HUGE png previews

I've noticed that the png previews can be much bigger than the png files themselves, e.g.: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WWII.png preview: 125kb, original file: 14kb! Can't someone make a system that picks the one with the smallest size, either the preview or the original

Congratulations, you've discovered how poor Wikimedia PNG image downsizing can sometimes be. I'll bring this example up as part of the discussion now at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard, but currently the only way to always avoid this is for your image to be no more than 800 pixels wide, and no more than 600 pixels tall... JPG images for discussion

Suppose I have two JPG images for discussion right here, but I have not uploaded them yet. Is there a place to upload them without making them almost immortal? Beyond that, how should I name them, and perhaps have a category for them? Davidt8 (talk) 16:00, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Davidt8

Arial like font

Hi, I'm editing an svg file using the arial font. I'd like to replace one supported by the commons svg engine to be able to control the final look better in inskcape. Which font resembles arial the most? Not only looks but also size because a lot of the supported fonts look stretched horizontally. Richardprins (talk) 19:23, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the pointer. Helvetica is included that list and I would recommend to switch from Arial to Helvetica then as both fonts share the same metrics. (Arial was historically designed as a replacement of Helvetica to avoid licensement costs.) --AFBorchert (talk) 16:17, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
