Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them. Here's how: 1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense: 2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets". When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
Hi. If a user here makes a request for help, then if you don't help him then at least keep your fingers away from the request and do NOT delete it. This is unacceptable behaviour. The mails and messages we bureaucrats get per email or on our talk page are all not formatted and we still are able to read them. Just because we prefer a format to easier do our job it does not mean we deny somebody who simply did not know better. -- Cecil (talk) 09:58, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done mickit 14:08, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply] Hi, thanks for the quick move! The problem was that different files were uploaded under the same name. File:ThamnophilusMelanonotusWolf.jpg should actually exist, but it is this. See the first version (15:26, 19 May 2011) at File:ThamnophilusNigrocinereusWolf.jpg - that is the proper ThamnophilusMelanonotusWolf.jpg; can you restore this too? Many many thanks! Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 11:08, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply] Thanks for you work on {{Occupation/vi}}. One even more important template to translate would be {{CountryAdjective/en}} :)--Zolo (talk) 19:25, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
for the renaming of some of my files. Best wishes from --Gudrun Meyer (talk) 22:05, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply] Chào Prenn!
Hi, Dear Prenn! You just rename File "Lada 112 Coupe Tuned.jpg" to "Opel Calibra tuned.jpg". How do I can to do the same with uploaded by me files? I am asking for renaming of "VIS-2345.jpg" into "VIS-234500.jpg", "VIS-234700.jpg" into "VIS-234700-30.jpg" for punctual classification tuning. With best regards, --Kirill Borisenko (talk) 12:51, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply] Hello Prenn, its complicated to identify some houses on a map because of postal adress renumbering after land partitioneering. Can you please undo the renaming of the file ESA_Gothaerstr7_Bild1 ? Google Maps and some city maps of Eisenach shows the numbering of this area (Eisenach, Schützenstraße, Eisenach, Gothaer Straße) wrong. Unfortanly on the picture is no house number visibal on the wall. At last, I called a geoproxy database of thuringian land administration to clear this mistake. Result: shown is house "Gothaer Straße 9". Thank you. --Metilsteiner (talk) 15:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply] Hi! You are right about not favoring English. But I was trying to give it more descriptive name, especially mentioning the date and location. Hence The ruins of Trajans Bridge at the beginning of the 20th century, Romania. But if you can write all this in French, by all means. Mine is becoming rusty ;-) The way it is named now doesn't say much since there are multiple files with the bridge ruins.--Codrin.B (talk) 16:32, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That was quick! JonRichfield (talk) 05:38, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply] Many thanks for the help you are giving on new material etc. When you tag a page as "out of scope" can you please drop the appropriate template on the user's talk page please. It tends to help them understand our scope and prevent recreation (sometimes!). Regards --Herby talk thyme 08:58, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
