Discussion

My goal with a bot flag is to avoid flooding of my edits in recent changes. My plan next time, there are more than a millions of images that I'll adding categories from the uploaded results of Judgefloro (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) and other users. I'm sorry if my english is poorly. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 20:34, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think Structured Data is better place for that and some bots already works on this task. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:08, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, there have been other bots working on structured data and that's a good job, but I'm still hoping of my bot status is approved to avoid flooding of my edits in recent changes. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 09:15, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any consensus that categorization on camera model or photographer name is desired at large scale? I'd agree that Structured Data is better place for that. --Krd 09:27, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen the consensus about adding it's categories, but I don't think it's a mistake to make a category either. If this bot application is rejected I'm also fine, I just have the courage to submit it. But, because I've submitted it, of course I still hoping for the approval. Thank you. I'm trying to understand the intention, i.e. what the benefit for the Commons contributor or Commons user could be. Can you elaborate on that? --Krd 10:49, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The benefit's all the photos contributed by Judgefloro and Ramon FVelasquez:
  1. Those taken with the Nikon Coolpix AW100 and Sony DSC T-200 cameras can be categorized so it's easier to find photos taken with this cameras.
  2. All photos contributed by this user can be easily searched and used if needed.
  3. It's easier to explore a virtual trip to the Philippines through the photos contributed by them.
  4. I don't think all users can use the structured data for categorizing existing photos.
  5. Many of the photos has categorized, I think it would be great if all of them.

The uploads of a user can already be found via Special:ListFiles. What is the real life scenario for finding images by the camera model they are taken with? Is your intention to categorize all existing images by camera, which would mean to edit nearly every existing file? If yes, I think there is a broader discussion required than this bot request. --Krd 11:15, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My main focus is only for the photos uploaded by Judgefloro and Ramon FVelasquez. If there are additional categories for photos uploaded by other users, that's just a little and I will not do it massively. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 02:27, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
These type of metadata should be added to structured data and not in categories. Whereas we are just starting to populate structured data, there are now 23 Million files with a structured data component that identifies how it was made (i.e. the camera). With structured data the picture would get mapped to a specific wikidata item and it would be possible to not only find user uploads by camera model, but also by camera producer etc. Finding this information in categories would require multiple categories. So I think the general approach is not the right one.
On the other hand, we have quite powerful tools already that leverage the structured data. So you can get for example a image view of the first 1'000 images uploaded by Judgefloro here:
https://wcqs-beta.wmflabs.org/#%23defaultView%3AImageGrid%0ASELECT%20%3Ffile%20%3Fcoordinates%20%3Fimage%20%3FcameraName%20WITH%20%7B%0A%20SELECT%20%3Ffile%20%3Fcoordinates%20%3Fimage%20%3Fcamera%20WHERE%20%7B%0A%20%20%3Ffile%20%28p%3AP170%2Fpq%3AP4174%29%20%22Judgefloro%22%3B%0A%20%20%20%20wdt%3AP1259%20%3Fcoordinates%3B%0A%20%20%20%20schema%3AcontentUrl%20%3Furl.%0A%20%20BIND%28IRI%28CONCAT%28%22http%3A%2F%2Fcommons.wikimedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpecial%3AFilePath%2F%22%2C%20wikibase%3AdecodeUri%28SUBSTR%28STR%28%3Furl%29%2C%2053%20%29%29%29%29%20AS%20%3Fimage%29%0A%20%20%3Ffile%20wdt%3AP4082%20%3Fcamera%0A%7D%20%0A%7D%20AS%20%25values%20%0AWHERE%20%7B%0A%20%20INCLUDE%20%25values%20.%0A%20%20service%20%3Chttps%3A%2F%2Fquery.wikidata.org%2Fsparql%3E%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20OPTIONAL%20%7B%3Fcamera%20rdfs%3Alabel%20%3FcameraName%20FILTER%20%28lang%28%3FcameraName%29%20%3D%20%27en%27%29%20%7D%20.%0A%20%20%7D%0A%7D%20LIMIT%201000
You can toggle the result view to a map layout to see that most were taken in the Philippines. So finding fotos taken with Nikon Coolpix AW100 and Sony DSC T-200 cameras from any user is just a simple query in structured data. Everyone can add structured data to files. It's however cumbersome to do so and thus, these are currently mainly added by bots. My bot is active in this field. I'm happy to work with you so all your pictures have a structured data captured with (P4082) property that you need to easily identify the camera model. Based on the query above, most of them have this already. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:59, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I like this hint. I'll explore it to be more. Thank you. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 12:24, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Wagino 20100516: Please provide an update. --Krd 07:39, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still hoping to get flag for my bot. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 10:24, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You said you'd explore above hints, please report your conclusion. --Krd 10:41, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In 2021, I changed my job position on my real live and it requires me to spend more time so that my contribution has decreased greatly in all Wikimedia projects so I have not been able to carry out such exploration. In the next few months I will learn to manage my time again to be able to actively contribute to these projects. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 10:02, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Wagino 20100516: Does this mean this request should be archived as withdrawn for the moment and reactivated later? --Krd 08:19, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please. Wagino 20100516 (talk) 01:21, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
