User:Siebrand deleted this category on 19:58, 29 June 2007, for the reason: content was: '#REDIRECT Niš' (that is no reason). This deletion was contrary to Commons policy Commons:Deletion guidelines#Categories, so I request its undeletion.

Niš is also the correct name for the subject Niš. --Juiced lemon 20:33, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The category was relocated to Category:Nis. I have restored it, as it appears to be standard, judging by the articles and categories about "Niš" on English Wikipedia . / Fred J 21:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This category was deleted on 22 September 2006 for the reason content was: '{{badname|It is the same with Category:Okinawa prefecture}}' (and the only contributor was User:Alberth2).

This reason is deceitful, since Okinawa is a very notorious island, due to heavy human losses during the battle of Okinawa (Pacific War).

Category:Okinawa prefecture is an administrative division, that is a concept, and cannot be compared with a real thing like an island. Notice also that this category has a badname: the correct name is Okinawa Prefecture, according to custom English typography rules.

Therefore, this deletion was contrary to Commons policy regarding to categories with correct names. So, I request the undeletion of Category:Okinawa. --Juiced lemon 14:01, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Admin who delete the page[edit]

Dear Admin who delete the page of Hafar Al-Batin, this page was deleted because we changes the spelling, and the Hafar Al-Batin was redirected to Hafr Al-Batin as the latter one is the correct spelling. The correct spelling is the former one, this was discussed before and we agreed that Hafar Al-Batin is the most correct spelling, so i want from you to reopen this page again... thank you.. Undeleted. / Fred J 16:49, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that undeletion done is for the redirect page, which now redirects to a non-existing page. Page is deleted for being empty, and the only thing it says is "under construction". I advised user to recreate page/gallery once there are images for it. Deadstar (msg) 13:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Guillen 21:35, 15 October 2007 (UTC) This file was delete is a image created for my, same with the photoshop 7software. This image was deleted because it had incorrect licensing. You cannot claim copyright over a municipal flag, and so it has to be public domain or it is copyrighted by the municipality. We have no idea of what the license is right now. O2 () 22:58, 15 October 2007 (GMT)

I do not claim license. The municipality nor reserves such rights. It is a symbol officer who like most of them are in the public domain .Only Need Permission to replenish the file and a recommendation for the proper license to be kept. --Guillen 10:15, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This category was deleted on 20 April 2006 for the reason: content was: 'Category:Electronics' (and the only contributor was User:Red Rooster) Should be Electrical schematics.

This is a surprising reason, since “electronics” is not “electricity”, and a “circuit” is not a “schematic”. More, deletion of correct categories (Electronic circuit) is contrary to Commons policy.

Category:Electronic circuits is needed for classification, so I request its undeletion. --Juiced lemon 17:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File:K13-Aufkleber.jpg appears to have been deleted without warning the uploaders nor any discussion:

The history is currently not visible and I haven't been logged in here during last month to intervene earlier but it appears that someone must have deleted the GFDL license that I had gotten from the copyright holder Dieter Gieseking <giedie2@web.de> in January 2006. Please undelete the entire so that the matter can be settled more peacefully and reinstall the image.

Sincerely: Roman Czyborra 12:08, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image was first tagged with {{Bild-GFDL}} and later with {{Fair use}} which is why it was deleted speedily. The image has a source, and part of the description was: "Entwurf: Dieter Gieseking, 1993. Zeichnung: Dieter X., Rechte abgetreten an die K13" corresponding (apparently, my German is limited) with what Roman C. says about the permission. It seems to me that the image can be restored but the permission must first be sent to OTRS. Samulili 10:30, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This category was deleted on 17:31, 10 February 2007 for the following reason: (empty category - ReindDeel33t).

  1. “Empty” is NEVER a valid reason to delete a category.
  2. The deletion of categories with correct names is contrary to Commons deletion policy.
  3. This category is needed to classify UK-related files, as already done for other countries in subcategories of Category:Trains by country.

Therefore, I request the undeletion of Category:Trains of the United Kingdom. --Juiced lemon 22:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have undeleted it. There is a large effort currently underway to reorganise a lot of railway related things which I know you are participating in, so when this comes to rest, if this needs to be deleted again or whatever, we can. Note that right now, it has a soft redirect in it for a different category so please edit it as needed to correct that, ok? ++Lar: t/c 23:03, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just a quick note about this one, it's probably not actually correctly named, nor is it's replacement, Category:Rail transport in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom has two separate, self contained railway systems, the Great Britain system, with is standard gauge, and the Northern Ireland system, which together with the Republic of Ireland system, forms another, broad gauge system. In the past, Great Britain has tended to form one such category, covering the railways on mainland Britain, whilst Ireland has tended to form another such category, covering the railway on the island of Ireland. Nick 14:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the undeletion. We classify media files “by location” according to current political divisions. Such classification is subject-independent, so it leads to easy understandable structures.
Notice that most people in the world cannot distinguish between “British and English”, or “Britain, Great Britain and United Kingdom”. --Juiced lemon 22:30, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Baybayin_Wa.PNG[edit]

I don't understand why this image has been deleted. It's a different letter than Baybayin_Ta.PNG, and can't be a duplicate, as long as nobody changed the original image. Is it possible to undelete it? Thanks. Same request for the svg version, if one. Croquant 16:53, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's been deleted as a dupe of Image:Baybayin Ta.PNG. Maybe, you did a mistake when you reuploaded Image:Baybayin Wa.PNG in march 2006 since the size and SHA1 checksum of the Wa version is exactly the same as the Ta version and Google cache show me the Ta version as Baybayin_Wa.PNG. Should be undeleted. No SVG version found. — Xavier, 17:24, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took the picture, strange that there was something wrong with it. Time between note on my discussion page and deletion was too quick (happened other times, that's bad). Can you undelete it? Thanks --Biopresto 13:10, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion happened ten days after the note on your page, which says that the image will be deleted if not fixed in 7 days. I undeleted the image and corrected the license, however, please add a proper description and category. -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:34, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, now I remember better this file history: it was by User:Gamballs, and HE loaded the picture here (see file history). Why you warned me instead of him? Undeletion of BSicon_uexDOCKr.svg[edit]

This file has been deleted as it was deemed to be a copy of BSicon_exwhfKBFl.svg. However, it is used on a number of canal mapping pages, and is displayed on the Canal Template. These are now broken. The canal template cannot use exwhfKBF.svg, without creating a new row template, because the naming scheme is completely different. BSicon_uexDOCKr.svg has also been deleted from English Wikipedia because it was a duplicate of the one on Commons. Bob1960evens 20:42, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Closed. File reuploaded by Bob1960evens. As a side note, the request was well-founded since the images are not strictly identical, and since the name scheme is important. — Xavier, 15:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Si. Se prohíbe la reproducción total o parcial de los contenidos de esta Web sin citar su origen o solicitar autorización. User:Superzerocool escribió el 2007-03-25: "La fuente no indica que el uso de la imagen es libre o de dominio público. Image discussion was closed as delete: Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Anne marie carl nielsen brodersen.jpg. However, the uploader is the owner of the material, and he was the photographer. People state that owning the piece of art does not make him the copyright owner, but it certainly seems to me that if the piece of art is granted to him, he has the right to at very least make photographs of it (as museums do all the time). And, for that matter, it seems that, if anybody, he is easily the most likely to own the copyright on the piece of work, given that it was granted to him. Patstuart (talk) 17:35, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a big difference between material rights of ownership to an object in one's possession on the one hand and the immaterial rights, including copyright, associated with another person's idea on the other. Please don't get those confused.
The owner of a copy of a work of art may take photographs of it, but he may not publish or license them without the consent of the copyright holder of the original work. Museums have special contracts to be able to publish images of their collections where needed, but this usually wouldn't involve sublicensing. LX (talk, contribs) 18:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, copyright laws typically include special rules that explicitly allow museums to reproduce copyrighted artworks for exhibition catalogs. For commercializations (e.g., postcards and such), museums still would need special contracts with the rights holders on the artworks. Lupo 20:12, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And yet, if the artwork was given to him, what are the chances that he owns the artwork, and thus its copyright? It seems just as likely to me that a court would rule in favor of him having the copyright, as for his descendants. Patstuart (talk) 20:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The chances? None. There is no connection between owning an object and holding the copyright to the idea behind the object. One is governed by property law and the other by copyright law. If you buy a copy of a movie, you don't get the copyright, and the law makes no difference based on the number of copies of a work are in circulation or anything like that.
