{{help me}} I am the subject of the article image that I uploaded from archival files for use in further developing certain Wiki articles. I was notified by Ies of a possible Copyright violation. Please can someone in the Wikimedia Commons community assist me in how I should properly upload the file and license it since this information is not in the electronically visible public domain. Should I for example license this as "Cavalier Daily" and classify it as Derivative Material? Thank ou for your assistance.

Copyright violations
Hello Mansoor Ijaz.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |
Yann (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hello User Yann
- Your admonition is misplaced. I have not knowingly or willingly violated any copyright rules of Wikimedia Commons or any other entity associated therein. In fact, I have done my utmost to correctly and credibly source each entry that was not from my personal archives. I have only added those images that I thought would improve the texture and understanding of written words in the articles I edit. Those images that were from my personal archives for which you added Deletion Requests on my Talk page have been directly justified with clear evidentiary statements in my responses to you on your Talk page.
- Would it not serve the Wiki community better for you to offer help BEFORE you make judgment, then to mark-up, delete and then after the fact offer your help?
- As a result of your wholesale deletion of everything I tried to do to improve the articles I have edited, I have decided not to use Wikimedia to upload anything until I have resolved my dispute with you directly with the editorial community. Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are supposed to be a collegiate exercise in helping each other, not mocking and not treating us as if everything we have done is wrong. I strongly object to what you did today - if this is what Wiki is all about, I no longer wish to participate in this project.
- One more point -- I asked for help on January 26th. TWICE!!! No one helped and no one gave any proper advice about how to do any of this. You of course had access to the same HELP request as anyone else visiting my Talk page to see that I was having some difficulty understanding the rules and wanted clarification. You certainly did not help me then, nor before you took your hostile actions today without even trying to understand my rationale in how I chose the licensing of each upload. I again ask, what agenda do you have against me, and from what source does your bias arise?
Copyright and permission
Hello,
You must not upload images and documents from third parties without a proper permission. You need to provide a source and a license for any third party image and document. Please ask me if you need for help. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:07, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hello,
- I have nothing personally against you. I simply add tags to files which I think have a copyright issue. Anyway the final decision to keep or delete the files will do taken by another admin, usually after one week.
- Images and documents from the US governments are probably OK, but you need to provide the proper license (usually {{PD-USGov}}). Best regards, Yann (talk) 16:45, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, please change the license in the description pages. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:41, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- The license seems OK now, but you should also fix the Author, source and date fields. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:31, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, please change the license in the description pages. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:41, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Re:Help
Hello Mansoor ljaz,
I wanted to ask if you still need help? I must admit that I now next to nothing about the help templates, but I had a license problem in January and learned that Commons:OTRS is the place to ask for help/clarification in case of license discussions. You can send them the authorisations/licenses you have for the files in question and they will tell you if it's enough for commons or if more would be necessary (and what exactly would be needed - sadly it was not possible to get that permission in my case).
Hope that helps and that you are not too frustrated with commons, Anna reg (talk) 10:28, 17 February 2014 (UTC) ;->
- That is indeed the correct place to learn more on how to provide information about the license for the uploads. Mbch331 (talk) 18:21, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Hello, You can't delete a file. Only admins can do that. But you can upload a new version over the old one: go at the bottom of the description page, click on "Upload a new version of this file". Regards, Yann (talk) 05:34, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Two file restored, tickets added. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:39, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:IJAZ Monaco Grand Prix, May 2013.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:IJAZ Monaco Grand Prix, May 2013.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Reasons for deletion request: content no longer in use after edits to Article Mansoor Ijaz --Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 00:23, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- "No longer in use" is not a valid reason for deletion. If the pictures are free and respect privacy and do not break other Commons rules, they should remain in commons for potential future use. Commons is not only the repository for other wikimedia projects. Ankry (talk) 07:36, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, not in use is a contributing consideration whether images may be courtesy deleted. Any of the personal files should be delted as such if not done so out of concerns for this person's desire for privacy. I don't think he really cares for the ones from other sources so long as his name is removed, as is his "right to disappear". Saffron Blaze (talk) 18:40, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Keep Most of them are used now. Taivo (talk) 11:35, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Keep I am requesting that the images be kept and my deletion request be removed/no longer considered. A number of Wikipedia editors and I have now worked together for the past 10 days to completely re-write an article in which many of these images either appear or appeared (or are now embedded as links in the text). I would therefore ask that the Wikimedia administrators leave all images intact. Thank you. --Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 06:10, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:2000.08.17 KASHMIR Sayed Salahuddin Letter to Clinton on Peace Offer.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File source is not properly indicated: File:Robin Raphel, USCC.png
This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Robin Raphel, USCC.png, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:Robin Raphel, USCC.png]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

@Ww2censor: Thank you for your comment and request. I uploaded the image from Flickr at the following web address: [1] I am currently editing article Robin Raphel and needed a proper image for the Infobox officeholder. I did partially crop the image before uploading to remove unknown persons in the background. While I did not present the web page address from Flickr in my initial upload (this was an oversight), the author information is correct as annotated on the Flickr web page, including time and place of the photo being taken. Other images of the subject available from official U.S. government sources (such as her State Department ambassadorial photo) simply did not have sufficient resolution for use in the article. I have hopefully fixed the problem. If there is still a deficiency, please let me know. Thanks, --Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 12:06, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Ww2censor: I managed to figure out how to use the Flinfo tool, and then tried to upload the original image again using the tool. It would not allow since the image is "All Rights Reserved" on Flickr. This means I presume that the image will be deleted. I then uploaded a second image with "Some Rights Reserved" on Flickr, and the Flinfo tool allowed the upload and tagged the image with a request for a reviewer to check the license. Hopefully I did it right the second time. Still learning, so apologies for the mistake. --Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 12:50, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

We take copyright status very seriously and aftre you provided the source we could determine that it had a licence we don't accept. Sorry. Ww2censor (talk) 20:50, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Ww2censor: No problem, I understood the mistake when I used the Flickr bot to upload another image. Please feel free to delete at your convenience. I have replaced the image in the subject article already with a properly licensed photo. --Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 21:00, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, so you know the drill now. That image will be deleted by an admin in due course. Ask me any questions if you need. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 21:03, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

File:Ahmed Shuja Pasha, January 2003.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
