Hi Pokéfan95, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Thanks for fix my nomination

Your welcome :) Poké95 09:37, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi. It's possible replace the file abovementioned by another in all wikis automatically? We have no good pictures of the city to make a new collage. I want to replace by File:Vista da Alameda 31 de Outubro a partir do Bretas, Timóteo MG2.JPG and I did a request to the CommonsDelinker, but this was ignored. --HVL talk 20:31, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

There are no other ways to replace the file by another in all wikis automatically other than CommonsDelinker. There are insufficient admin volunteers in that page, so it may take a month before doing the automatic job. The only way to replace the file is to do it manually. Maybe I will do it. 12 pages seems to be no problem. Poké95 09:44, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
@HVL: ✓ Done. If you can remove the copyrighted image on the collage, please remove it. The collage will be kept if you will remove the copyrighted image. Thanks, Poké95 11:56, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! --HVL talk 20:55, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Re: Translation tables

Hello. I'm removing them because they are redundant. The categories already tell us what they are, for example: Rincón de la Victoria is categorised as a municipality in Málaga, so why would we need a template to say "Rincón de la Victoria is a a municipality in Málaga"? Also, they are all linked to the relevant articles in wikipedia. Regards, tyk (talk) 11:37, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

@Tyk: Hi, yes, they may be redundant, but this makes readers go to the bottom of the page (as you said it is already told by the category) to see what is that place (a municipality or province?). And some users may not see directly the Wikipedia links. That's why there is a description on the top, so it can be seen easily by users. It even has translations for those not native in English. Thanks, Poké95 11:45, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
We can't have a description on every language for everything, that's why we have categories and links to the relevant wikipedia articles. Besides, those templates I'm removing are old. They don't collapse and if the description is added in more languages they will take half a page. I'm trying to unify all the categories for municipalities in Spain along the lines of the categories for municipalities in other countries. --tyk (talk) 11:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
@Tyk: You have the point. I reverted my edits. I apologize if I reverted your edits. But next time, please explain in the edit summary for the edits you will do. Common causes of conflicts are empty edit summaries. You don't need to explain in the edit summary always, but it is strongly recommended for controversial edits and just recommended for others. Poké95 12:11, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I will do. Many thanks, Pokéfan95. --tyk (talk) 12:16, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Request for Help

My apologies for my mistake in trying to fix an error on my part. When I created the image file "SW Asia Memorial, United States Military Academy.jpg", I incorrectly titled it as the "SW Asia Memorial", when it actually should be the "SOUTHEAST Asia Memorial". I was contacted by a member of the Class of 1962 who asked me to rename the file correctly. In my attempt, I just made it worse. My apologies and I request that you or another admin change the name of the image to accurately reflect the name of the memorial.--Ahodges7 (talk) 11:53, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

@Ahodges7: I renamed your file. You should not apologize to me. Maybe you should apologize to Yann. Poké95 11:59, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Also, if you want your file to be renamed, use {{Rename}} to request rename. Thanks, Poké95 12:00, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

I posted the same message on his talk page. thanks for the help. --Ahodges7 (talk) 13:03, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

User:Sngag is author of this work. This is his statement, and if there are no denials, we have to believe him. He published this image under a free license. {{PD-Russia}} has no relation to this case. This photo was made himself in 1982, and he digitized it himself in 2001. --Kaganer (talk) 00:35, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

@Kaganer: As I said, the author is alive, so OTRS is necessary and required. It is an old image, and it is unlikely to be photographed by a Commons user. You may raise this concern at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard, and the OTRS members there will help you in your concern. Thanks, Poké95 09:35, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
You misunderstand the purpose of OTRS-service. Just notice it and try to understand better. --Kaganer (talk) 21:36, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
@Kaganer: I don't misunderstood the purpose of OTRS. The purpose of OTRS is to provide evidence that the author released the image under a free license. Not only that, the OTRS is also needed to verify if the copyright holder really wants to release their work under a free license. As I said, it is unlikely to be photographed by a Commons user, as it is an old image (1982), and it is possible that the author may be dead. Just a statement from a Wikimedia user is not enough, so OTRS is needed. As I said again above, OTRS is necessary for living authors. You misunderstood the purpose of OTRS. I request you to read again the OTRS page and raise this concern at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard (or contact an OTRS member, such as Yann). Thank you. Poké95 23:53, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

NOINDEX for copyvios

Shouldn't __NOINDEX__ be included directly in the copyvio templates instead of being added manually like this? --Stefan2 (talk) 14:05, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I already said that at Template talk:Copyvio, but no one seems to respond. So that's why I am inserting __NOINDEX__ on files that are copyvios using VisualFileChange while NOINDEX is not added yet in {{Copyvio}}. But it seems that Steinsplitter oppose my semi-automated edits that adds NOINDEX, his reason is that it absolutely no need to add NOINDEX on copyvios. But I think adding NOINDEX on copyvios will be beneficial because it will not appear in web search engines. I know admins are fast in deleting copyvios, but how if there is no response for 2 days? NOINDEX is used so they will not appear in search engines while they are not deleted by an admin. Thanks, Poké95 23:35, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
I think that it is a waste of time to add NOINDEX manually. In the time you spend on adding NOWIKI, you could have hunted down a file to tag with {{Copyvio}}. It could maybe be useful to have NOINDEX in various deletion templates. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:47, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
Noindex are set in metarobots. They are not synced to search engines in real time. Means: A robot (googlebot) has to look up them = No real time. Adding _NOINDEX_ is not needed imho. --Steinsplitter (talk) 09:39, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Okay, I understand. (But I hope there is atleast a faster response time in copyvios.) :) Poké95 09:42, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

__NOINDEX__

Hi, Please stop adding NOINDEX to other users talkpage and commons pages such as COM:UDEL. No need to add them. --Steinsplitter (talk) 09:17, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Okay. Poké95 09:26, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

license

OK, you tell me what information to use; wikipedia's instructions don't cover this kind of file, as far as I could see -

re:alcogif.jpg, uploaded 12/20/2015

the jpg is of a print (magazine, newspaper) advertisement most likely from the 1970s; the company (alco) that would hold copyright is no longer in business; the jpg was found on a bicycle user forum but they could not claim copyright — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyclopsga (talk • contribs) 14:29, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

@Cyclopsga: Is there no copyright notice for that print? If none, I think it would apply for {{PD-US-no notice}}. I will ask the VPC if they know whether the print is in the public domain or not. Thanks, Poké95 00:21, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
@Cyclopsga: The file will not be deleted anymore as me and Clindberg confirmed that the file is {{PD-US-no notice}}. I also uploaded a larger version of the file. Regards, Poké95 01:30, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

re:alcogif.jpg

is a print advertisement (magazine or newspaper) from the 1970s. The company Alco, who would hold the copyright, is no longer in business, so how the heck am I supposed to get any "permissions"?? the image came from a bicycle forum, who would have no copyright claim.

Cyclopsga (talk) 23:32, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

@Cyclopsga: No permission is needed, as it is already in the public domain, meaning, no copyright. Poké95 00:55, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

File:Xavier Robic

I couldn't find out the actual copyright, but the webisite I found it on (IMDb) called it a "promotional photo" which I interpreted to mean "free to use", but I couldn't find anything conclusive on the copyright status of promotional photos used by actors for hiring agencies. PsychoticSpartan123 (talk) 11:49, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

@PsychoticSpartan123: You need to ask permission from them to license their files under CC-BY (any version), CC-BY-SA (any version), CC0, FAL, or any other free license. After you got the permission, ask them to forward their permission to the OTRS. Thanks, Poké95 13:24, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Copyright free pics, how to use them

Greetings, I am wondering how could we use services that offer pics free of copyrights? For example, http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/ Thanks --Caballero//Historiador 21:20, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

@Caballero1967: Hello, I recommend you to ask at COM:VPC. I am not sure with those pics. But there are requirements for an image to be free:
  1. It must allow distribution/sharing/copying
  2. It must allow making derivative works
  3. It must allow commercial use
  4. It must allow to be used for all purposes (not "Wikipedia use only", "educational purposes only", etc.)
These conditions are ok:
  • Attribution
  • Share-Alike
See Commons:Licensing for more information. Thanks, and Happy New Year. Poké95 00:09, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Pokéfan95 Thanks! I am reading first and will submit a question if I am still not satisfied. For what I have read so far, the issue I am still having is with the acknowledgement to the picture's origin. I understand that whatever is donated to be used in WP should be available for everybody to use for profit or not, but what about a condition to recognize the artist/maker? Some of the comments revealed similar concerns, but have not found a definitive answer? This is my quandary: If I ask an artist to release his or her art for use in Wikipedia and the only requirement we have is to recognize the artist's work, can we accept it and use it in a WP article? Let me know, please, if you have some insight into this question. Otherwise, don't worry. I will continue looking for an answer, most likely with the people here: COM:VPC. Cheers, --Caballero//Historiador 08:20, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
@Caballero1967: You should ask them to agree that their images are allowed to be used for any purposes, not just only Wikipedia. For example, this DR is created because one of the staff of Flight said that he would be okay to use their files on Wikipedia. However, that is not a valid reason to say that the file is free. The copyright holder is just ok in using their files in Wikipedia, not everywhere (or every purpose). So you must ask the artist to license their files under a free license (such as CC-BY-SA), not for use in Wikipedia. Thanks, Poké95 11:22, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
@Caballero1967: Acknowledgement = Attribution. Although the artist's art will have one of the two conditions (Attribution and Share-Alike), it is still free, although not totally. But Commons still accept images that have the conditions Attribution and/or Share-Alike as long as they can be used for any purpose if the conditions are met. Those that are totally free from copyright are those in the public domain, and Commons also accept public domain images. Thanks, Poké95 02:56, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
To summarize, the conditions Attribution and Share-Alike are ok, as long as they can be used for any purpose (including commercial) when the conditions the author want are met. Poké95 03:02, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Dozens of no-source uploads

Hiya, I saw your note on the user's page, regarding https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/NGCZ - what do you think we should do about the dozens of no-source uploads that this user has put up so far? I'm not seeing a response to your note on that talk page. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:54, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: I saw one file of that user that has a source: File:Josef Vaclav Myslbek 20.6.1848-2.6.1922 - Navrh pomniku Bedricha Smetany.jpg. And it seems that all of the pictures of this user come from a museum. I believe that the pictures of the user is in the public domain. So I think I can use VisualFileChange to add the source in every file. I may do that tomorrow. However, some of the pictures are photographs, and we need the license of the photographer. So there is still a problem..... Poké95 09:56, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
One of the major problems is that this bulk uploader is not responding to messages, so anything added to his templates is only an assumption. I'd be glad if you used VFC to fix whatever could be fixed, but we also need to get the uploader's attention to not do this anymore. These are recent uploads, I don't understand why they're not replying. Thank you for staying on it! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:10, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Please do not leave a blank "source" field in an Information template when in fact source information is available. This is unconstructive and unhelpful behavior. AnonMoos (talk) 02:38, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
