Corrected my error using Werdnabot

[edit]

Hi Yonatanh; I inadvertently told Wernabot to archive my talk page onto your archive. I used your invocation of Wernabot as a template, but didn't change all the occurrances of your username to mine. I apologize. It should be fixed now.[1] Wsiegmund 17:03, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, okay. ;) Yonatan talk 06:50, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for not taking it amiss. Best wishes, Wsiegmund

Inappropriate usernames

[edit]

If you're going to take care of requests on my talk page, please do so properly: notify the user. If you look at their uploads, you will see this is not a vandal account. Please write a note on their talk page telling them that if they wish to continue contributing, they should request a username change to something more appropriate or start a new account. (and they can contact you by email or by editing their talk page.) --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 02:15, 25 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

thanks for your attention to my fault. However, how to change the wrong file name to a correct one? the only way to do is delete the files?--Matthaeus 16:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

[edit]

Feel like getting a bot flag - I'll happily support it. Keeps RC nice and clean so that I can see what is happening <g>. No big issue tho - cheers --Herby talk thyme 17:16, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not an issue with me at all (I run AWB on a bot account on Books), more a heads up. I watch RC so the cleaner it is the better - I can live with it however you do it but flagging it would be good - regards --Herby talk thyme 17:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can't see any reason why. Legit user, admin etc - guess you may need to answer some techy questions maybe but the last couple passed thro easily --Herby talk thyme 17:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot bug

[edit]

Hello, your bot is adding {{Personality rights}} tags to images that are in Category:Steve Jurvetson, but that do not depict humans at all, such as Image:Ant head closeup.jpg, Image:Aquila spinogaster (African Hawk Eagle).jpg, etc. Please have your bot revert that. Sandstein 18:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. While it's at it, could the bot maybe also rename all images in Category:Steve Jurvetson to Category:Images by Steve Jurvetson or similar, to prevent future errors? Or should I do this with AWB? (What is the policy about author categories, anyway?) Sandstein 19:24, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe this should be on the template talk page, but is there a way for the {{Personality rights}} template message's reference to the w:Personality_rights article to be a little more prominent? At least in boldface, and possibly as a title for the box. When I looked for explanations, the link that was most noticeable was to Commons:General_disclaimer, which offered no assistance on what the problem might be. --Dan Hoey 22:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better, but I like it even better with a title, so I was Bold. Ok? As to where I noticed it, I've been checking my contributions now and then to see if they were flickrreviewed, so when I noticed they were edited, I checked. --Dan Hoey 00:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion request for all currencies

[edit]

I am very curious why are all currencies beaing tagged with a deletion request? the preceding unsigned comment is by Timur lenk (talk • contribs) I don't think so.

  • Uploading a photo of a coin is not a copyright violation. It's like making a photo of a statue or a sculpture.
  • There are lots of banknotes that are designed more than 70 years.
  • There are lots of banknotes issued by now not existing banks.

Please revise your bots action. Timur lenk 23:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Second! Please stop your bot! You are only producing incomplete deletion request for no good reason. --ALE! ¿…? 10:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I blocked your bot for three days. Please do not mass tag images in money categories. There are also free images. Like charts created by Commons useres, etc. --ALE! ¿…? 11:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Restriction tag

[edit]

hi yonatanh, you (or your bot) added a Restriction tag on http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Image:Marla_Glen_0309130720.jpg&curid=1711004&diff=4926378&oldid=4514860. Marla Glen is a public well known artist/musician/singer. the photo was taken at a public event. so far it's a person of public interest and allowed to publish (at least in germany). I'm interested if the Restriction Tag is warrantable. could you please check this? hope I expressed the issue correct. thanks. best wishes. --Nomo 14:32, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The same applies to Image:GuntherVonHagens Cologne2000.jpg and Image:Genscher 09080002.jpg. -- Túrelio 12:34, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! The above mentioned image has been superseded by Image:Fennoscandia.png, thus it can be erased. Image:Baltic_sea_map.jpg was, however, copied from de.wiki --Rutja76 13:03, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks, even if it was copied from de.wiki, you still need a source. Yonatan talk 13:05, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The source, as mentioned and linked in the comment of the picture, is de.wiki. However, since then the original image in de.wiki has been changed and uploaded to commons --Rutja76 13:19, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let me explain better, you need to give credit to whomever created it originally on de.wiki, or if it wasn't a de.wiki user, you need to give a rationale for why it's released under the GFDL or get a permission and send it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Yonatan talk 14:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this image may need to be deleted again. I reuploaded it since I was told it was deleted in some confusion when someone uploaded over it on en.wiki, but I just saw the logs for the page which said it was deleted as a copyvio of Getty Images. The source lists it as CC, but I suppose the source may not have been the copyright holder or something. Would you mind letting me know either way? ShadowHalo 19:02, 28 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Image:Baltic sea map.jpg

[edit]

Hi. I loaded Image:Baltic sea map.jpg from the german Wikipédia more than two years ago, but now it does not exist there anymore, having been replaced by the image in Commons. Note that the image is identical to Image:Fennoscandia.png. I wonder how you can imagine that someone might claim copyrights on such kind of images... Anyway, I cannot tell you today where the german Wikipedia copied it from. Thanks, Mschlindwein 23:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Image Tagging Image:Hoover-JEdgar-LOC.jpg

[edit]

The copyright didn't expire; the image rights were released into the PD and donated to the LOC. Furthermore, according to the rights and restrictions: "Per the deed of gift, the U.S. News & World Report, Inc., dedicated to the public all rights it held for the photographs in this collection upon its donation to the Library. The majority of the photographs in this collection were done for hire by U.S. News & World Report staff photographers, primarily Warren K. Leffler, Thomas J. O'Halloran, Marion S. Trikosko, John Bledsoe, and Chick Harrity identified on photographic captions by their initials --WKL, TOH, MST, JTB, and CWH. There are no known restrictions on their photographs". That applies to this image. --Tom (talk - email) 12:16, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was wondering whether you knew who the author of the picture was and whether he died before 1954. Thanks, Yonatan talk 04:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately book didn't mention authors of photos at all. I think only archive investigations could help - may be same images with credits were published in newspapers/magazines/etc. Sorry, I can't help with this problem. --EugeneZelenko 13:52, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure i understand. Timur lenk says above that Uploading a photo of a coin is not a copyright violation. It's like making a photo of a statue or a sculpture. Isn't that what I did? Themcman1 15:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I also found this in the first steps section Pictures taken by you are a little bit more problematic, as every person displayed has to agree on publishing it. This doesn’t apply if the photograph has been taken at public events or the persons are well-known—provided the photograph hasn’t been taken in that person’s private vicinity. I took the picture at a public event. (Sorry for taking so much of your time, every one starts somewhere!) Themcman1 16:03, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
so the gardens of chatsworth, which you have to pay to enter, do not qualify as a public place. Thanks, you have helped me to understand the copyright status more. Themcman1 16:09, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:576px-Anthraxnote2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

The FlickreviewR bot reports a mismatch on Image:David_Singmaster_2006.jpg but I don't know how. All the versions I've found--the commons image, and the Flickr image (under both URLs) compare identical when I download them (with Firefox to MacOSX). While I'd like it fixed, of course, I'm more interested in being sure I'm doing the right thing to keep the bot happy so it doesn't need more human intervention. Is there some log of what sort of mismatch the bot found, or a way to see if the bot still finds a mismatch? I suppose the photographer could have temporarily changed the Flickr copy, but bugs abound. --Dan Hoey 17:22, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

prime ministers

[edit]

hello there Yonathanh, concerning the correct term for prime ministers I do believe it is written in small letters. If we talk about a single person, such as "Prime Minister of Canada" I think it is capitalised, however if we talk of multiple ones, I believe it is written small. Some of the categories such as the PMs of India for example were small, I thought it best to have all the categories in one format. sincerely Gryffindor 14:26, 4 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hi. I'm Lajsikonik, a beaurocrat of Polish Wikipedia. You put a request for bot flag on pl.Wiki. I have watching edits maded by Yona.bot, most of it was correct, but it seems like bot has a problem with wrong replacing links to en.Wikipedia, such as this edition. Let me know, if you fix it. By now, I can't grant a flag.

Me again. I accept your eplainations: indeed, page has been moved and soon moved back, OK. As I promice yestraday on IRC #wikipedia-pl, today I make decision: flag granted. However, sometimes py wikipedia framework is working wrong with disambuguation pages, and I didn't see how your bot is able to deal with it. Therefore, I'll watch its editions till I find answer for this question.

A question to the administrator

[edit]

Yonatanh, this is me (Riva72) again. I have to ask you for your administrative assistance and your advice. I asked the same questions to Herby (the Commons administrator) but, I am afraid that he is not available as he stated at: [2].

1. Please remove/delete all the previous histories of the files listed at my deletion-request page: [3] and leave only the current file versions. Some of the previous histories of the files contain personal data which I wish to remove as my Riva72's user-page was deleted (which I requested for). 2. Please advice me how to ask for the allowance of placing a template to the set of eight photos. Am I to make 'the deletion request page' for them and place there this request of mine? I mean the photos named Image:Caspod1.gif to Image:Caspod8.gif'. I would love to perform the following action:

  • E.g. Image:Caspod1.gif - I want to change the template from: 'cc-by-2.5' to [4] with the information that: The Polish Wikipedia project is prohibited by the author of this photo to use this file and its derivatives.
Can such a change be done to the photos released into the public domain? ('PD-self' licence)?

OK. These are three questions. I hope you do not mind them. I ask you for the honest answer.. Thank you.

I inform you that I will not remove or modify my deletion request at [5] and will place no comments/explanations if not necessary.

Have a good evening. --213.199.192.60 19:22, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Times Square Panorama

[edit]

Hi! You asked for a new panorama of Times Square. Maybe this one Image:Times Square Panorama.jpg could help. Have a nice day! --Sam67fr 14:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the warning, Yonatanh. Anyway, I advise you to first check the user pages of the users to be warned in the future. In my case, if you had done it, you would have seen where I am usually to be found. If you quickly check my contributions here, you can see in a sec that my being out of Commons for months it is not unusual.

I do not think the picture was unsourced. I would say that the necessary explanations about the pic's origin and status were clearly stated in the page now in limbo, both in English and in Spanish, but, given the fact it is now deleted and consequently I have no access to it, I may be wrong. If you happen to be a sysop here, please check it for me in the deletion log. The pic was uploaded before the systematic tagging became sort of compulsory. If the information required is in the history of the page, I guess that anybody reading it could have added the proper templates before having to resort to bureaucratic, time consuming, speedy deletion.

The picture was taken by Nicolás Pérez. Many of his pictures are in Commnos (here is one) most of them uploaded by User:Lourdes Cardenal. It was created to be placed in Commons. The licence should be the same as the one in the sample picture link above. I would appreciate if it is restored asap together with its full history record. I will add the necessary taggings if nobody else, after reading the information in it, does it before. Should any relevant events, problems or questions arise, please leave me a message in this user talk page. Thank you. --Piolinfax 01:03, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message and sorry if I sounded a bit annoyed in my previous message. It was quite late at night and, for a series of reasons, it was not the best moment for me to find such a message. I am a sysop as well and I know that sometimes there are too many things to do in the wikis, so please accept my sincere apologies. I thought of placing a direct link in my user talk page as you advise but I was too tired and wanted to do sth else first. I'll do it in a moment.
I do not think Nicolás is active in any Wikimedia projects. He is Lourdes Cardenal's husband. He took the picture for me after I discovered the metal sign by chance in my city and mentioned it to Lourdes. Lourdes is active in several wikis. She speaks Spanish and French. I will leave a message in her es.wikipedia user talk page to see how can we mend all this.--Piolinfax 21:22, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I left the message but I have just learnt that she is on holiday for a week (on top of her talk page one can read Wikivacaciones de unos 8 días a partir del jueves día 5 de abril., i.e. "Wikiholiday of approximately 8 days starting on 5th April") so the permission may be delayed a few days. --Piolinfax 22:44, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for temporarily restoring the file and changing the tag :) --Piolinfax 18:31, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Yonatanh. Nicolás Pérez created an account in Commons recently, here. He has not written anything in his user page, though. I told him in his user talk page that probably the best thing he could do was leaving a statement there giving permission for his many pics downloaded by Lourdes, me and maybe others to be used here in Commons. Last time I wrote you, I forgot to mention this picture he took of both of Lourdes and me some years ago when we met for first time. In the text below the picture that can be found here, I already mention that Nicolás (no surname, though) had taken it (gentileza de = courtesy of). That page was created in w:es:Wiktipedia:Café the same day and then moved to its current location by Sabbut. You can check the history log. Shortly after our meeting ended, Lourdes and I spent some minutes looking for the metal sign I had previously discovered by chance (we were near the spot). Some days or weeks later she sent me the picture by e-mail. I am not sure if I uploaded it first in es.wikipedia and then in Commons or I directly put it here first. I am telling you all this to dispel any suspicion that that user account could be a sockpuppet. Regards --Piolinfax 15:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not branding you a paranoiac, of course . I was just taking advantage of some facts relating to my relationship with Nicolás in order to make it clean and clear in general. Now it is written and I can link my explanation to the text above should some new doubts on the issue arise. As soon as Nicolás give his permission (he and Lourdes are now once again out for the week-end ... lucky lot!) I will let you know. Thanx! --Piolinfax 18:27, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nicolás finally added his permission in his user page. I know you know some Spanish but I will translate it anyway. It says:
  • «My name is Nicolás Pérez. I am the author of some photos, maps and charts that were uploaded to this project by the users Lourdes y Piolinfax. I grant the GFDL to all these pictures and pieces. I also fully hand over all their rights to these two users, under the same licence, every time they upload in my name any material created by me.»
I have linked the picture to Nicolás' user page but I have not removed the warning. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks and regards. :) --Piolinfax 23:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. About the image Image:Nisse d apres nature ill jnl fal.png, it is absolutely my own work and actually I think it was written in the summary, maybe not in the cleareast way I guess. Jean-no 07:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not that I mind...

[edit]

But I have a problem with that system. The TL template causes an increase in server load whereas the link template method I do is less of a load. Multiply that by several thousand per day per page per user.... For the same end result, linking is just the same but better. Not that I'll revert or change it back without needing to make another edit since that's probably a greater server load than the change will save. MECUtalk 14:59, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. But "re-flickreview" is bad English. "re-{{flickreview}}ed" looks funny so that's why I did "re-{{flickrreview}}'d". MECUtalk 15:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I'll shutup now. Thanks. MECUtalk 15:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please turn on your reminders

[edit]

Can you please turn on your reminders in preferences to leave an "Edit summary" that makes sense for the benefit of other editors. Just 'Marking something as minor' isn't descriptive, nor helpful when one receives email alerts of changes, or has to look at a watchlist. Why ask others to spend their time because you can't make a note? It's a little rude. The summaries are helpful in evaluating such, or would be if you made One.

I've just had to revert several well intentioned changes you made to Template:Mta catgegories declarations, as you didn't bother to ask me whether the redlinked category name was going to be used... as it is and will be. I don't usually declare a cat until it's got some contents, so taking those out of templates is a setback, plus puts things into an incompatible state with other sisters.

This kind of change is good, and should be copied as well to the other sisters using the links provided by the {{Interwikitmp-grp}} tagging... but with similar summaries please! Thanks // FrankB 18:53, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: If I make a tiny change where making an edit summary would take as long or longer than the actual edit did then it seems ludicrous to me to include an edit summary.
In translation means your moment in time is far more important and consequential than the many other people who may be watching a page, and have to decide whether your edit was a good idea...

I hope you agree upon further mature reflection that's a very discourteous way to conduct yourself in a joint enterprise. If the trouble of informing others why the history has changed is too much trouble, then submit the correct and most courteously best course would be to NOT make the edit. It's not fair to ask anyone to take their time because you can't be bothered to pick up your dirty socks either, and this is the same kind of thing. A lack of regard for the impact of your actions on others.

As far as the diffs, the point was immaterial, both involved Template namespace templates, which by the by is navigable to see what else was tagged with said cat, unless someone removes it before it has been tied into the category scheme. In this case, WP destabalized their template cats suggesting that leaving some time for things to settle a bit was a good idea, as the goal is to make those parts of the template category schemes as equal as possible across all the English sister projects once below the templates root category. (I've little enough time for wiki work, that redoing things is not the best plan.) That will aid all of us working cross-wiki to find things on a different project.

You can translate anything I say in any way you want but that doesn't make it true. I want to contribute as much as I possibly can and if an edit summary hinders the contributions - I won't use it. True, I maybe could've used -cat (and I usually do) except I didn't see the need to *in this particular case* since it seemed fairly obvious to me that the category was accidentally copied over and needed to be removed. The Wikimedia Commons *is NOT* the English Wikipedia, nor is it an English project - it is a multilingual project. Copying over more and more templates and categories that aren't necessarily needed on commons bureaucrifies commons and is simply not needed. If the English Wikipedia has x templates, they need y categories and if we have u templates, we don't need that same "b" amount of categories. I am more than happy to discuss the changes I make with you however if you had simply created the category when you copied the template over I never would've removed it from the template. Also, please note that you would've viewed my changes either way so lack of an edit summary is not an issue in this case - it's something separate that you're pissed off about but it isn't relevant here. Yonatan talk 20:11, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How do you misconstrue me as being pissed? I made a simple request. Have attempted to point out that what you did is disrespectful of others time, and think frankly, we've both spent enough time on this. We obviously disagree and will have to let it go at that. I hope you'll forgive me for thinking it an immature and irresponsible attitude, no matter how you self-rationalize it. I'm rather consistent on how people affect other people's time, no matter which of the eleven sister's I happen to be working on at the moment.

As to the cats and languages, I only patrol English, but you need to take into account that nearly every foundation wiki irregardless of language ties into the English projects, and TSP is a meta project, not just wikipedia. The category is one for collecting sub-templates used within others which is a good division... those writing new templates can perhaps reuse something already in place, and those looking for a template don't have to wade through sub-template names which won't act as a standalone tool. The folks at wikipedia just happen to have the largest tool template library which means that now and again one is copied to other sisters, and how they categorize things impacts other projects at times. Be well. // FrankB 20:30, 17 April 2007 (UTC) re: Your last[reply]

  • OK- consider yourself yelled at in advance on wp then for the +cat/-cat stuff <g> ... truth to tell, I occasionally do that one meself. Prefer to offer a bit better clue though, but if the cut buffer is full, or is just a (usually proper or better) subcategory, then the +/- cat makes sense. Anyhow, I speak from the experience of many years working big projects with many contributors, that has driven home the lesson that it's far better to make a note than to answer ten people asking questions on it later. Wiki's admittedly are a bit different, but the implications to others time and confusion are quite parallel. Be well. // FrankB 00:38, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Btw - is there a similar template to {{Db-author}} (That's currently just a redirect to speedydelete, which is more image focused than for a generic page like an unused template, sub-template, or user sandbox page) here should I want to tidy up some now useless pages? // FrankB 00:38, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: your answer here: Unfortunately we don't but I might try creating a new modified version that should be used for the other namespaces (or if you wanna port something over from en and commonize it). Yonatan 00:58, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think it a good idea, but really don't have a good enough handle on the local politics here to push for it, and am really really really not interested in plumbing those depths right now. I know enough that it ought to be a VP item if there isn't already a patrol in place on such a category page. From what I can see, even the deletion discussions here of non-images take forever and a day... not enough of a work force I suspect. If you or another admin were to do that, I'd be glad to support it. Thanks // FrankB 01:11, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong way

[edit]

Yonatanh, I strongly desagree with the way you are working here in Commons. If you think a certain image is not superseded by a SVG version, OK, but do not simply delete the superseded template. You may discuss firstly, then change the template to the one that indicates other version, or at least indicate both versions at the description page. If you continue to proceed like you are doing, I will consider it as a vandalism -- as well as many other users and administrators. --Tonyjeff 19:25, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not understand your last phrase. --Tonyjeff 19:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you did here, for instance. And I did not said that you are a vandal, but keep doing things like that, even after the warning above, then you would certainly be considered as one. --Tonyjeff 19:54, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, your status as an administrator do not exclude you to be considered a vandal. Secondly, it is not a mistake made two months ago when you were a newbie that will make you a vandal, but the insistence on it. Thirdly, you may bold, but cannot be reckless, and ommit important information of the article -- be bold do not means to act as a lonely editor in the whole WP. Finally, it is not the point if the superseded template you be deleted or not -- even because anyone may change it if wants to other equivalent template, if at least change to something reasonable, what was not the case. --Tonyjeff 20:14, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I´m going to try once again what you may read above: I DID NOT said that you are a vandal, DID NOT said that you insisted on that mistake, DID NOT said that you could not change that template to another and DID NOT said that you had not good faith on it -- what surely would´t be the case if you insisted on that; in fact, I did not even try to search such mistake of yours in other pages, because I am indeed assuming good faith. Finally, and again, there are lots of cases of administrators that, after receiving such status, start to act wrongly, what I really expect that is not the case. To me, the important is that you do not simply delete information from pages from now on, since many times there may be much effort and research from other editors on the article. --Tonyjeff 21:08, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki's edit

[edit]

What generated the motivation for this series of interwiki spacing changes? Some sister's display the interwiki's underneath, and they clump up in an ugly way, so the added spacing helps those display better, so if there's a reason to not follow that practice, I need to know since I try as a rule to make text identical between sisters. This will make for differences in Meta, Wikiversity and wikispecies, iirc. Thanks // FrankB 03:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added the en interwiki and didn't see why that code was there so I removed it as it's obviously not needed on commons. I also don't see the need for them to be completely identical across projects (and they obviously won't be since commons will have the en interwiki and the others won't). Yonatan talk 07:46, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're assuming excess equates to bad. There is no harm to having an en interwiki on any of the English sites-- it merely restates the obvious--which brings up the question as to why you added it at all, but <chuckle> I really don't need to know that! <g> I'd sure as hell never see it, looking at that bar is not something I'm likely to do.

However, the whole concept of the template sharing project is to uniformatize things and eliminate the need for changes, including by making any links portable so one can cut an paste the whole page site to site if a change is needed. And, at the same time, provide common tools so we can all be productive in off-home wiki editing, part of that toolkit is good documentation and consistent categorization so people can locate what they need. Some templates are the same but have a different name, so {{Interwikitmp-grp}} was designed to handle those, as well as bypass one's deleted, or name collisions with another template of the same name, etc. The English interwiki in light of that functionality is rather narrow in scope. // FrankB 08:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you just deleted all of the works of J-H Lartigue from commons, under "french government owned photos are not in the PD". Well, Lartigue's works are not owned by the french goverment. It was donated to the french gov by L in his will, and the fr. gov immediately donated them to the public, such as they did with the photography itself :) So it is in the PD, and a government paid organization is taking care of Lartigue's works. So, please bring em back :) I'm User:VinceB, the uploader of them, just lazy to log in :) I went after this question, before loading 'em up, so I'm sure, this time I'm right.
