- Support - Mesmerizing and fascinating - among other things, this shows how people, vehicles and animals shared the road before there were traffic regulations, in days when motorized vehicles were slow. I can resolve the question of where this is. The trip ends at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. When they focus on the sign, we see "Erected 1898" (though it actually looks more like "1896"), but we can't see the rest of the sign because of deterioration to the movie's print. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:14, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

- Support Per Ikan; at first it was just the cinéma pur aspect that fascinated me but as I kept watching what I found most striking was the glimpse of a major street in a big city of its time at a time before automobiles had established dominion over the street. The diversity of modes of transportation is amazing ... we see other cable cars, early automobiles (but still exhibiting license plates, so not too early), horse-drawn carts, horsecars, a few unyoked horses with riders, and pedestrians freely jaywalking across all this despite what is to our eyes a safety nightmare with absolutely no forerunners of modern traffic control devices visible (I like the guy near the very end who (spoiler alert) looks up just before he seems like he would otherwise have been run over by the cable car and stops, with his face betraying little if any sign that there was something unusual about this). Comment - From what I understand, they didn't even have the concept of "jaywalking" in those days. "Jaywalking" was a term that started to get employed later by people who were trying to shift the onus on crashes into pedestrians onto the pedestrians and combat attempts to set speed limits to lower-than-dangerous speeds. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:52, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
