האמת רוב ההרגשה באה מההאשמות של יוני. בכל מקרה אני מקווה שתשפוט אותי בתור עוד משתמש ולא לפי מה שקורה בויקיפדיה העברית. בכל מקרה, זה אכן נשמע אבסורד ואני בדיוק כמוך לא מתלהב מזה שהם נמצאות תחת זכויות יוצרים אבל לפי דעתי (ואישרתי אותה עם מפעיל פה) מכיוון שזו עבודת אמנות תמונה שלה פה לא יכולה להיות חופשית (גם אם היא יכולה להיות שימוש הוגן אין לה מקום בויקישיתוף כי רק תמונות חופשיות מקומן פה). אני גם ממש לא מחבב את החוקים האלה כי חסרות לי הרבה תמונות לכל מיני ערכים בגללם.
הגעתי למסקנה שהתמונה היא ממוזיאון הווקס בלונדון לפי הלינק למקור.

You can't rename a file. If you would like, you can upload it again under a new name (like the type of dog.jpg) and then add the {{badname}} template to the old picture so an admin deletes it. Maybe the instructions on pt need an update. :) Yonatanh 00:21, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

There have been only about 20 seconds (!) between upload and the messages on my talk page. I only needed to take a short research for the correct URL to add on the image-page. Give me a link to these pics and I'll try to help you out. The thing is the English wikipedia might be using fair use pictures and the spanish wikipedia doesn't accept those. If that's the case then you're out of luck, however if the pictures are free pictures on en then I'll just upload them here. Ok, i think i have one last idea, and a question. Do licenses for commons always have to be "for any purpose"? I ask this becouse the website http://www.punk77co.uk lets you use their pictures "as long as you awcknowledge the source", wich is them. If that is enough, wich license should i use then? Thanks! It's okay to use that website (if they indeed say that somewhere on there - I couldn't find it). You would have to use the license on the image. You'd also have to make sure the website's owner owns the rights to any photograph you decide to add as I saw that he doesn't own the copyrights to many of those images. Hey, I didn't delete the picture myself as I'm not an administrator but an administrator did. The thing is that not every picture that's acceptable on the English Wikipedia is acceptable here, only free pictures are acceptable here on commons. This means that pictures being used under "fair use" such as the one you uploaded cannot be uploaded to commons but may under certain circumstances be used on the English Wikipedia.Thanks, Yonatanh 11:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

RTL Arabic/Hebrew

Hey,

All content on Special pages (and menus etc) is derived from MediaWiki: namespace pages (called messages). The way to find the relevant messages is this: go to special:allmessages. Search on the page (ctrl+F) for the English message. Even if the message is a redlink, like MediaWiki:Createaccount, go and check MediaWiki:Createaccount/he (that's what happens when you have uselang=XX - it pulls out the /XX message).

This is how messages are prioritied: if the /XX version exists, use it. If not, pull the default (=English) version. If it doesn't exist, try pulling from the defined MessagesXX.php file. Those are the defaults for that language.

OK, so for this example, Createaccount/he didn't exist, neither did English default, so it's pulling the Messageshe.php default. Compare commons to HEwp. Clearly some sitewide setting at HEwp tells it div=RTL. Since Commons default lang is LTR, it doesn't do this. It seems using uselang=he is not enough; so probably we have to put in things like <span dir="rtl"> around the messages.

I will check with the developers about this, I'm not totally clear.

Anyway if you have HE lang settings, where you see English messages on menu/special pages - you can do translations for these. Find the English message as I described above, and post the translation on the talk page of the /he message. Then post on the administrator's board, give links to all the talk pages, and ask an admin to transfer the messages to the /he page proper. See also Commons:Help page maintenance. Reverting my addition of OTRS template

I was trying to get through the permission queue too quickly, and hadn't read the email carefully enough. The email granted permission for Wikipedia to use the image, but didn't specify a free license. Incidentally, I think that our en:Wikipedia:Boilerplate requests for permission should be a little less like boilerplate. We get a lot of "Yes, Wikipedia can use this image." responses from copyright holders who clearly didn't read the actual message and don't realise that they need to pick a free license. In my opinion this picture is PD regarding the age of the coin. This coin (minted 1336 Islamic calendar, i.e. 1918 Gregorian calendar) bring my grandfather after his trip to Libya and Egypt in 1920.

I am convinced copyright of Turkish money in this case is not adapted.

Hi there; about that imagem, although is not EXACTLY the same, it would be better to delete the PNG version. Because no one knows from where it came from, and if it is really in public domain by the death of the author or by his consent. Hi. I'm one of the Flickr reviewers, and I'd like to ask you something. If the image is from flickr and tagged as {{Self}} what do I do? And another one, I don't think it is ok to keep such images Image:White tigers drinking.jpg , user had changed the licence, so he had motives to do so. it is for the WMF project. creative common license. re: deletion due to OTRS request

User:Doc glasgow requested I delete Image:Mccartneys.jpg due to an OTRS complaint by the copyright holder. I did so but I'm not sure about this. From what I can see, it seems that the photographer decided to revoke the permission he gave ({{Attribution}} and then {{Copyrighted free use provided that}}) due to some content dispute on en. Re: SVG/PNGs, I don't think you were active at Commons when we had major kerfuffles due to this exact issue. You really would hope all our admins are sensible people, but sometimes they're not. Don't underestimate the ability of local projects to feel that Commons is imposing its will on their project by actions such as image replacement. Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted, and thanks also for the tips on uploading. I assume I'm putting the provenance information (crop date and external link to original) in an acceptable place; it seemed these would probably help if the rights were challenged. Also, the external link is good for getting the camera info, which isn't included in the cropped images. Dan Hoey 16:29, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

That has no info because it's a cropped version of an original; I've been putting a textual description with the external link. I was just making sure it's okay to put stuff before the {{Flickr}} as on Image:Bill Gosper 2006.jpg. Am I supposed to put the ==Summary== header in? I'm sure I'll get this stuff right eventually, but I'd rather not goof it up in a way that requires admin work to repair.

Also, when I use the {{Flickr}} template, do I put myself in as the reviewer or leave it blank? -- Dan Hoey 16:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

This was not scanned from a book. It was scanned from my personal files that my grandfather drew. My grandfather was the artist of the series. The copyright has long since expired since he died in 1958. King features once owned the copyright. If anyone owns the copyright, it would be my father. Cascading protection

Could you please turn off cascading protection from the Hebrew Main Page? It's stopping people from editing the POTD. The same was done to the English one a while ago because of some bug. Personally I think the whole feature is evil. --Para 12:06, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
