Coats of arms to be classified
I think that your images could be classified as Category:Coats of arms of universities of Canada, a new category created to contains all the coats of arms of the universities of Canada. So any user interested to heraldry has the opportunity to reach theese blazons, even if he doesn't know their filename, simply searching in mother category Category:Coats of arms then searching in depending categories and so on. That's all. (I regret my english, but I am italian). Bye Massimop 19:48, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Qu'Appelle, Ft Qu'Appelle, Grenfell and Weyburn
The infobox in the Qu'Appelle and Ft Qu'Appelle articles look terrific. I'd like to add one to the Grenfell and Weyburn articles but I don't know how you went about creating the map for the Qu'Appelle articles which show the location. (Incidentally, though, you've got Qu'Appelle and the Fort rather nearer Regina and to the north than they actually are.) You'll possibly have wondered why I went to so much trouble over the Qu'Appelle article given that the "town" is nowadays little more than a village, and a waning one at that, but it has some historical interest well beyond its continuing significance. 220.236.123.89 03:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Please tag your images
Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

Upper levels of the categories should not have more than 200 items. There are literally thousands of species of plants that can occur in a single political division of the world like Saskatchewan. Please consider undoing any other similar changes that you made to the category system.
On a personal note, it took me a while to figure it out when I first started to do things here. I had categories which were circular (like categories of each other and not part of a tree) and well, it has been a while but mistakes get made when figuring things out and I undid one of them. Thanks for your consideration of this. -- carol (talk) 19:21, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I like the uploads of the plants that went into Fauna of Saskatchewan -- that is for animals though (which include bugs and perhaps germs and bacteria).

FP Nomination
I suggest withdrawing that nomination (there is an example of how to do that there at the review) and follow the procedure to renominate the larger image. -- carol (talk) 04:29, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Same for this one, it fails size requirements. As well, from a personal point of view, I highly doubt you will be able to make these pictures FP from witnessing how other flowers pictures made it in the FPC process. I suggest you look at this page to see the quality expected for FP. By no way I'm saying that your pictures are bad, it's just that the FP process is really severe, in order to only get the best of the best pictures with such a mention (0.05% of all the media of common has been voted FP). I suggest you ask for advices on photography to experienced users, and that you read the general guidelines for FPC. As for myself, I would say that the WishieSized.jpg is too dark, not sharp enough, the background is distracting and the subject should be off-center. For the Geum triflorum.jpg, the flower is out of focus (and DOF is too small), there's grass in front of the main subject, the sky is saturated and the background is distracting... Ouf... hope you're still there. But don't worry, most of my images have many defects as well (I'm by no way an expert, my camera is a 5 years old point-and-shoot), and a great majority of the pictures on Common are far from being perfect. So, go outside, take pictures and try to improve on the comments I gave you. Feel free to ask my opinion on future pictures. Regards --S23678 (talk) 05:05, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can ditto all of this and honestly, while I would not oppose any of your images I would not vote in support of them either. Many of the commons photographers have images they upload because they will be useful for many projects but they don't nominate them there due to a lack of greatness. Observe that review system for a while, even without voting (if you can). My eyes have been very much spoiled by some of the photographs that have been entered there and in other reviews here. This interface is smaller, in that there are fewer review thingies than perhaps Flickr who have a million different groups each with an administration and perhaps an enthusiastic user group -- but the images that are accepted there (especially recently that they stopped downsizing as a means to fix sharpness problems) are really the cream. -- carol (talk) 05:39, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Not just a yellow flower
This image is not just another yellow flower! It is a another damned yellow composite! And if I was not banned at English wikipedia right now, I would put that image into the taxonomy box for Senecio congestus. Could you do that? -- carol (talk) 03:06, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Also, I don't want to invade your romantisization of achenes and their ability to travel without legs, but the scientists tend to measure how far they travel via wind in meters and not miles or kilometers (I learned that while writing the article for en:Dendrosenecio where they were trying to figure out how those DYCs got to the tops of those mountains). -- carol (talk) 03:15, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- The article about en:Dendrosenecio was fascinating about how the actual plant changed as it grew in different habitats becoming so different.SriMesh | talk 03:15, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, my enthusiasm for having an image of that plant overwhelmed me. If I remember the events leading to the creation of the wikipedia article, it was when I found this image here at the commons (it was not in a gallery and also not in a category so it was just floating around in nowhere land waiting for the proper sequence to be typed into the search box). It looked so much like Image:Tephroseris palustris.jpg.
- Your image very well might be Senecio integerrimus. See http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SEIN2 and I got the name by putting Sask. into the search stuff and the only senecio that GRIN has for that province (they list species origins by what they consider to be natives so that search is limited to their idea of that) http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?409987 and perhaps the most important difference between the two is that one is edible (S. congestus) and the other isn't (yours). -- carol (talk) 05:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello again. Reply here. There are sub species or (more) variations of Senecio congestus which I cannot find pictures of all of them...In the book Plants of the WEstern Boreal Forest and Aspen Parkland, they don't mention the sub species only that it is a Senecio congestus, but that is the one my flower looks identical to, and my leaves are so close to those leaves. When I look up Senecio congestus online, the leaves change so so fast, and get wooly and not lance to spoon shaped, which is what the book shows. My picture leaves really are not very wavy but the same shape as the book's Senecio congestus.
- Senecio congestus (R.Br.) DC. pic but not close up variety of pics variety of pics not close up pic
- Senecio congestus subsp. palustris (L.) Rauschert woolly plant leaves
- Senecio congestus subsp. tonsus (Fernald) Á.Löve & D.Löve
- Senecio congestus var. congestus
- Senecio congestus var. laceratus (Ledeb.) Fernald
- Senecio congestus var. palustris (L.) Fernald Tephroseris palustris
- Senecio congestus var. tonsus Fernald
no sub species name no sub species name but looks like it may be a palustris with super woolly leaves no sub species for all the varieties, but it is labelled Senecio congestus (R.Br.) DC. another senecio congestus something called a mastodon but that it is not a sub species another pic again different no sub species this leaf is wavy but long and lance to spoon shaped another not named sub species, several separate locations another mastodon flower not a scientific site though
- Ahhh!!! Senecio spec.jpg might be sub species Senecio congestus var. palustris whereas most of the other senecio congestus are a different sub species variation. I wish my book would mention its sup species. As it is not palustris, R. Br. DC. nor palustrus which are the only sub species pictures labelled I can find.
- As for my 3 or 4 pics on wikicommons being http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SEIN2 Senecio integerrimus Nutt. that is closer as the flowers are not at the top of the stem in rays, or an umbrella shape, but that plant also looks very fuzzy, and my plant is not too fuzzy, unless its sub species... Senecio integerrimus Nutt. var. exaltatus (Nutt.) Cronquist... is less fuzzy. I do so wish the sub species of all the plants had better info, or at least a written description somewheres!!!! As all the senecio congestus plants are the same, yet so different. The many varieties of goldenrod become different species themselves, but these senecio's become sub species. Oh my goodness!!!
- Now that I have a close up of both flower bloom with rays and disc, and a close up of leaves -stem and base ...I will try to go up in a few weeks, and take some pictures of my plant in its Capulescence stage. Oh my goodness!!!
SriMesh | talk 03:05, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, these little native flowers are prettier and more interesting than I first expected! I learned that in the 1990s though. Lately, I sit in a single story ranch style house that is in a well groomed neighborhood that is among many other well groomed neighborhoods that is to me in the middle of a desert (the mountains here are green in the winter and brown in the summer and it doesn't rain between April and November) and really want to be back where the weather makes the grooming of the land a little more of a challenge and where there are large areas of earth still ungroomed and growing the native plants.
- I was sitting in this creation of man and always good weather when I wrote that article. So I expect that the article text should be greatly enhanced along with the addition of photographs.
- I like gardens and garden flowers, but that is all there is here with the exception of the few extremely common weeds that I allowed to grow. Also the locals apparently consider parsley to be a weed and pull it up. What is the norm in Sask. cilantro or parsley? -- carol (talk) 03:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- I enjoy my flowers and plants along my walks, and where we would call them by their common name, now that I am trying to name them for the wiki here, it is quite a challenge to get the species down pat my goodness sakes!!! I am finding that maybe I need to get a different book better on the taxonomy, I was thinking my 3 that were fairly local would get it, however..... I am working too many hours for too much of a home garden, but I try to add some perennials each year for a burst of a short time of colour and variety, and plant annuals in the spring for year round colour.
- And more, the senecios tend to be interesting to the botanists due to their very specific mating habits per species. The largest genus of the largest family of flowers was not uninteresting to learn about. No Sri! -- carol (talk) 03:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, that text should be in a book with some pics, it is soo-o-o poetic, and cool! The park I am going to on my days off which are now over...was just recently put aside as a park, and it is an untouched part of our riverbank, with river beach or shoreline, with sandy areas, and willowy areas, then there is an old old flood plain, then the river bank to climb up, and then prairie meadow, so there is many ecological habitats for a variety of plants here. In your area are there native desert type plants cactii, or succulents? Here parsley is planted as an herb, and man you have to water it, it needed more water than any other herbs I planted. I haven't tried cilantro here yet, but both would be tame or imported herbs, and not natural. We have not enough rain most times for those. Our weather is short growing season about 90 to 1000 days between last winter frost before spring first full moon of May ish and before first frost in August around end of Aug beginning of Sept. is when the tree leaves start to turn colour, and the first signs of night frost have arrived.
- That is cool about the senecio's so if only I could find pics of the sub-species I may yet be on the right trail... If I cut pics of the flowers out of my book and pics of the flowers I took and juggled them on the floor, one could not tell one from t'other.
- Look up more about Senecio integerrimus:
- Lambstongue Ragwort Very basal leaves, mine alternate up the stem.
- Senecio integerrimus Nutt. var. exaltatus (Nutt.) Cronquist has different leaves again, but the flowers go back to umbrellas.
- bloom May mine is blooming in late July early August. AGain basal leaves.
- 3 pics this pic starts to have leaves going up the stem, the other 2 remain basal. AGain flowers start to umbrella.
- many pics
SriMesh | talk 03:44, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, and yours had such round centers which were very prominent. You are looking so much more carefully at these than I did. There is no way I will argue with you when you decide what you have there.
- When I was first starting to attempt to identify the malva neglecta that grew here, there was a description that was close and made me think that I had found a rare one and I almost started to go in that direction because it felt so good. After taking a step back and reading about the more common ones, it became evident that I had the Common mallow and there were actually only two photographs here of the species. So, it was good that I didn't go with the great feeling thing. I got started with this because a few Senecio vulgaris grew here right after Christmas. Its not so easy when they don't come from a garden supply.... -- carol (talk) 06:35, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Comment
Thanks for your comments. Yes, those pictures are all my personal work, they are the natural outcome of my 2 great passions, travel and photography. As for the waterfalls (Iguazu), it's one of the most impressive sights I've had the chance to see of my life. Go see by yourself if you have the chance, the pictures does not renders true justice to the sight.
For your information, I'd like to point out that very few of my pictures would be able to make it through the FPC process IMO, since a lot of them suffers from sky overexposition and poor white balance. I'm still learning a lot about photography. I'm returning to South America in 1 week, hopefully, I'll have even better pictures to post.

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:28, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:05, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

This bird had been labelled black-capped chickadee, Poecile atricapillus, but I think it should be changed perhaps. Black capped chickadees are found throughout North America, southern Canada, northern USA. Black capped chickadees have black caps, white cheeks surrounding the eyes, black throats, greyish white underparts, and rusty flanks, dark grey tail. But, IMHO, this bird with azure blue crown, white cheeks and black or dark blue eye stripe going through each eye, yellow breast, back is greenish-blue, wings are blue with a white accents.. I think the image here is more similar to an immature Blue tit, Blue Ox-eye, Stonechat, Tom tit, Blue cap, Tit mouse and Blue bonnet Meantán Gorm Almost identical picture Cyanistes caeruleus [1] The Blue tit has a range across Europe.
- Hi,
- O.o : I didn't payed attention to the differents subcats for this little bird so I made a mistake. Category:Cyanistes caeruleus seems to be more appropriate.
- Thanks for your help.--Bapti ✉ 20:22, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Some info on Canadian copyright
Instead of muddling up a couple of deletion requests, I though I would talk to you directly. The reason you see Wikipedia so accepting of road signs in the United States is more liberal postion by the goverment that states all work of the federal government public domain and not subject to copyright, see Copyright status of work by the U.S. government. In Canada the government, represented as its legal entity The Crown, copyrights its work for fifty years. Canadian copyright law it its own, not the UKs, and covered by the Canadian Copyright Act. The Canadian Copyright Act does in fact allow photographs to include copyrighted item however it cannot be the focus, see Commons:De minimis#Canada. If we can get permission from the Government of Saskatchewan to cover all road signs that would be excellent, see Commons:OTRS on how to do that. In fact, that would be very helpful as I am currently looking to draw a full set of highway route markers, but I am concerned with copyright issues regarding the Saskatchewan Wheat Sheaf. You can join the dicussion about the highway markers here. Please don't take the deletion request personally, and if you have any questions feel free to message me.--Svgalbertian (talk) 05:20, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you for getting in contact with the Government of Saskatchewan.--Svgalbertian (talk) 20:09, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks again with getting in touch with the Government of Saskatchewan. Did you get permission for the wheat sheaf in the highway markers as well? Before I start adding the ORTS tag to other Sask road signs, can you email me the statement you received, I just want to verify everything is good. Cheers. --Svgalbertian (talk) 15:50, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

BaldEagle3862
I'd like you to know that I've decided to place the bald eagle photo BaldEagle3862 on the front cover of the action-adventure novel that I've written. With this in mind, I want to ask you if you'd be willing to let me know your real name so I can credit you properly on the copyright page, as I'm required to do by the terms of the Creative Commons license. (If you'd rather not give out your name, I could, of course, attribute you as "Wikipedia user SriMesh", but I think that would seem out of place.) Thanks! -- Danny 67.169.177.176 06:37, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Twillingate Religious Affiliation
I notice you have made a chart of religious affiliations for Twillingate. It is a useful addition to the article except that you have made a mistake that is confusing and might well upset some people. You list people as being either Protestant, Roman Catholic or Christian. Now, both Prtotestants and Catholics consider themselves to be Christians. So, it is unclear who you mean by "Christians" (maybe "Pentacostals", "Evangelical Christians", Baptists, or some other group or groups???), and it also implies that Protestants and Catholics are NOT Christian. Would you please adjust the chart so that it is accurate and will not offend people - otherwise it may well be removed from the article. Thank you, Sincerely, John E. Hill (talk) 17:14, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know...you would have to read Statistics Canada definition of their Religious classifications on the census...I didn't design the census myself....File:TwillingateReligiousAffiliation.jpg --> image The article had a tag on it to use images / charts instead of prose in that section...therefore the image.... "Old" hospital in Qu'Appelle Valley west of Fort
I just visited this photo of mine trying to figure out how I'd installed it, because I have more I want to put into another couple of articles on Papua New Guinea which are sitting in my Facebook account. And discovered that that photo came from you, not me! I feel like making an apology, though I never previously delivered the insult! I wish I could figure out again how to install photos in here though: for some reason the know-how has escaped totally, and I'm not nearly old enough to be justified in that failure! If I get really desperate I'm going to email a couple to you and ask you to do it for me in my hopefully temporary incompetence. Best regards, as previously and ever. "Masalai" in Wikipedia and apparently not now --if indeed previously -- having a user number in Wikimedia. I wonder how I could be one but not the other.
