Move to Category:Media[edit]
- propose to make it a subcat of media as it concerns paper published media, which is only a small part of the media cat. (even parant cat of this cat and media do not match) --Foroa (talk) 18:28, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't like the name, but it is not a goof idea to merge them. --Foroa (talk) 08:25, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose It should exist a category of periodical printed media. --ŠJů (talk) 22:51, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Move to Category:Images from journals[edit]
follow Category talk:Scientific journals#Explanation of move request. --Snek01 (talk) 22:06, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose move of Category:Serials, periodicals and journals to Category:Images from journals. The first name means a category for all content related to periodical publications, the second name means only images extracted from one type of periodicals. It's quite different specifying. "Images from journals" should remain a subcategory of the category "Journals". --ŠJů (talk) 09:34, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Support By the way, it does not matter if Category:Serials, periodicals and journals will redirect either to Category:Journals or to Category:Images from journals. The principle is to eliminate and reduce this category at all and to redirect users to such category tree, that will be user friendly. --Snek01 (talk) 15:55, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Move to Category:Periodicals[edit]
- Support move of Category:Serials, periodicals and journals to Category:Periodicals or Category:Periodical publications because serials and journals are also periodicals and the category name should be as brief as possible. --ŠJů (talk) 09:34, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Support --Foroa (talk) 09:52, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose The principle of moving this category is to 1) have much more simple name of the category and 2) Have much more simple categorization tree. Moving to the Category:Periodicals meet only the first criterium, but it will not simplify categorization tree if you will replace one category with a new another one. When Category:Serials, periodicals and journals would be moved to Category: Periodicals then categorization tree would appear like this:
- Category:Publications
- Category:Periodicals
- Category:Periodicals by country as proposed by ŠJů
- Category:Periodicals by topic as proposed by ŠJů. These two categories would require also to include all seven categories started Newspapers by .... That would not be practical.
- Category:Journals
- Category:Periodicals
It is structure with 4-5 levels.(!) Although is WOULD be move forward, it is still not good. We do not need to create every category that are theoretically possible to create.
Much more simplified structures with 3 levels is like this:
- Category:Publications
- Category:Journals (This expect, that Category:Magazines will be still exist. Then only scientific journals would remain in the Category:Journals.)
- Category:Magazines
And the most simplified structure would be like this:
- Category:Publications
- Category:Journals (including all subcategories of the Category:Magazines)
- Category:Images from journals
- Category:Journals by country
- Category:Journals by century
- Category:Journals by decade
- Category:Journals by topic (Journals by topic and Journals by subject and Journals by interest are the same)
- Category:Journals by year
- Category:Journals (including all subcategories of the Category:Magazines)
In all cases there is always possible to not use the word "scientific" in names of categories. It is because 1) when the category by topic exist, the reader will choose only his/her scientific preferences and will not choose for example fashion. and 2) if Category:Magazines will remain, then all remaining journals will be scientific and so no special subcategory is needed. --Snek01 (talk) 15:55, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Support Actually, Journals are now on the same level as Magazines and Newspapers, so it is 3-4 levels. The problem with dispensing with Periodicals is that there are already 18 categories under Publications; with Magazines and Newspapers it becomes 20. That's rather too much, in my opinion. With Publications, we can have Journals and Scientific journals in different categories. --Jonund (talk) 21:20, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
