Thanks!
[edit]Thanks for uploading the latest images I'd asked for from the iDominick Flickr account - saved me some work. :) Tabercil (talk) 14:40, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- sure, i was wondering how you missed those images..so he releases them when requested?..good to know :) ..--Stemoc 22:24, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well I noticed his heads-up to me on the license change, but wasn't able to immediately upload them which was how you had the opportunity to do that. And I'm still working through his Flickr account to see what else we can make use of - right now I'm waiting for changes in the Big Bang set which'll end up replacing the infoboxes for all the lead actors on the show. If you're going to ask him for shots, all I'd like is to be given a heads-up beforehand so we don't end up working to cross-purposes. Tabercil (talk) 15:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- no problems, I prefer not to ask people to release their images unless there is a major need (a major actor/recent death). I won't be requesting him for any images as i find him adding images from 2013 and 2014 periodically a bit weird..--Stemoc 01:08, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

How
[edit]So I ask Sean Koo to change the licenses on some pictures, and if I'm not quick enough, you upload them lol How do you do that? How do you know that they've changed licenses? Lady Lotus (talk) 12:05, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- I don't..I asked him to change licence for all, he said he may..so waiting on that for now :) --Stemoc 12:38, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well that was just last night, but you've done it in the past too. Like the one of Lori Laughlin he wanted me to upload but you did it before I could and I was like...how'd he know he changed the license?? You're just that good ;) Lady Lotus (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Whenever I come across a flickr user that uploads pics of celebs, I stalk them lol. Image reviewers also have access to a feature/extension called Upload Wizard/Flickr which makes uploading free images from Flickr faster which will soon be available to all...I'm a big Lori fan, when i saw her image was free, I jumped..lol I hope he changes the licence to free for all celebs in that album, he has some good images and the photographs are really good too (no low-res Instagram types)--Stemoc 00:20, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
- I hope he does too, a lot of good shots :) Lady Lotus (talk) 12:45, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

You're like a ninja! I asked JD with Mingle Media to change the licenses on 12 images, he told me last night that he did and then you uploaded them before I could again! LOL how do you know or find out that an image changes it license for use on here? I wanna know how to do that lol Lady Lotus (talk) 12:31, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- Haha, I don't, i'm on flickr and i follow a lot of flickr accounts, when MM updates, i check to see if any image has been licensed freely, most times its not..I had to check twice to see if those images were on commons, and then i uploaded them..haha ..sorry :P ..--Stemoc 13:43, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- Lol no worries! How do you check to see if any image has been licensed freely? Is there a button for that? lol Such a flickr noob ;) Lady Lotus (talk) 17:17, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- Well i'm a licence reviewer which gives me access to a tool which can upload all the free images from any set (50) so i make good use of that, there is also a tool called Flickr2commons which has a similar capability though it won't always tell you if that image is already on commons ..btw, create an account on flickr, follow users that have uploaded free images to flickr and follow them, if they add more, you'll know, its just a matter of checking on the images :) --Stemoc 01:32, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

@INeverCry: , yeah that user actually had a lot of images on cc-by-sa and I uploaded a few of them, but when i thanked him for allowing use of his image, he deleted that image changed all the licenses to ARR..as per our policy, flickr licenses are "irrevocable" so i let them be..I have no reason to manipulate licences ..--Stemoc 05:22, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
- The problem here is that the image shows you as both uploader and reviewer, which makes your review invalid per policy. INeverCry 05:25, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
- sure, u can re-review and delete it, I was told by someone a few weeks after i added it that it was not the same Lea T ..apparently..--Stemoc 05:32, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Too artificial-looking
[edit]Hello there! I saw that you tried to improve Sophie Hunter's image. But to be quite honest, it really looks unnatural, like it has been under a lot of alterations, and it must have. This is a version of the image http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/2/2c/20150202043020%21Sophie_Hunter.jpg uploaded by INeverCry on 03:56, 2 February 2015 looks just like the original photo. I think it would be best to just use this version, if it's too small, you can just resize it. Just my opinion. 180.191.69.3 13:38, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Thompson image
[edit]As discussed, do not rewrite an image by a cropped version please. Besides, your crop is of more poor quality than the original (no offense but you simply cut too much). There are currently three versions of the file:
So either reupload the left crop separately, or let's leave the issue for now unless there is a more suitable image to use instead. Thank you for your contributions, understanding and patience. MiewEN (talk) 16:17, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- The focus of the image should be "HER FACE" so its best to crop off her hair and the sides and the top and in this case, her head was cropped off already by the photographer, the best i could do was focus her face and thats what i did, its your crops which i find stupid leaving large space on top of people's head making it look silly in infoboxes ..I remember reverting one of those dumb cropping by you..--Stemoc 01:19, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

File:Tracy Ann Oberman.jpg
[edit]What is your rationale for claiming that my upload of this image is a copyright violation? I have permission from Tracy-Ann Oberman herself, the copyright at https://www.flickr.com/photos/davedwards/sets/72157651004894005/ has been set correctly. The image currently displayed on her wikipedia page is unflattering and badly shot. As there is no copyright violation, I will be submitting a request to reverse its deletion forthwith.
- what we have here my friend is called Flickrwashing, claiming to own copyright is not good enough, I can just as easily claim to hold copyright to Brad Pitt's images...you can upload them if you like, no admin will allow it though ...--Stemoc 14:07, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

for review
[edit]Hi Stemoc, thank you for this review [2]. The flickr license is CC-BY-SA-2.0, and the wikipedia commons claimed license is CC-BY-SA-4.0. I am relatively new to these things, what do you think, should the commons license be changed? Also should I remove the image from "Category:Flickr review needed"? Thanks again. Copyright status: File:Nancy Pelosi and Members of Congressional Delegation Meet Japan's House Speaker Machimura April 2015.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. Thanks for uploading File:Nancy Pelosi and Members of Congressional Delegation Meet Japan's House Speaker Machimura April 2015.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear. If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)
If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.
Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.And also:

Low resolution crops
[edit]I 'think' I fixed all of the low-res crops you pointed out on IRC the other day... the source images were all on Commons (at full resolution), so I recropped and overwrote them, and linked the full-res versions on Commons as the 'source' for the crops (and vice versa as extracted images). Attempted to duplicate the extents of the existing crops, except for a couple I tweaked slightly because of intruding objects. It's possible, though, that I missed some that didn't have 'cropped' in the filename. Meh. Revent (talk) 20:25, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I actually made a few crops myself from the HQ version, there wasn't a need to make all of them so now we have a few similar type crops lol...the idea to ask bart to stop making low res crops as i managed to fix and replace a few of those low res with HQ versions of mine on the English wiki...but thanks ;)--Stemoc 03:05, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think some of the crops are rather redundant, but not deletable without a DR (since they aren't actually duplicates)... at least now they are high-res redundant crops instead of basically thumbnails. Revent (talk) 05:12, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Request to move Young Kamehameha III.jpg to Portrait of Timoteo Ha'alilio by an unknown artist.jpg
[edit]Could I talk you into changing this once more. It appears that the Bishop Museum made a mistake many decades ago when labeling a postcard for their gift shop. They have stated that they firmly believe this portrait to be of Timothy Haʻalilio and is labeled as such at the museum. The confusion seems to come from the fact that the two historical figures are closely related, grew up together and looked very similar at a young age.

Unwanted photo of Daryl Hannah
[edit]Dear Stemoc,
I represent Daryl Hannah herself and would like to ask you to remove current photo of hers - she strongly opposes to usage of this particular photo for her page on Wikipedia.
Instead, she would like you to use her other photo that she uses on hew website, particularly this pne
http://darylhannah.com/wp-content/uploads/daryl-hannah_wiki_03.jpg
Could you do this for her?
Any questions - don't hesitate to ask me via email: redworker@gmail.com
Thank you!
All the best, Mikhail
- I'm sorry but celebs do not OWN their wikipedia pages, we use whatever free image we can find and the current image is pretty good, we refuse to remove good images of celebs from the article unless a new free one comes along and the one you linked is not free and its copyrighted (EFE/José Jácome) so no thanks, we will use the current one until as such a free one is found...--Stemoc 11:41, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

File:Sheri Fink 2015.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

[edit]Just wondering, doesn't commons mention that a file be reuploaded if cropped very significantly? (which was the case with that photo...) --Temp24 (talk) 10:50, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
@Temp24: , if there were more than one notable people in the picture, the I would have made another crop but there isn't, just the Prince so no need to keep the original, just the cropped version...if you think the girl is 'notable' go to that flickr stream and re-upload the image with the girl's name in the image title ..--Stemoc 13:05, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Lincoln Chafee
[edit]I've emailed the Lincoln Chafee 2016 staffers and they gave me permission to use an image of Chafee. When I upload the image should I put it under my work or copyrighted work? How can I prove to other users that the staffers emailed me with permission to upload the picture? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:19, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101: , send the permission you got to the OTRS team so that they can give it a ticket for use on commons...--Stemoc 02:25, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
A tip about cropping
[edit]Hey friend! I've just seen your contribution File:Janet McTeer Berlin 2015.jpg where you'd replaced the file with a cropped one.
Image replacing is a great feature because it lets you enhance the photo (color improving, sharpening, de-noising) and then all sites that use this file get the enhanced version. But cropping isn't always an enhancement. Cropping may drastically limit a photo's amount of information (we don't want that) and may also change it's geometry (that can affect some site's design).
In cases like this one, I think it's best to create a new file page (like File:Janet McTeer Berlin 2015 (cropped).jpg) and leave the original intact, so that the uncropped version be usable too.
You may also use Template:Extracted from to indicate the original version (like in this example).
If you wish to follow my advise, and you want to correct previous uploads like the above, I would suggest that you won't roll back File:Janet McTeer Berlin 2015.jpg, because this will affect many pages that use it as it is now (a head shot). Instead, now, the best thing to do is to upload the original again, under a new name (like File:Janet McTeer Berlin 2015 (un-cropped).jpg) and then put Template:Extracted from in cropped file's page.
Don't forget that Commons is not a repository just for Wikipedia. There are thousands of third party wikis that use those images via the InstantCommons feature. What's good for Wikipedia may be bad for other sites. For instance, some wikis may not want very tight head shots. This is how I got here in the first place. I have a third party wiki and the un-cropped version fitted my needs best, but I cannot use it as it is now.
I hope I helped you!
Keep up the good work!

Rugby World Cup
[edit]Admit it, you uploaded all those pictures without checking if there is any need for them, didn't you? Aʀvєδuι + 06:58, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Arvedui89: , no, You and I both know images related to "rugby union" is lacking and by luck you found 2 sets containing images from 2 RWC games and you didn't even bother to upload all of them, only adding those that you could "poorly" crop and add to articles.. I had to go beg a few other flickr users to release their images freely because we so desperately need rugby union related images on wikipedia especially of rugby players.. If you are NOT willing to upload ALL from the set, Please do NOT bother to upload any...--Stemoc 11:57, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- No, I haven't just found them. I convinced their authors to change licences. I have no problem with other pictures being uploaded, however I think not every single picture is worth uploading. Some of them have no encyclopedic value (a), some are un-cropped versions of those I already uploaded (b), there are series of similar pictures. None of them has a proper name, description or category. I uploaded this few just because it was midnight and I had no more time that day to finish it. I just wanted to do it "properly" rather that "poorly". Aʀvєδuι + 12:27, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
