aerial imagery
[edit]https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mapathoner_demo.gif
What is the copyright status of aerial imagery used in this image? Is it maybe Bing where OSM has special permission not covering use in documentation? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:21, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't remember the imagery used. However, I know that I haven't checked the license (shame on me.) I've re-uploaded the version with the OpenAerialMap imagery and put the information to https://qeef.gitlab.io/mapathoner/. I'm not sure, how to drop the first version. Also, I think that I will have to review the rest of my uploads as it will suffer from the same problem. Thanks for pointing me out. Qeef (talk) 23:24, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Gampe (talk) 05:57, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks, I updated the categories, particularly I changed the category "Screenshot" to the categories "Programming tools" and "Screenshots of software". Hope it's fine now.
- Thanks again, Qeef (talk) 20:28, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
