Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Heritage GLAM Display.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Heritage GLAM Display.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Category:Photos_by_Diwan_Manna has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Why out of scope? MiguelAlanCS (talk) 16:00, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hello MiguelAlanCS! My apologies, the theme is very vague. Is this image under "Festivals, ceremonies and rituals"? There are many uploads from people with couple images. But if this is under wedding photos, please let me know. Best Regards Wikilover90 (talk) 16:03, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hello again, the image is about a festival celebrated in the Spanish city of Teruel, which celebrates love. It is a recreation of a medieval legend of the 12th century whose peak moment is a kiss between the two lovers. Why out of scope??? Stop it!
Hi, I am very upset because I saw that you put my photograph into the category "out of scope". There is no acceptable reason for that action! Why did you do that? What is wrong with a photo of Valentine Day flowers? If you don't know about Valentine Day and its customs, please keep your fingers away from the keyboard. --Maimaid (talk) 18:23, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Out of scope - how?
You have categorized these two images as "Out of scope images from Wiki Loves Love 2019". Could you tell how? Concept says "monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love". 1st image is monument as named "Lover’s Leap". You can google it read and use google map to locate the spot. 2nd image "tender gesture". I would to hear your explanation for rejecting these images as "Out of scope". --AntanO 16:35, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- Apologies AntanO. The theme of Wiki Loves Love is all manner of festivals, celebrations, ceremonies and rituals of love across the continents in different cultures and regions. The monuments and gestures sadly were not in 2019 iteration of Wiki Loves Love. Wikilover90 (talk) 16:42, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- Did you read Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2019 under "Concept"? It says monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love. --AntanO 16:47, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- @AntanO: You are correct the concept of the project accepts monuments and tender gesture. Regarding Wikilover90's assessment the images the user is reviewing is as per the competition scope. The competition scope can be found at Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2019#Competition scope: examples to get inspired. As per the competition scope these images does not qualify the theme i.e. document all manner of festivals, celebrations, ceremonies and rituals of love across the continents in different cultures and regions. If you feel that the these images fit in our competition scope please do explain us. Thank you for your contribution to Wikimedia Commons. --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 05:55, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- It's funny that scope and example are difference! I already explained how the image fit with scope, but you give rational for scope's example. :) --AntanO 02:26, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Welcome, Dear Filemover!
Hi Wikilover90, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff
Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:
- I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
- Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
- Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.
Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. Question from the CPUG Board
Dear user group member,
I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.
With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.
That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.
However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:
Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022
We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.

Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023
Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.
All the best to you, your family, and friends! --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Banna Tribe has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you
Dear fellow Commons photographer,
I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.
At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.
All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
