In Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 in Finland cultural heritage sites around the country are photographed . It is also possible to participate in this year's competition by rephotographing historical photographs in their shooting locations. This year’s theme is sustainable cultural heritage. You can participate in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition with photographs depicting human-made spaces, landscapes or buildings, provided that they display a protected building or a cultural heritage site otherwise defined as valuable. You can find these sites in the map of the competition.

This year we focus on sustainable cultural heritage which is also the theme of the European Heritage Days 2022. Which building or landscape would you like to preserve for future generations? How has it sustained time? Do you miss a place that has already disappeared?

The Finnish competition is arranged by Wikimedia Finland in collaboration with European Heritage Days, Finnish Heritage Agency, Historical Museum of Riihimäki, Hyvinkää City Museum, Kerava museum services, Lapua City Museums, Nurmijärvi Museum, Tuusula Museum. The competition runs in Finland for the sixth time, with a goal to inspire everyone to see and appreciate the cultural heritage around us.

Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photo contest dedicated to collecting pictures of historical monuments and heritage sites to illustrate articles in the worldwide free Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects.

What? Cultural heritage sites from the registers of the Finnish Heritage Agency form the core of locations to shoot. The sites are in the in map. This year we are starting to bring in more buildings that are protected on the municipality level. In this year protected buildings of Riihimäki, Hyvinkää , Kerava, Lapua, Nurmijärvi and Tuusula were added.

When? 1.–30.9.2022.

Who? There are no country limitations, everybody can participate from any country.

How?

  • You can find the heritage sites from map.
  • You can upload your images via the upload form
  • Rephotographs can be shot with the Ajapaik mobile app, which shows the nearby old images. The old and the new images are uploaded with a form for rephotography.
