This image certainly looks like a Lemur catta and not a Eulemur fulvus collaris (which is now E. collaris now, BTW). - UtherSRG 20:46, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

You are correct (good catch) Raul654 20:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Ps - I have fixed it now. Raul654 21:20, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Image:Connochaetes taurinus albojubatus.jpg is a photo of the Common Eland (Taurotragus oryx). --Rooivalk 13:09, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

How

hi Raul,

I noticed your video on the main page. Do you use a windows based program to create ogg video? If so, which? tia, TeunSpaans 05:30, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes - I posted instructions here Raul654 05:40, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Also, since some people find the program (ffmpeg2theora) a bit daunting to use, I posted idiot-proof instructions here Raul654 05:41, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Orphan Images

Hi - thanks for all your great work here. I just noticed that you uploaded a lot of files that can currently not be found by others, because they are not categorized and on no gallery page. Uncategorized files are useles to others! Especially as an admin, please act as an example to others... thanks! -- Duesentrieb(?!) 17:25, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello Raul! Are you sure, that you really meant Marshallia graminifolia and not Marshallia grandiflora? According to Plants USDA, M. graminifolia is missing around Washington DC, whereas M. grandiflora is reported from Maryland - see [1]. Moreover, the images I found from M. grandiflora are more similar to your plant than the images of M. graminifolia. --Franz Xaver 15:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I've emailed the address the USBG has listed on their site. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon. Raul654 04:59, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, does this mean, the photo is from USBG? "Taken around Washington DC" does not sound like a photo from a botanical garden. This could also explain Image:Engelmannia peristenia.jpg, another species that has no natural occurrrence around Washington DC - see [2]. Regards --Franz Xaver 07:14, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, the pictures I took on that date include (but are not limited to) pictures I took at the USBG. Raul654 07:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks --Franz Xaver 08:20, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
The professionals aren't quite sure either, but appear to be leaning towards graminifolia (which is what it was labelled as) -- "I can see why there might be a discussion on this...I'll probably have to go back and look at it later when it's blooming...I'm not sure I have enough to go on right now. Grandiflora should have petiolate leaves; graminiflora not...these look to be without petioles. I'll check with the person who collected it and get his opinion." Raul654 15:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! So we will have to wait some more time, until the other person has been contacted. Anyway, in USBG both species are possible, as the origin of the plants need not be from nearby. For me, it seems difficult to decide, if there is a petiole or not. This is easier with broad leaves. One leaf - not very well developed - seems to be contracted into a petiole. --Franz Xaver 17:40, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Commons-l subscription

Hello Raul654,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:12, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Free music

Hi, I noticed you uploaded a bunch of free music with the source given as http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/. Unfortunately that site doesn't exist anymore! Has it been moved somewhere else? —Angr 06:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

If memory serves, the pages are still viewable through the internet archive (so if anyone gets antsy about the copyright, they can go there) but the music itself is more-or-less gone. As to the reasons - I haven't a clue. It's quite unfortunate - it was a very good source. Raul654 16:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Okay. I wasn't antsy about copyright; I was just looking for more free music! —Angr 16:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
What you are asking is very, very difficult. One lead I got was at Wikimania. I talked to the guy in charge of the Internet Archive, and told him the problem - that there is very little free music and most of what exists are either records made 80+ years ago (and, as a result, of poor quality) or performed by amatuers (again, poor quality). He gave me the contact information for a guy at IA who might be able to help, but I have not had the chance to follow up (I don't have the contact information rihgt now because I'm traveling).
