Discussion

@Krd: I have do some test edits. Please check if they are OK. Thank you. --Kanashimi (talk) 08:07, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks OK for me, but will be also good idia to replace Panoramio_upload_bot with Panoramio upload bot. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:54, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Surely I will do. --Kanashimi (talk) 15:25, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zhuyifei1999: I exclude only bot edits and /Panoramio|Unidentified|Taken with/i now (see the source for detail). Are there any list of maintenance categories? --Kanashimi (talk) 15:25, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Categories marked with __HIDDENCAT__ are almost always maintenance / user categories. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:34, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed Thank you. I will exclude categories marked with __HIDDENCAT__. --Kanashimi (talk) 15:39, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Convert category tags to templates?

@Kanashimi, Krd, and Shizhao: Files are categorized to these maintenance categories through a simple category tag e.g.
[[Category:Photos from Panoramio needing categories as of 2017-07-15]]
If we convert the category tags to the standard template {{Uncategorized}} (the template can be a bit adapted by new parameters), categorization tools as Hot-Cat and Cat-a-lot can manage them immediately when the image is categorized and the needless delay of the maintenance tag can be avoided. Is it possible to transform the maintenance-category tags by a bot? And Panoramio upload bot can be also changed to use the template tag instead the direct category tag. --ŠJů (talk) 19:49, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is OK to do the things. --Kanashimi (talk) 09:51, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly I cannot follow. Can you please elaborate in different words? Thank you. --Krd 07:14, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your attention on this task. I can convert the category tags to the standard template {{Uncategorized}}, but since more than one week passed and no one reply to the idea, I don't know if this part have reached a consensus. Maybe I should just clean the categories. --Kanashimi (talk) 09:30, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The feedback to this request is very limited sadly, so I'd suggest to bring the topic to more community attention, although I have no idea what the best place could be. I'd wish to see some opinion from users who regularly work on uncategorized files. --Krd 06:58, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How about focus on the Panoramio categories and skip the {{Uncategorized}} part? Since it's necessary to fix the problems of Panoramio categories and the code is feasible, I think it is fine to start the process even skip the {{Uncategorized}} part. --Kanashimi (talk) 08:19, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kanashimi and Krd: I supposed, the transformation of "needing categories" category tags to the {{Uncategorized}} is not so complicated nor controversial to cause such a delay or hesitation. If there is some problem with it, of course the original task can be done without this action. My idea was that to merge the two tasks is efficient.

  • {{Uncategorized}} is standardly used in format {{Uncategorized|year=2015|month=June|day=4}} and the template generates a category tag [[Category:Media needing categories as of 4 June 2015]].
  • standard Panoramio maintenance categorization tags looks like: [[Category:Photos from Panoramio needing categories as of 2017-07-07]] [[Category:Photos from Panoramio ID 1671519 needing categories]]. The couple of category tags can be transformed to {{Uncategorized|year=2017|month=July|day=7|PanoramioID=1671519}} and the template itself can be changed to enable work with the new parameter and to give correct outputs (e.g. the two specific Panoramio category tags).

I think, there is no risk in such a simple transformation. The first task (to identify properly categorized images automatically) is very more difficult and problematic. --ŠJů (talk) 22:12, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Again, it is possible to implement the functions. And I also want to help other bot requests. --Kanashimi (talk) 22:49, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As there is no objection, I close this as approved. --Krd 08:50, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
