This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Dean Roland.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Can I ask why this might be deleted? It's my own photo. I'd like to know what I can do to keep it up. Thanks. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 04:17, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This notification was added in 2019, before you uploaded the current version of File:Dean Roland.jpg. I assume that this notification was for a different file that you had uploaded earlier with the same file name. The current file is dated more recently so it is presumably a different image.
However, there are some issues with the current file. You have specified the author as "RetroReginald", which does not match your username "RetroSoulGirl". Are these pseudonyms for the same person? If so then please clarify this on the file page. If RetroReginald is somebody else then they should confirm the file's license by email to the Volunteer Response Team.
Your two other uploads have the same issue. File:Ed Roland.jpg has 'Author: RetroReginald' and File:Ed Roland At Eddie's Attic.jpg has 'Author: Brianna Hojnacki'. Is this also you?
Another issue is that the image resolution is relatively low and there is no camera metadata. These are both treated as indicators that a file may have been copied from a website. If you still have access to the original image file from the camera then I urge you to upload it (click on Upload a new version of this file on the file page). This would give reassurance about the origin of the file and it might make a higher-resolution version available. Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 04:53, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This makes sense- but for the file File:Dean Roland.jpg my old username was RetroReginald, then I changed my username to RetroSoulGirl soon after. I thought that my username would automatically change over on all my uploads, being still new to Wikipedia editing- I didn't know it didn't. Would I be able to to delete the file File:Dean Roland.jpg and reupload it again (even under a new name) or is it easier to try something else? Then for File:Ed Roland.jpg is just me with the previous username RetroReginald and File:Ed Roland At Eddie's Attic.jpg, well I decided I wanted to use my real name Brianna Hojnacki for the photo credit. I assumed my username would match the file with no issue. So ideally, I would actually like to have my name Brianna Hojnacki as the author of everything I create while still using the username RetroSoulGirl. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 07:11, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can specify the name to be used in attributions by using the template on the file pages. I suggest you change:
 • cc-by-sa-4.0
to:
Do not re-upload the files. You can change the user name shown on a file page by editing the page. Change RetroReginald to RetroSoulGirl. Or, if you are specifing the attribution name as 'Brianna Hojnacki', then you could use the syntax Brianna Hojnacki. This will display your name but will link to your user page – most experienced users will interpret this as indicating a alternative name.
To pre-empt questions about your multiple identities you could put a statement on your Commons user page (User:RetroSoulGirl) to clarify this. You are not required you reveal personal information. Verbcatcher (talk) 22:00, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I believe I updated all the files to User:RetroSoulGirl|Brianna Hojnacki. However File:Ed Roland At Eddie's Attic.jpg was always Brianna Hojnacki as the author but it linked to the user RetroSoulGirl. It's still getting removed off Wikipedia pages even though the image is a large resolution and it has all the camera metadata, too. Is there something else wrong with it? RetroSoulGirl (talk) 18:36, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your pictures have been removed from w:en:Ed Roland and from w:en:Dean Roland by an anonymous editor using a single IP address. Their reasons are unclear and that have only indicated 'invalid photo' in their edit summaries. Please persevere with the Wikipedia articles, and read w:en:Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. I would start by posting on the article talk pages, and ask the other editor to explain why the photos are invalid. If you get no valid response then add the photos again. If the other editor fails to engage in discussion but persists in removing the photos then you may eventually need to report the situation to the Wikipedia administrators, possibly at w:en:WP:ANEW, but you should first try to resolve the issue by discussion. It can be frustrating and slow, but if you keep calm and follow the process then it usually works. Verbcatcher (talk) 23:09, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, it just occurred to me that I have a longtime enemy who may be maliciously deleting these photos and trying to keep them off Wikipedia for her own personal gain. I don't have an exact way to prove this, but I noticed that even my Ed Roland At Eddie's Attic.jpg file was removed and it was an excellent photo for his page and met all the required specifications, as did Dean Roland.jpg. We had an argument on February 10th after remaining silent for years and I can see on that day this user has once again removed my photo, and right around the time we argued as well. Not to mention they are choosing to remain anonymous which can be suspicious and, they are mobile editing- I know this person doesn't even have a computer. To me it makes sense, but the most crippling evidence is that I tracked this person's IP address and it comes from Sanford, ME (I have this person's actual address and mailed her things when we were friends) and she lives in Sanford, ME! So, what can I do about this? If their account is removed, they could just make more accounts or even change their IP address. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 21:19, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is probably little you can do on the basis of your suspicions about the identity and motivations of the other editor. However, we should be able to prevent the images being deleted from the Wikipedia articles (unless there is a valid reason for them to be deleted). I posted a question about the deletions at w:en:Talk:Ed Roland#Deletion of photographs, and the deleter has not yet responded. If they continue to delete the photographs without engaging in discussion then I intend to report the situation to the Wikipedia administrators. An admin could then block all edits from a specific IP address, or could protect these articles from editing by anonymous and new users. Any block would initially be for a limited period, but could subsequently be escalated. Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 23:02, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's alright with me. Thanks! How long before you will report it to administrators if they don't reply? And what if the block is lifted after some time and they begin to remove the photos without an explanation again? Is that when the block would be escalated? RetroSoulGirl (talk) 23:29, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll probably report it on Monday (I'm in England and it's past midnight here). If the the same behaviour continued after a block was lifted then we would report it again and a longer block would probably be imposed, up to an indefinite block. Don't be too aggressive with re-adding the photos, see w:en:Wikipedia:Edit warring. This tends to inflame a situation, and an admin reviewing the case should review at the actions of all involved editors. Verbcatcher (talk) 00:44, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the photos are still in the articles tomorrow I may hold back from making a report. If and when do make a report I plan to disclose this discussion, in a spirit of openness. Verbcatcher (talk) 01:00, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Completely understood and thoroughly explained! I sent a more extensive, firm message to this user's talk page in hopes that it will encourage them to stop or explain. It might work. I also investigated history the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Roland article and found out that the anonymous user with the IP address 65.175.242.209 also derives from the exact same zip code as the user we're discussing above. And it's worth noting that both users never edited on either Wikipedia articles until I have, which once again leads me to believe they are the same person I know who is trying to harass me. But even so, we should probably just focus on the user with the IP address 216.246.144.248 as they are the one causing the current trouble.
I'll hold off on reuploading the photos for every couple of days and just observe. Thanks for all the help! RetroSoulGirl (talk) 01:40, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see they were blocked! Thanks for reporting. Should I try to upload the photos again or wait? RetroSoulGirl (talk) 20:31, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the photos to the article. I hope that the IP editor will try to delete them again and discovers the block, and that this convinces them that the Wikipedia community has found their actions to be unacceptable. If the same pattern of editing recurs in these articles, even from another IP address, then I suggest you leave a note on the user talk page of the administrator who imposed the block, at w:en:User talk:EdJohnston. Verbcatcher (talk) 21:00, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Thank you. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 22:44, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The imagine is mine. I took the photo and I uploaded it. I have all the rights to it. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 00:04, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As the photographer you own rights to the photograph, but the copyright owners of the album cover artwork shown also have rights to the photograph, see Commons:Derivative works. We assume that the copyright of an album cover is either owned by the record company or by the graphic artist who created the artwork. If you think a mistake has been made then you should discuss this on the user talk page of the administrator who deleted the file, in this case at User talk:Polarlys. Verbcatcher (talk) 00:28, 2 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File:Ed Roland At Eddie's Attic.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello. I am the photographer for this image, and its rightful owner and uploader. I've already gone through the necessary steps to prove this image is mine before. How else do I need to prove this image is mine? Thanks. RetroSoulGirl (talk) 05:14, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
