License Review

I really ask me why I created a bot and went through the bot-approval process. Commons:Bots/Requests/IndareviewR -- RE rillke questions? 18:58, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Because you wanted to help I guess :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:00, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
You could at least have had a look at Commons:Bots/Requests or Commons:Bots/Work requests. Did the bot or script you run under your normal account check the licenses and authors? Regards RE rillke questions? 19:01, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I asked User:Betacommand more than a week ago about reviewing images with a bot and some days ago he made a list of images that was 100 % the same but there was an issue with the license of some of the images. So yesterday I prepared a list to work on today. I did not know you had made a bot to work on the images when I started reviewing today. I check the license and the author. So far all authors was correct and the license was ok in 99,5 % of the cases. If your bot is ready to run you may review the rest. --MGA73 (talk) 19:18, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
The bot approval-process seems to take some time. The community should review the bot, but there aren't a lot of community-members on the bot-approval page. So free to review the images since I can't until it passed the "review process". -- RE rillke questions? 19:22, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Undeletion request

Would you mind undeleting File:Angel Crest Cemetery Porter County Indiana.jpg? Last month, the image was discussed at en:WP:PUF, and it was concluded that this is a case of de minimis, since the photo is of the cemetery, which happens to include the statue, and the statue isn't at all the focus of the image. Nyttend (talk) 01:05, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Done. --MGA73 (talk) 09:44, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
File:Boratto1.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

It looks like some Indafoto images mentioned by Samat should be reviewed manually. Feel free to review them before the license changes again. I don't have the Indafoto template to mark them unlike ipernity, picasa or panoramio and only have the flickr reviewbot. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:56, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

This is 'cc by 2.5 generic' now on Indafoto although Samat made a response to your ARR mark:

Here are some photos which so far haven't been marked on the list given by Samat. Maybe someone will mark them when you get this message...I don't know.

There may be more photos as I just checked some of the photos on the long list. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:43, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

OTRS ticket discussion

Hello, I started an OTRS ticket discussion regarding Cinefundas at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#Cinefundas_OTRS. I forgot to notify you earlier (you are the OTRS owner). I'm a little concerned about the ticket itself (we've ignored those from two websites before Kollywoodtoday and Bollywoodblog) as they had similar problems (the latter was the result of about three months of discussions on en.wiki and with the site while the former just had DRs associated with the images). I wasn't entirely sure where this discussion should be, if you think it should be at the OTRS wiki instead, let me know and I'll open it there. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:29, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice. No here on Commons is just fine :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:32, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Would you like to mark this image which no one has wanted to mark for several days? The flickr account owner says "ARR" at the end of the short movie (c.23-30 seconds) but he licenses it as 'cc by generic' on flickr. Computer Hotline also told him about the picture's use here on the flickrlink and he just said 'cool.' All the trusted users are too scared to mark it...as am I. I marked another image from thsi source but maybe an Admin should mark this one? Just curious. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:43, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Please STOP immediately that completely misleading categorisations respectively transfers !!

(just) on November 7, 2011, i re-categorized about 200-300 completely misleading categorisations (a 'typical' example) of your transfers (dd. Nov. 6/7) from Wikipedia's to Wikimedia commons, as reported more then a year ago before, again and again :-(((( And, please, no repeated references to the categories proposed by another xxxx bot, Roland 19:15, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

First of all I would like to thank you that you do a lot of work to fix categories. I'm really happy that you do. Some find one or two files and then complaint. 200-300 files before you came here is really impressive. So thank you very much!
I'm sorry that the bot messes up in some cases. I would ofcourse hope that the categories was always correct but sadly that is not the case. I have 2 alternatives: 1) Let the bot try to find the best categories or 2) Remove all categories and let add an Uncategorized instead. If I choose the first option some files will have perfect categories, some will have a to general category but still not directly wrong, some will have a wrong category and some will have no category at all. If I choose the second option then all files will have no category. Do you think option 2 is better? Or do you have other suggestions?
Info: The files I'm moving at the moment is a "help hi-wiki clean up their files"-project. --MGA73 (talk) 19:58, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
help hi-wiki is a good idea. That project has a lot of copyvios, they have a lot of untagged (possibly fair use) files and they make use of fair use tags on e.g. press photos of people far beyond the scope of foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy #3. Thanks for doing this work. --Martin H. (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah more than 1.000 files are deleted so far :-) --MGA73 (talk) 21:33, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, and thank you for your answer respectively information - guessed that Hindi- and Kannada-Wikipedia related media have been mass-transferred, honestly getting frustrated ...
What about option 3 ?!
Some people don't prefer to have files 'uncategorized' - personally i would prefer that option ... but:
Files of "India" related wiki's you may, instead, categorise as p.e. Category:Unidentified locations in India, and from time to time, i'll try (maybe some other 'enthusiasts'??) to categorise those media as accurate as possible ...
Regards, Roland 21:53, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
All the India related files are uploaded for now so no more files should be uploaded at the moment. It would be nice if there were other users than just you and me that would help. Your idea of Category:Unidentified locations in India is not bad at all. But it will not be today. I'm to tired now and will most likely just make it worse... --MGA73 (talk) 22:02, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, as you did "option 3" on Nov. 9, 2011, please categorize ONLY Category:Unidentified locations in India, and not as p.e. that wikipedia {mass} transfer, thanks, Roland 18:52, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I found another user that has uploaded a lot of files from India. The reason I added more than one category was that I knew it was a temple but not where in India. I thought doing it this way there was 2 chances that someone found and fixed the category. --MGA73 (talk) 19:04, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
So when you do like this the file is no longer categorized as a temple. I asume you put a temple category back on later? Another way was to remove Category:Unidentified locations in India and leave the temple category if you do not like it that there is 2 categories on the file. --MGA73 (talk) 19:09, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, please read 'my' "option 3", i'll categorize all those India-related wikipedia {mass} transfers later as accurate as possible - don't really have so much time for fixing your bot's, hmm, "amok-transfers" :-( Thanks for "respecting" my oppinion, Roland 19:21, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
I did read it. And I do not think there is any harm in files having the temple category on it. But it is really nice that you take care of the files :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:23, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
For the very last time, please, p.e. that "amok-categorization" :-(((( >>>>> Category:Unidentified locations in India <<<<< Roland 00:15, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
I did that here and still you complaint in the edit summary!?! And how many images with "bad" categories was it this time? 1, 2, 5, 100? --MGA73 (talk) 16:09, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) As far as I know I moved 2 files to Commons from hi-wiki and both files was added to Category:Unidentified locations in India. --MGA73 (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
as mentioned: >>>> p.e. that "amok-categorization" (one of around more than 50 on December 2011 <<< Roland 21:26, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
I checked around and it turns out that the 428 files here are related to India. Once they are all uploaded I can have my bot to move them all to Category:Unidentified locations in India. It will only take a few minutes. So just leave the files for now and they will be fixed. --MGA73 (talk) 21:32, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Before, take notice that around 100 are already 'fixed' on December 18 and avoid a lot of work, once more, Roland 21:41, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Ok. Thank you for fixing that... I will see if I can find a good way not to remove categories on files you have allready checked. --MGA73 (talk) 21:42, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello, MGA73!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Is this image OK with no COM:FOP problems since its in Russia? I notice there is a category for this hotel but doubt its even 70 years old. PS: According to one of the cats here this hotel was built in 1979 and its not a generic looking building at all. Its very distinctive and should be subject to copyright. So all the Cosmos hotel images should be deleted but one...where De Minimis can apply. But you should decide since this picture (above) was uploaded by an Admin. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:45, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

I may remember wrong but as far as I remember the Russian Wikipedia is discussing the FOP issue with the government and if all goes well they will allow FOP. But as long as rules are not changed then FOP may be a problem. Personally I would put it on my to do list and choose to work on some of the other tasks first. Like reviewing files etc. :-) But if you find any close up files feel free to tag them. --MGA73 (talk) 13:42, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Sammenlægning af kategorier

Hej MGA73

--MGA73 (talk) 15:59, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

I had hoped that Zscout would have checked the files after they were moved to Commons. I cleaned up a bit. --MGA73 (talk) 18:18, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

12 millionth picture

Is there anything special about the 12 millionth picture on Commons. I don't know where one finds these images. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:18, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Not sure if that is a milestone. --MGA73 (talk) 20:40, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
