Before spamming all those "Delete" tags, you'd better go to the URL stated as the origin of the file and read the licensing info.
On Delete Tags
[edit]This is Horcha who uploaded 3 Disoporum sessile pictures. Yes, you can delete them. I don't like your way, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) I made several mistakes on these pictures, so I decided to make new files, with correctly written PD template. Please kindly delete old Disoporum sessile photos from commons. --Horcha 14:29, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! You mentioned that there is no information about the author of this screenshot. In my edit I tried to explain the source of the screenshot. Meanwhile I contacted the author by email who definitely said, that he agrees to contribute this screenshot (and every screenshot on the given URL) under the GPL. What may I do to let you remove the delete-template? -- Gesus 00:19, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Tagging for deletion
[edit]Hi, please don't list images for deletion if the only reason is "no source"/"no license". These images should just be tagged as such. Install MediaWiki:Quick-delete.js for a quick way to do it. Stuff listed for deletion takes a lot longer to process and NSD/NLD doesn't really need discussion. Thankyou, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 12:23, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
OK. I added source information. Tom Edwards took those screenshots himself. Can you remove this tags from the images? Hołek ҉ 16:22, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Why am I thinking that he took the screenshots himself? Well, if screenshot cannot be found on websites and presskits (of course I'm still talking about CVGs), it has to be taken by publisher (in this case Tom Edwars). It is normal. Look at [1] and [2]. Why did he published the screenshots on English Wikipedia under fair use? Well, it is simple. He don't know about our arrengement with Ubisoft. Hołek ҉ 17:33, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:2000-census-reapportionment.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:2000-census-reapportionment.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. RFA
[edit]Shyam: I regret to inform you that your recent request for admin did not meet the criteria and therefore failed. This is not necessarily a permanent condition, however, as numerous of our present admins also had failures before ultimate success. Please address the concerns noted on your RFA and try again in several months time. Cary "Bastiq▼e" Bass demandez 17:49, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. I hope you are not to discouraged for failing you adminship requests. If you continue to do the right things, you will succeed in your next nomination. / Fred Chess 19:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I noticed you left a note on User talk:Electionworld about this image. I've just removed your delete tag. The image says on it that it is in the public domain. Kindly check this sort of detail before being paranoid about the copyright status of images. — OwenBlacker 20:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh sorry, I could not see the bottom line dictating Public Domain. I would be more careful in the future. Thanks for the message, Shyam (T/C) 04:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I deliberately blurred the face in this picture before uploading it so as to make sure that the personality rights of the subject (a minor no less) were respected. Although not a requirement of en.wiki, the need on Commons for images to be widely usable across jurisdictions seems to necessitate this... WjBscribe 03:55, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- If it is so, then respect your decision. But, you provide all the informations from enwiki image page, so before deleting the image on enwiki, image available on commons should be the same one available on enwiki. So I uploaded a new version. I do not have any problem if you want to use blurred one. Regards, Shyam (T/C) 13:01, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- I was asked to upload the image here by a user who wanted to use the image on Spanish Wikipedia. It seemed best to have a version here that can be used by projects that are bound by personality rights and keep the unblurred photo on English Wikipedia... WjBscribe 01:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Files by Arthur Rackham have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry. If you created these images, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. If the files are up for deletion because they have been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the files may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new files. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 01:46, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
