WikiProject BSicon is intended to co-ordinate the efforts of the Wikipedians maintaining the library of BSicons railway line icons (the abbreviation BS comes from the German word Bahnstrecke meaning railway line), and the organization of information about them. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Scope[edit]

All BSicon files and categories fall within the scope of this project.

Goals[edit]

Improve the SVG code of BSicons.
Form a consensus on BSicon names and implement it.
Upload useful but missing BSicons.
Centralize all RDT templates in Commons; integrate disparate variant features from each project (especially wp:ru, wp:no, and wp:de).
Continue and expand categorizing of icons in multi-tree categories; maintaining that categorization (including expansion of crowded categories)

Open tasks[edit]

Remove superfluous Inkscape and Illustrator SVG code from icon files.
- Any file with a size of 512 bytes or greater is a likely candidate.
Replace all instances of referencing BSicons via obsolete redirects across Wikipedias to use revised naming.
Creating a better User Page Template.
Update all diagram templates in Commons ({{BS-map}}, {{BS2}}, {{BS6}}, {{BS2-2}}, etc.)
- …synchronizing them from wp:en (urgent).
Design a Project BSicon Barnstar.
Adding the selective hide/show function of the Norwegian RDT template to {{Routemap}}.
Periodically check for BSicons uploaded locally at Wikipedias and transfer them to Commons (using CommonsHelper):

Review and assessment[edit]

From time to time new icons are uploaded that do not fit within the existing framework. This can be due to
- duplication of an existing or previously-deleted icon;
- incorrect geometry or poor SVG code;
- bad icon names (root-name and/or prefix and suffix);
- wrong or missing categorization.

All of these errors need to be fixed.
