Japanese fonts for SVG graphics

It's a question on File:Dengue fever symptoms with Japanese labels.svg. I noticed that the fonts don't appear as in Inkspace on my computer after uploading the file to Commons. The captions were written in Japanese and after uploading, Chinese characters were substituted by some Chinese fonts and they look funky to me. (Japanese and Chinese write Chinese characters in slightly different ways.) I was told that the reason was because Commons don't have the font that I used (MS P Gothic). I converted the text into paths in Inkspace, but this is not always convenient when I need to change the text.

So I guess the solution is to let the system have the font (it's from Microsoft) or I use a font that the system already has. And my question is, for the latter, what font I should choose in my local computer. Thanks.

SVG font rendering on Commons has had a lot of detail problems, which seem to be constantly changing with minor software upgrades. If it's impossible to reliably keep File:Simple inverse relationship chart.svg looking good without converting texts to paths, then there may not be much hope for more complex graphics. However, the answer to the Chinese vs. Japanese glyph variant problem is presumably to find a font that's already installed on Commons servers (listing at meta:SVG fonts seems out-of-date, not sure where to find a current one) and intended for Japanese text, and specify that particular font in the SVG file... Thanks. I downloaded to my PC "VL PGothic", which was listed in meta:SVG fonts, but it didn't work. The server replaced the fonts with the Chinese fonts again. I'll ask in Commons:井戸端. --Bugandhoney (talk) 20:17, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

svg/png substitution?

Hi all, I want to update this chart - File:Leo Minor IAU.svg - into this one - File:Leo Minor IAUflamsteed.png, except keeping the name and formatting as the first name. I am not good on .svg and .png conversions....is this a straightforward fix? The rationale is this page on en wiki, the constellation infobox of which only accepts a particular filename and I need the latter map inserted....cheers, Casliber (talk) 19:47, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Which tag?

There is an image that needs to be cropped. It does not have a border, and is not tilted in any multiple of 90. Which tag should be put on it so it can be fixed without losing its compression/EXIF data? Thundersnow (talk) 13:34, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
