by-sa-4.0)? Because your friend would be the copyright holder, which requires permission. If they waive their rights to you, they still need to contact OTRS. (Sometimes I think this is just excessive bureaucracy...) pandakekok9 02:37, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

@JohnnybFTW: This is your report, right? You have triggered one of our abuse filters, one responsible for filtering out suspicious cross-wiki uploads. The resolution (number of pixels) of your photo is low enough (393x478) to trigger our filter, and is a JPG. Commonly, this is a copyright violation, and we had a lot of abuses like 3 years ago from the cross-wiki upload feature, so we decided to create this filter on that time. If this is really your own work, please upload it in full resolution with complete EXIF. Thanks, pandakekok9 07:50, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Page name: Micronations (Micronations links: histlogsabuse logen:Micronations)
  • Edit kind: I myself run a very productive micronation of over 1000 individuals that grows each day. We have an officially recognized crest and now a national flag. The flag has been entirely designed by members of Syleria and is not a piece of copyrighted material, (as is perhaps obvious based on its simplicity) I was simply trying to add our flag to the Wikipedia micronation page the same way other micronations have added theirs.
  • Comments: When attempting to post my flag, I am receiving an error that goes so far as to suggest that it is a form of abuse. Clearly this automated filter is neccesary elsewhere, but here, with such a simplistic flag design, I honestly dont understand how it could be flagging my image as abuse. I hope this is taken care of as i would be happy to add my nation to your listings. QueenofSyleria (talk) 19:49, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Filter 154 update

Please update Special:AbuseFilter/154 with the following changes:

  1. change gettyimages to getty OR add getty
  2. add dreamstime
  3. add depositphotos
  4. add shutterstock
  5. add istockphoto
  6. add 123rf

Reason for each change

  1. Many sites rename files so only Getty is in file name, this should catch some more
  2. unfree stock site, no images hosted there are compatible with licensing requirements here. unique name, so should not catch anything else
  3. same as 2
  4. same as 2
  5. same as 2
  6. same as 2

Should hopefully keep out some obvious copyvios from new users.--BevinKacon (talk) 20:57, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Report by: Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (talkcontribsblock logfilter log)
  • Page name: Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer links: histlogsabuse logen:Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer)
  • Edit kind: I was trying to change the coat of arms image and the motto. I am a member of the organisation which the page is about (Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer). Another editor, thinking no doubt that they were being helpful) has removed our coat of arms, and put instead the coat of arms of Papa Stronsay, the Island which is out Mother House. The coat of arms of the Island of Papa Stronsay, on which we have a Monastery, is not the same thing as the coat of arms of the organisation, the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer. This editor has done the same thing with the Motto. They have changed the Motto of the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer for that of the Island, Papa Stronsay. I was trying to upload the correct image of our coat of arms. I cannot now remember what the error message was. Something about not being able to determine if the image was suitable for WikiCommons.
  • Comments: I would love to be able to change this coat of arms image and motto, because as it stands, the info box on the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer page is incorrect, and thus defeating the purpose of Wikipedia to spread correct and truthful information. I would greatly appreciate it if you would adjust your automated system in this case so that I could fix this error. Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (talk) 20:45, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

The image you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller image, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you made the image yourself, please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata. If you did not make the image, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the image photographer / designer license it on their website or social media, or send the image and permission via OTRS. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:35, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

@JuliusCaesar16: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a png photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Such uploads of png photos are not allowed at all. You indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a png photo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but if you were not the original photographer, that person may need to send permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. Also, it will look fuzzy when scaled down, so you may want to upload a jpg version which will look sharper, too. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. • Edit kind: I am trying to upload images to an article I am making. I don't know why but the site is blocking all pictures I am trying to use. It has allowed 1 out of 10. All content is my original content and belongs to me. I am a photographer.
  • Comments: Not sure why the site keeps rejecting my pictures. Jtallmen (talk) 03:11, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
