Help with map[edit]

Hello. I have just uploaded an svg Map of Constantinople. Although it renders mostly OK, there is a problem with the text that is not written horizontally (see for instance the Hippodrome, the Theodosian/Constantinian Walls or the seaward gates). Can anyone correct it, or, even better, explain to me how to correct it? I'll admit right away that I'm a novice in vector graphics, this being my first serious work. Any input and advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance, Constantine 23:44, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see major problems in the 632px view; the text in general should probably be larger, since it's kind of hard to read unless the image is blown up to a large size... AnonMoos (talk) 02:11, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the map is supposed to be seen in full size, and although I'll try to use bigger text, it still will require to be seen in full size, since the map details are inherently small. However, do you really see no problem with say, the "Theodosian Walls" when in full view? Because I see the characters somehow unaligned. It is really noticeable in the sea gates, which (due to smaller font size) makes them almost unreadable. If you don't see it, I guess something in my browser must be at fault. SVG image scaling[edit]

Belle Isle

Why does the 73-pixel version of this image display correctly (left), but the 72-pixel version doesn't (right)? Franamax (talk) 19:39, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's on any size less than 73px and is being used at List of Champ Car circuits. CambridgeBayWeather Talk 10:07, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All I can suggest is try saving as "plain SVG"... AnonMoos (talk) 11:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[1] gives an error measage to that issue -- MichaelFrey (talk) 17:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Convert image[edit]

Hi, I would love for this image (Image:UniversalEditButton.png) to be converted from PNG to scalable SVG. At the moment, it only looks decent at 68px, but I have no idea how to do it. If someone could do it within the next day or so, that would be super awesome. The page the image is for is en:Universal edit button - this is a great idea and something we should support. Poke me on en:User talk:Fish and karate if you need any further info. Thanks. Fish and karate (talk) 07:31, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding text to svg images[edit]

There is a good railway map off Paris at: Base pour cartes ferroviaires en Île-de-France.svg

I would like to add place and station names. Only when I try to download the image from the browser (firefox) I get a limited png bitmap, wich doesnt have enough scale to add text. (The lines are only 2 bytes thick) I use fotoshop 4.0 as an editor but he doesnt accept svg images. Is there a way to get a bigger png bitmap or is there a free vector editor where I can add text to an svg image?

Greetings, MARC

The .png conversion for use within Wikimedia projects is shown on the image page Image:Base_pour_cartes_ferroviaires_en_Île-de-France.svg, but if you click on the link immediately below the image this will load the source .svg file, and you can save this for editing. If you know what you are doing you can edit this file with any text editor, but you are more likely to want to use Inkscape to add labels. Hope this helps. Trouble with SVG image[edit]

Hi, could anyone help me with this image: Image:Wiki syntax template info.svg - only the SVG version appears, the thumbnail and putting it on articles produces a link instead. Tohd8BohaithuGh1 (talk) 00:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Text hanfling is quite broken in the MediaWiki renderer. I'd recommend converting the texts to paths and then reuploading on top of the old verison. /Lokal_Profil 14:08, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I greatly simplified the file, and then tried to select some of the fonts seen in Image:Meta SVG fonts.svg, but it really isn't working... AnonMoos (talk) 15:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! It is now working. Tohd8BohaithuGh1 (talk) 22:50, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, that's mysterious -- when I uploaded my last version, it then looked like it had rendered the same as the previous ones... AnonMoos (talk) 14:29, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
