The Rudranath temple is a mountain side Shiva temple and one of the Panch Kedar (five Kedars) pilgrimage route site. The sanctum, cave-like walls and the Shiva iconography here is svayambhu-style (monolithic). To this the front wall which is difficult to date. The temple is old, as it is mentioned in pre-6th century Hindu Sanskrit texts. In front of the Rudranath temple, along the mountain side, are five small Hindu temples which regional legends associate with the Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata.

The Rudranath temple is accessible by a hiker's trail that is scenic and full of wildflowers that bloom throughout the summer. The temple closes in winter, and during these months the primary Shiva icon is moved to the Gopinath temple in Gopeshwar. In spring, the icon returns to the Rudranath temple.
