Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. Hello PerPlex,
Can I ask you NOT to revert images like the above into more generic categories? Commons has a cetagory scheme which places images only into the most specific category - If you think of a tree-root system, the stem is Wikipedia, New Zealand would be one of the main roots, then down, until your image is sorted into the most applicable branch root (Doubtful Sound).
By being in the Doubtful Sound category, the image already IS in the New Zealand category - because Doubtful Sound is, via some intervening cats, in New Zealand. Placing it back into New Zealand would, if all images were categorised so, clog that top category with images.
There is, in the future (once the software gets updated) likely going to be a function which will allow all images sorted into subcategories of (for example) New Zealand to appear in one virtual category showing all images of New Zealand (you can already do this here by searching for the category New Zealand, with a set level of depth of the subcategories].
Until then, please follow sorting policy and place your images into existing, most-specific possible categories. Thanks Ingolfson 06:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
:PS: You noted that the above image is from Wikipedia (your upload there, I assume?). The name ("800px-")shows that this is likely a reduced preview image. Can you upload the correct image instead, which will likely be quite a bit larger? Ask me if you do not know how (its done via the "upload a new version of this file" link at the bottom). Ingolfson 06:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, found the larger version and tagged this for deletion as a smaller, otherwise identical copy, as per Wikipedia policies. Cheers. Ingolfson 07:03, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Commons move of other image
[edit]And also, your Image:CavalliIslands.png transfer did not have the correct copyright info, nor the link back to Wikipedia. I fixed it via THIS tool, which allows you to transfer all the information over easily. You will also need to place a tab on the origin image on Wikipeda to make sure that it gets deleted eventually, over there. Cheers. Ingolfson 06:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:19, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

File tagging File:DowntownAucklandNight.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:DowntownAucklandNight.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:DowntownAucklandNight.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
