- Info A monkey that used to be endemic to West Africa, though it made its way to the West Indies on slave ships. This youngster has a slight squint. All by Charlesjsharp -- Charles (talk) 22:01, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

- Comment - I think if you darkened the bokeh somewhat, it would really help the monkey's face pop out for the viewer. Right now, I find the lack of contrast a problem. I know there's a kind of purism among FPC regulars about not changing the colors of bokeh at will, and I really don't understand it, because since bokeh isn't actually what a viewer would see if viewing this scene in person, anyway, why is altering it at will something deplorably dishonest? Sure, if it were a less blurred bokeh, that would be a different story, but given what you have to work with, why not darken it? -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:32, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek: I was bored, so I tried what you suggested: File:Green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus) juvenile head processing experiment.jpg and I agree it would help the image a lot. This is not super accurate masking and working from a limited 8-bit jpg, I would like it better if Charles does it with his source files or provides the RAW. – Lucas T 20:00, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- I agree. Much more pleasant and restful to look at. I feel a bit of eye strain looking at the current version of this photo. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:03, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

- Weak oppose per above discussion, I feel the contrast to the background is not enough
and the eye reflections distracting. I would volunteer to fix the BG (like this) with the source file to get best possible quality. The raw file could be uploaded here: [1] – Lucas T 20:18, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Comment - I don't think I agree with getting rid of eye reflections. Those are natural and expected. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:03, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I was experimenting a bit with those on how well I could make them disappear. ;) – Lucas T 21:18, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Interesting ideas on artificially altering the background, but not for my images. Sorry. I'm not a total purist, but we all draw our own lines in the sand. The colours you have created just don't occur in the forest. Charles (talk) 22:20, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- But other darker colors do. I'm going to weakly Oppose a feature on the basis of a lack of pleasant contrast between the monkey's face and the background. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:31, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- The neutral background draws attention to the bright eyes. The alternatives proposed negated that effect. Charles (talk) 14:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- I respect your reasoning. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:53, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
