Can someone say where is the "official" source for this files!? Which is the right Wyvern? It looks for me, like a personel unofficial painting. I mean we can't declare a regional flag representation without a official source. What is to do in such case? Only {{References missing}}?91.42.193.70 03:14, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

The svg version came from http://nautika.mine.nu/Flag_of_Wessex.svg as a derivative of File:Flag of Wessex.png in turn by user:Thomas Gun who claims pre 20th century. This was a w:WP:FFU request. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:00, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Why are SVG's ever recommended?

• The benefits of SVG appear to be that if you wanted to blow a PNG image up to the size of a billboard that you'd be unable to do so and in theory (but not practice) that its technically superior. The other advantage - that its easier to create multiple versions at different resolutions is basically solved by getting users to upload a high resolution PNG and then resizing that. The disadvantages are that they don't render natively at all in the browser used by half the audience, support in other browsers is also incomplete, that they are also far harder to edit and that the PNG conversion code is poor and doesn't work properly - that that helps "compatibility" is a lame excuse. If I create a PNG it displays perfectly in every browser after IE 7 and as long as it doesn't have transparency it displays perfectly in IE 6 too. Additionally if I created the image in Inkscape or Omnigraffle rather than writing the code by hand there isn't anything I can do about that incompatibility even if I wanted to. Can some one take a look at File:Cèze04.jpg- it is displaying horizontal- but upload it to local machine and it displays with correct rotation -90. Is this a WP rendering problem or should I just get more sleep? --ClemRutter (talk) 08:19, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

It's an interaction of several things -- the image data is stored in horizontal directional order, but the image also has a flag indicating that it should be rotated on display to compensate; however, Wikimedia software ignores the flag. SVG Variables

Hi, I'm a little new at using SVGs in a dynamic way. I have an image that has different data on different layers that can be used to show a step by step solution to a problem, to avoid having to create multiple versions of the same image. Ideally I would want to insert the same image in a wikibook passing a parameter to show different layers: [[file:myimage.svg|layer1=show]][[file:myimage.svg|layer2=show]] Is this possible? Problem with embedded map in svg

File:Vandalic War campaign map.svg works fine on my PC and when I extract an image, it produces no distortion, but the uploaded version seems to compress the embedded background map (it should look like in the png version. Can anyone help me solve this? Constantine ✍ 20:34, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

I have looked at the problem but I have not been able to solve it. I ran the file trough a SVG Check (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Check) and apart from other font warnings, it gave this warning: Line 808: *Warning* It appears you have a trailing space in one of your attributes. With certain attributes, this can cause a rendering problem. I don't have the time to go into it any further. My advise: remove the page border, and the page shadow. And before uploading other versions of your file use first to check: test.svg on this site. Citypeek (talk) 17:11, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

The reason that the map compresses is that you have put the svg-file outside the box. In other words, your x-coordinatie is negative. See this file on photobucket: [1]. First you must select all, rescale proportionally and put it into the box (the set pagewidth and pageheight). That should do the trick.
