Fordson or not?
[edit]I noticed you added the category Category:Fordson tractors to Image:Wood gasifier on epa tractor.jpg, Image:Epa tractor with wood gasifier.jpg and Image:Ford epa tractor.jpg, but are you aure they are Fordson tractors or did you just guess? Thanks for uploading Image:Lagonda.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - I copied this photo to Wikipeda Commons from the English Wikipedia. Already in the English original there is a "no source" notice. As I did not upload the original photo I cannot fill in the proper source information as I do not know it (most probably it should be "own work"). If it should be unlawful to keep this photo in Wikipedia Commons under these circumstances it will have to be removed. Sorry. --MartinHansV 22:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Jaguar Mark VIII
[edit]Dear Hans
Someone - I think you - marked this image of a Jaguar as being of a Jaguar Mark VIII (Mark 8). A colleague wikipedian suggests it was actually of a Jaguar Mark VII (Mark 7) because it has still a two piece windscreen and the trim round the front grill is somehow less chunky than on the Mark VIII. However, I am not an expert on these cars. If it was you who wrote Jaguar Mark VIII on the image, can you remember your source for naming it thus, please? I am trying to improve some of the anglophone wiki Jaguar articles, and there's a bit of a shortage of good pictures of cars from this far back. Mit freundlichen Dank im Voraus if you have any thoughts to share on this. Regards Charles01 21:08, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- In fact, the car shown on this photo most probably is not restored well as it contains both elements of the Mark VII (p.e. split windscreen) and Mark VIII (p.e. headlight and front bumper arrangement) models. The photos I compared this car with I retrieved from a booklet issued in Germany, called "Typenkompass Jaguar". Best regards, Martin --MartinHansV 08:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Empty categories
[edit]I noticed you marked a few categories as speedy because they are empty (example Category:Vehicles of Northern Ireland). In that case you can tag more than 1.000 found here Commons:Batch uploading/Geograph/cat-matrix. But they are a part of a preparation for a batch upload (Commons:Batch uploading/Geograph). If we do not create the categories before images are uploaded they will end up in a few very large categories. So categories should only be deleted if the can't be relevant. Like if there is no Mountains in Northern Ireland or whatever the reason might be. --MGA73 (talk) 19:28, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am also loading up photos to wikipedia-Commons, but I do not create any empty categories before. As soon as I upload a photo for a category which still does not exist I fill in the respective category which then will be a "red link" as soon as the upload procedure is finished. Then, by clicking on this red link I create this category and p.e. can file it under a more common category (p.e. "Vehicles of Northern Ireland" under "Vehicles of the United Kingdom"). Like this, no empty categories will be created which eventually make the category structure complicated without any use for the users. If there should be really thousands of empty categories, they defintely should be removed as soon as possible because, obviously, they are not needed! Best regards, --MartinHansV (talk) 11:13, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah but the bot is set to use excisting categories. Uploading will start as soon as Commons get new servers (more space is needed since Geograp has 1,5 mio. images). I would really hate to fix hundreds of thousands of images manually so I hope that we could live with some empty categories for a short time. --MGA73 (talk) 12:09, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- Of course, I did not know this. Please could you inform me when the server installation is planned to be finished and when, most probably, the missing images should be uploaded? Thank you very much in advance. Best regards --MartinHansV (talk) 16:31, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:BMC_B-Series_Engine_-_1622cc.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:BMC_B-Series_Engine_-_1622cc.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

--MartinHansV (talk) 07:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

File:Vauxhallsrv.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. File tagging File:Traralgon5.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Traralgon5.jpg.
Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Traralgon5.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Vielen Dank --Reinhard Kraasch (talk) 13:32, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Viele Grüße --Saibo (Δ) 01:21, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
--MartinHansV (talk) 07:11, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

File:Yenko Stinger & Stinger II.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.
If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Copyright status: File:Old Devonshire House April 1937.png
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Old Devonshire House April 1937.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello MartinHansV.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |
Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:36, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre: Hello, Magog the Ogre, you threatened me to have my account permanently blocked, because you think I repeatedly uploaded unauthorized data to WP-COMMONS. Unfortunately, this message does not contain any information about which file was the reason for this. Please inform me as soon as possible. Lately, I only transferred photos from the English WP (inclusive of their licences) to WP COMMONS, so that these can be used in the German WP as well. (I usually translate English articles about castles to German.) Should any mistake have occured in the process it did not happen intentionally and I apologize for it. Of course, I am aware that we have to follow copyright policy in order not to endanger the project. Many thanks in advance for your answer. Best regards --MartinHansV (talk) 09:55, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- It was this file, which you indicated was self-created. It was not; it was taken from English Wikipedia. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:14, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre: Many thanks for your answer. By the time I uploaded this file from en-WP to WP COMMONS it had a valid GFDL-Licence and a valid CC-BY-3.0-Licence plus was bot-flagged as "move to Commons", see here. You changed this in the aftermath. As demanded in the general file transfer instructions, I copied these two licences into the transferred file in WP COMMONS as well. (This is not to be understood that it was me who created this image, but it indicates that it was the original uploader who did it!) Please explain me, what was my mistake. Many thanks in advance. Best regards --MartinHansV (talk) 23:41, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- OK, I think I've figured this one out. It looks like you copied the wikitext, and then selected a license from the dropdown of the upload wizard. When you copy a license, you want to leave that dropdown alone, even though the page gives you a warning, otherwise it will insert another license. In this case, it was a license indicating that you are the author, which is not correct.
- This was compounded by the fact that the original description page did not have the author information, although it was probably the original uploader. This is why we recommend using a tool to generate the transfer text, not doing so manually (see #File:Liverpoolcastle.JPG). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:57, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre: Many thanks for your answer. What I actually did, was that I used the "simple form" of the transfer procedure which leaves an empty space for the text. Into this empty space I copied the original text from en-WP inclusive of the original licences. Then, from the licence choice underneath I chose exactly the same types of licence which were mentioned above. (Like this, both licences appear double in the resulting file.) What was wrong with this procedure? Many thanks in advance for your answer. Best regards --MartinHansV (talk) 10:26, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Viele Grüße, AFBorchert (talk) 12:02, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Freundliche Grüße --MartinHansV (talk) 12:23, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Lektüre: Archaeological Survey of Ireland, National Inventory of Architectural Heritage und das gemeinsame GIS. Viele Grüße, AFBorchert (talk) 12:35, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Sorry. Freundliche Grüße --MartinHansV (talk) 13:59, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

FileImporter
[edit]Hi! I noticed that you transfer files to Commons. You should try FileImporter :-) Using that you will move all versions of the file and all of the file history. That will make it easy for the original uploaders to find their files on Commons. It is super easy to use. Just go to the file you want to move then click the tab "Export to Wikimedia Commons" and if it looks okay then click "Import". Thats it! --MGA73 (talk) 17:02, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Gut Bannacker
Lombardi Grand Prix Abarth
Erremm (talk) 14:47, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
