Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 13:47, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello !
[edit]Hi Trongphu !
- I've reviewed your pictures as asked.
- I think you are wrong in your choice of subjects.
- Your camera is not able to take sophisticated pictures ("macro" inside, like your chess board, or strongly "photoshoped", like your "library" one).
- In my opinion, maybe could you try to take at first very simple pictures, outside, with a good light, of the normal life, or of monuments or buildings in your country.
- You know what ? I know Viet-Nam a little, I visited parts of your very nice country 15 years ago (Hanoï and the Halong bay). It was wonderful.
- You have many things to take, looking maybe "normal" to you, but probably very interesting for the eyes of other members of the "Commons" community (I think you are alone as Vietnamese).
- Please don't give up, try and try again.
- And notice that my very first QI (and FP !) were taken with a very small camera !
- Have a look to my galleries on my user page
- You can do it !
- Never forget to ask me (or others) if needed.
- Cheers from Paris and good luck,--Jebulon (talk) 00:14, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe you could download the software called GIMP. It is very helpful for improvements of pictures (colors, levels, correction of noise, of perspective etc...). At the very first time, it looks not very easy, but step after step, you may discover many interesting tools, and manage how to use them. Now I'm able to use retouching tools, and I can clone up or crop out disturbing elements in an image. And it is FREE ! Read first the WP related article, the don't hesitate to try it. Then you may correct perspective distortions, barrel distortions, and... mustache distortions too (yes, it exists !).--Jebulon (talk) 15:37, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Featured picture candidates
[edit]Hello Trongphu, and thanks for participating at FPC. Please be aware that this is not a historical picture and revise your review accordingly. Note that many participants expressed dissatisfaction recently regarding "careless reviews" and lack of useful feedback, so I suggest you can take that as an encouragement to have a thorough critical look at each image and provide a more detailed feedback. Wish you happy editing. --ELEKHHT 22:44, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Your valued image candidate
[edit]You carried out the nomination process correctly, but the valued image candidate page isn't displaying your image due to the large number of closed candidacies which need to be archived. They haven't been archived because the bot hasn't been operating properly for a few weeks. Hopefully it will be started back up again properly soon. Thanks. Claritas (talk) 20:51, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Trongphu,
- Sorry to be so late in answering. I was wrong and Claritas is right. The VI system is completely blocked, you did not mistake. Let's wait, but I don't know who can or could do something.--Jebulon (talk) 09:07, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Trongphu,
You four beauties are very nice and a very interesting topic. In the Valued Images Candidates page, you may nominate single pictures, or multiple picures in a set. If you take the time to read the complete guidelines, or the whole nomination page, you may learn what a set is. As you showed us four pictures, I think a set nomination should have been more appropriate. That's what I meant.--Jebulon (talk) 21:24, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

VI : Egg illustrations
[edit]I suggest to change the scope "Egg illustrations" in "Egg illustrations nineteenth century." This premettrait, perhaps, to break the deadlock.

Shells
[edit]Hi, I started collecting shells about 35 years ago when I was studying biology. But it was always a hobby, never professional. More than 20 years ago I got another job (not as biologist), but the hobby remained. I collect(ed) shells during journeys, I exchanged with other collectors or I bought intersting shells. So I got and get my shells. Greetings --Llez (talk) 06:55, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
File tagging File:Bubblephotoshop.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Bubblephotoshop.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Bubblephotoshop.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Your participating in voting
[edit]Dear Trongphu,
I can see that you participated in the featured picture voting on Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Steinway & Sons concert grand piano, model D-274, manufactured at Steinway's factory in Hamburg, Germany.png. Fortunately, this beautiful picture became a featured picture because many persons participated in the voting period. The rules says that there has to be at least 7 supporting votes and a ratio of supporting/opposing votes at least 2/1 (a two-thirds majority).[1]
Therfore, I would kindly ask you if you would like to give your vote in this similar voting Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Steinway & Sons upright piano, model K-132, manufactured at Steinway's factory in Hamburg, Germany.png before it ends on 9 May 2012 at 01:58:26 (UTC).
Thanks!
Yours sincerely, --Hereiamfriends (talk) 15:31, 5 May 2012 (UTC).
Picture of the Year/2011
[edit]Hi Trongphu. I'm not very familiar with the voting system, but as far as I can see you can vote for several pictures in thhe first round and only 1 vote in the final round. The price...? I don't know exactly, but I think... honour ;-) . Greetings --Llez (talk) 16:28, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Help
[edit]Hallo Trongphu. I never did it, so i am not famiiar with it. but on the upload page you find besides "It is entirely my own work" also the possibility "It is from another Wikimedia project (Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, etc.)". Have you tried this tool? Perhaps you must download the picture on your computer and then upload again with this tool. --Llez (talk) 05:16, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

And also:
File:XaLuan.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
[edit]Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
