The Wikimedians of the UAE User Group organizes the photographic competition “UAE in Lens” which seeks to promote the UAE culture through Wikimedia projects mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. This competition focuses on
three topics:
Touristic destinations, Monuments & Historic sites in the UAE
Everyone is welcome to participate in this competition! You are free to upload as many images as you want related to the topics mentioned above. You may use old photos as long as they were uploaded during the competition’s period. At the end of the competition, the judges will evaluate the photographs and select the top three photos. ALL THE BEST!
Competition Timeline
Duration: December 15 to February 15
Judging duration: 15 Feb – 15 Mar
Winners’ announcement: 16 Mar
Rules
We try to keep the competition as simple as possible for our participants. Please review and carefully read our rules:
All entries must be original photographs uploaded by their authors.
To be eligible, all photos must be uploaded between December 15 2023 to February 15, 2024.
All photos must be under a free license.
Participants must have a valid email address.
Photos uploaded should be about these topics: Touristic destinations, Monuments & Historic sites in the UAE, Emirati Artists (Artists, visual artists, actors/actresses, directors), and Arabic books published by Emirati writers
Captions and description must be included in the photo.
Make sure that that no visible watermarks are present.
All photos must be at least 2Mpx in size.
There are also some practical guidelines and advice:
Sign into your Wikimedia Commons’ account or create a new account -if you do not have one already-
Give your photos meaningful names.
Click “Find an Object” button above, or if you already know the identifier of the depicted site, you can upload the images by clicking here.
Do not forget to categorize your image, it will be useful to researching!
