January requests

[edit]

Hi,

I hate to ask you for favors here on Commons, but since I'm blocked from Wiktionary, I've little choice. (Per w:WP:PROXYING, I am allowed to make edit requests to you, but you would make sure that it is correct since any responsibility of the edit and its content is more on its doer than its requester.)

1. Can you tell me if 先を行く (さきをいく, saki o iku) is an idiom or just sum-of-parts?

2. Can you please update all the names listed at さゆみ (Sayumi), along with 真実世/真実代 (Mamiyo) and 亜実子 (Amiko), so that they use ? (The page さゆみ itself needs to have 小結実, like most other hiragana given names, while まみよ and あみこ are redlinks.)

3. Can you edit しまだ (Shimada) so that it has 島田 ja, please? (島田 also needs for its second Japanese definition, and 嶋田 needs its yomi. Besides, 小浜 needs its second Japanese definition changed to .)

4. Can you please put 漕ぐ in Category:ja:Rowing and Category:ja:Cycling? Meanwhile, 老い子 needs Category:ja:People, 年老いる and 老い need Category:ja:Age, and 老爺 needs both its yomi (oyaji- kun, rōya- on'yomi) and Category:ja:Male family members added.

5. Can you please make 小学生 (shōgakusei), 中学生 (chūgakusei), and 高校生 (kōkōsei) link to each other (they're all coordinate terms) and ensure that the latter two pages are in Category:ja:Education and Category:ja:People and have their etymologies (they're compounds formed in the same way as the first of those 3) added?

6. Lastly, can you please add the etymology to 特許法 (tokkyohō) and make 特許 (tokkyo), from which it's derived, link to it? Besides, じんぼう should link to the surname 神保 (a redlink), the redlink さんじろう should link to the male given names 三治郎 (also a redlink) and 三次郎 (not a redlink), and the redlinks 伊能 (いのう, a surname) and 忠敬 (ただたか, a male given name) need creation.

Thank you SO very much! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:25, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1. Because you can guess the meaning from literal meanings of individual words (-ahead, -accusative case particle, 行く-to go), I don't think it is an idiom.
2, 3. Done. I also added the pitch accents without the references.
4. Done. Oyaji reading is an alternative spelling of 親父 and it is used less commonly than 親父. Rōya reading means old man, so I changed the definition.
5, 6. Done.
Thank you for requesting me. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 20:32, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
One other thing: can you please add the quote (from Kohmi Hirose's 1998 single "Groovy!")
  • Brand-new love song ハレハレルヤ!
    みんなハジけて愛し合おう
  • Brand-New Love Song HARE HARERUYA!
    minna HAJIkete aishiaou
  • "Brand-New Love Song Halle, hallelujah!
Everyone, let's just go wild and love each other"
to 為合う? (The lyrics contains the volitional form of that word, written as "し合おう".)
In addition, you might also want to do any yet-to-be-completed edits I've requested of Eirikr in December 2022 and January 2023. (Eirikr did fulfill all my requests made prior to December 26th, but hasn't fulfilled any of my newer requests. No, I'm not holding it against him.) Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:07, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think this quote should be added in the suffix section of 合う, because 愛し合おう is composed of 愛し (a continuative “連用形” form of 愛する or 愛す) and 合おう (a volitional form of 合う), not 愛 + し合おう. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 11:43, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Anyway, that quote does need to go on the pages for みんな and 弾ける (hajikete is an inflection of the latter's "to party" sense).
In addition, I've noticed that 春一番 (haruichiban) is clearly a compound of 一番 (ichiban) and (haru), but neither of the first 2 pages reflect this. (Both of those need Category:ja:One added, I think.) And there's this word 大事件 (daijiken) that means "major incident" and is an antonym of 小事件 (which is also a Chinese word). Both of those two are redlinks, and 事件 (jiken)'s Japanese section needs to link to both. Also, 泡を吹く and 吹く should link to each other. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 13:53, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 04:32, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February requests

[edit]
Now for this stuff: should be unified (that is, merging Cantonese/Mandarin to Chinese and adding Template:Han etym), while the redlink 柴辻 is a Japanese surname read as "Shibatsuji" (しばつじ).
And the redlink 諸星 should be created using:

----

Also, the Russian words сумасброд and сумасшествие are related to the idiom сойти с ума (see сумасшедший). Besides, jn-ḥrt should be in Category:egy:Gods, fielleseocnes should be in Category:ang:Pathology, and いちばんのり should have its etymology (and ja) added to show that it's a compound of 一番 and 乗り.
Lastly, there's the Chinese redlink 周章狼狽, a compound of 周章 and 狼狽, and which is a chengyu meaning "to panic"; it's also a Japanese yojijukugo read as しゅうしょうろうばい (shūshōrōbai) meaning "consternation; falling into a panic; fluster; confusion; dismay; discomfiture".
And be sure to use Shāntián Tàiláng next time you tell me "done"! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:13, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Shāntián Tàiláng:
1. , 柴辻, 諸星, 周章狼狽: Done.
2. сумасброд, сумасшествие, сойти с ума, jn-ḥrt, fielleseocnes: I am not familiar with these languages, so I would like to decline to edit them. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 23:55, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK, maybe you can get WT editors with a better command of those languages (like maybe? PUC) to do those Russian, Egyptian, & Old English edits. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:54, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A few other things-- 飾件 needs Appearance added, and there's the Chinese redlinks 㟃峿 (see 六一居士 (Liu Yi Jushi, a nickname for Ouyang Xiu) and 六一詩話 (one of his poetry collections, filed at d:Q18897558). And 詩話 really needs a "Derived terms" section with (since it's a component of the word 六一詩話) and Poetry (because, well, look at its definition).
And it seems you forgot to add the Chinese section to 小事件.
Besides, 三清山 needs , 巴顏喀拉山 needs , 紫金山 needs Mountains and links to its alternative names 北山 and 鍾山, 八公山 should have the additional definition and its alternative name 北山, 天台山 needs Category:zh:Places in Zhejiang, 奧林匹斯山 (which 奧林匹斯 should link to) needs Template:place and Mars (planet), and 九華山 needs . In addition, there's the redlink 㟃峿, which should have and a "See also" section with 峿山. 峿山, in turn, needs its definition changed to (yes, "Anqiu" as in 安丘).
And 九華帳 (which 九華山 should probably link to) needs links to "multicolored" and "tent" along with Nine. (Yes, a tent is a building. See, yurt is already in Category:en:Buildings, but tent is sadly not. And kibitka really needs and Category:pl:Road transport.)
By the way, is it possible to change the Template:zh-pron parameters in 佢哋 to

so that it will have a Mandarin pronunciation but won't be in any Mandarin categories, like when you have the parameter "nocat=1" in Template:compound for, say, Gosnell coming from .
And finally, I am quite curious about the meaning of 嚚猾. (Oh, and ngan4 should link to , 峿 should link to 㟃峿, and needs its Chinese definition fixed to use proper formatting and wikilinks, while pers. comm. really needs its etymology and the appropriate categories. Don't forget that パソコン is wasei eigo just like ファミコン, even though the former is still a clipping of パーソナルコンピューター.) Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 18:09, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, 魔鬼身材 needs Appearance while 障子 needs its Chinese section, and sliding door needs Category:en:Architecture. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:41, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should also add to Accrington's etymology section "Equivalent to en." Thanks! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:47, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And by the way, the romaji Shibatsuji and Morohoshi (from before) are still redlinks. Also, you forgot to add the etymology to 居心地 when you edited it earlier. (A quick look at its kanjitab told me it was a compound of 居 and 心地, with rendaku.) Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:57, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's 冥鈔, which should be in , I think. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 18:47, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that それにしても should link to switching gears or perhaps to regardless; besides, its quote should have its bolding fixed and contain a link to 暑い. (Also, the words "in any case" and "nevertheless" should have それにしても added as a Japanese translation.)
And パーキングエリア needs to link to ja area; both パーキングエリア and パーキング need Category:ja:Road transport (and the English words parking & parallel parking also need Category:en:Road transport, while pinda's English section needs en in its "Etymology 2" section).
Meanwhile, chute dogging needs Category:en:Sports, chute house needs Category:en:Buildings and a wikilink to "coal", coal burner & pulverizer both need Category:en:Machines, and brazier needs (which reminds me, 火盆 and 炭盆 also need Fire).
And maybe you can ask around and see if Swahili kipindupindu "cholera" is related to pinda "to bend" (as strongly suggested in this book), because kipindupindu really needs sw added. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:22, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and also-- 寝返る needs its etymology added (it is a compound of ) along with its first definition changed to "to change the direction of the body while sleeping; to toss and turn" and Category:ja:Sleep added.
一匹狼 should link to 一匹 and 狼.
木之本 needs its Chinese section added using .
さくらこ needs its definition to be consolidated to 桜子 ja.
絵日記 needs , along with a picture added using .
警鐘 should link to "firebell", be in Category:ja:Firefighting AND Category:zh:Firefighting, and have a Synonyms section added with * 火鈴 at Zen temples.
wikt:firebell should link to "alarm bell" rather than to "alarm" & "bell" separately, and needs a Translations section added with
fire alarm bell
* Finnish: fi
* Japanese: , at Zen temples
trans-bottom

en
火鈴 should have its definition changed to firebell a small bell used at Zen temples to warn against fire, and it also needs Category:ja:Firefighting added.
明視 should be in Category:ja:Vision, while くにこ needs the readings 国子 國子 久仁子 added and created (they're all redlinks).
Lastly, 作曲家 needs synonym コンポーザー and categories added, and its etymology should preferably be changed to .
I'm CC'ing @Tooironic: and @Eirikr: on this, to see if the three of you combined can work together to get those edits done ASAP. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:46, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just remembered-- ふじたか needs to be created with
# 藤隆 ja
# 藤高 ja
. (Also, 藤隆, 藤孝, and 富士貴 are redlinks.)
Cheerio! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 20:57, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Something for today: I know you don't do Navajo entries, but I've noticed that jeeʼiighááh ("earwig"), which has an etymology request on its page, is VERY clearly a compound of jeeh ("into the ear") and iighááh ("goeth out of sight" or "goeth in")
And bilagáana tʼáá biʼałkʼiijééʼ also has an etymology request. The first two words are self-explanatory, but the third, biʼałkʼiijééʼ, is a redlink. Anyway, I'm sure it's a compound of bi- and the redlink ałkʼiijééʼ ("they attacked one another"). There's also the fact that ałkʼidą́ą́ʼ ("long ago; formerly") is suffixed with -dą́ą́ʼ and is probably a cognate of Western Apache ałkʼidą́ʼ ("already"), and should be in Category:nv:Past.
Cheerio! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 23:31, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to say, you do NOT have to create the redlinks biʼałkʼiijééʼ OR ałkʼiijééʼ. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 23:34, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Tʼáá Bííchʼį́įdii needs to link to tʼáá and chʼį́įdii (the last of which should also link to Tʼáá Bííchʼį́įdii). Besides, its etymology is mentioned at Yah-ta-hey, New Mexico, but not on its Wiktionary page.
Hey, @The cool numel and PUC: maybe you can pitch in to help with these edit requests as well? I'd greatly appreciate it. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 23:47, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya Lugria @Eirikr and Mar vin kaiser: こうへい really needs 耕平 added. 耕平 is a male given name like some of こうへい's other kanji spellings, but it's also a redlink; would you do me a favor & create that?
Also, 名古屋's entry has ja in its etymology section when it SHOULD have "possibly from 和やか (nagoyaka)" instead, just as Nagoya's English Wikipedia page states.
Have a nice day! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 14:38, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The origin of Nagoya seems a bit more complicated. I've listed the leading theories over at wikt:名古屋#Japanese. — Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 04:39, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

March requests

[edit]

Attention Lugria and @Qehath: שרף should be in , while גאה should be in Category:he:LGBT. Thanks! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 15:14, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, @Eirikr: 乗り越える is CLEARLY a compound of 乗る (well, technically, its ren'yokei form 乗り) and 越える, and all three pages should be edited to reflect this.

In addition, @Eirikr and Fish bowl: プリシュティナ's, プリンストン's, アイスプラント, and プリクエル's romanizations are redlinks. So is the romanization of プリティー, an entry that also needs to be in Category:ja:Appearance. ぷりぷり needs Category:ja:Emotions, while プリント needs Category:ja:Printing. Also プリンスエドワードアイランド needs both its romanization created and to link to プリンス (which also needs ), エドワード, and アイランド. All 3 of those component words should also link to プリンスエドワードアイランド. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:43, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lugria, @Tooironic, Mar vin kaiser, and PhanAnh123: On English Wiktionary, 承天順化 should have instead of . Yes, 承天 may be a redlink, but it is the Sino-Vietnamese of Thừa Thiên.
Also, 順化's Chinese section needs to have a "Derived terms" subsection added using .
And why does Thừa Thiên have vi? That should be vi instead.
Meanwhile, cảm kích should be in Category:vi:Emotions, while should be in Category:zh:Horse tack.
And while you're at it, be sure to create 承天 in both Chinese & Vietnamese! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 17:13, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eirikr, Mar vin kaiser, Fish bowl, and Tespi40: One last thing―次第, 次第に, and 次第次第に should all link to each other (since the 3rd term is a compound of the 1st & 2nd terms, and the 2nd term is the 1st suffixed with "に").
Meanwhile, all the entries currently located in the categories Japanese terms spelled with 次 & Japanese terms spelled with 止 (except for 静止 which already has its readings, and 乎古止点 which simply needs its yomi for 止 changed from "irregular" to "kun" & its pronunciation sections merged) really need their kanjitab templates improved (for instance, 次第次第に needs & 避止 needs ).
Have a nice day! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 18:58, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ND381: 甜蘆黍, 蘆黍, and 高粱粟 should all be in wikt:Category:zh:Grains. And 民事 needs a link to 民事訟案 (a redlink meaning "civil suit"). (I'd do all that myself if I weren't blocked from English Wiktionary. 🙁) Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 19:09, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also! @ND381, Tooironic, Theknightwho, and Atitarev: 蘆黍 (which I mentioned earlier), 玉蜀黍, and 玉茭子 ALL need to be in Category:zh:Maize (plant).
Here's to hoping that all of you can catch up on fulfilling all my unfulfilled edit requests on this page!!! Thanks a million!!! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 15:37, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another― no, a bunch of other things― @Mar vin kaiser, Fish bowl, Tespi40, and Theknightwho: (PLEASE tell me if you don't want me pinging you): はたけちがい has a link to the WT:SOP redlink "area of expertise". That should just link to "area" and "expertise".
Besides: 後ろ歩き is a compound of 後ろ and 歩く,
歩き回る is a compound of 歩く and 回る,
and 打ち勝つ is a compound of 打ち and 勝つ.
ALL of those pages should be edited to have either a "Derived terms" section containing the relevant compound word, or an "Etymology" section with Template:ja-compound.
(Also, 打ち見る needs its etymology section AND for 見る to link to it; 打ち already has that link.)
Is うしろめたい derived from 後ろ, as its alternative spelling "後ろめたい" would indicate? If so, where DOES the "めたい" (metai) part come from??
The redlink 後ろ明き (うしろあき, ushiroaki) is a compound of 後ろ and 明き/空き (as the former reflects but not the latter), and it means "clothing with the opening at the back", such as 後ろ明きの服 (ushiroaki no furu), "a dress which buttons or zips down the back".
The entry 仕える should have that Vishwa Randi quotation from 戦士 added to it, since that word is translated as "to work" (and with に meaning "in", not "to") in the quotation. And 二君に仕える really needs to link to に and 仕える, while 後ろ姿 needs its etymology (a compound of 後ろ and 姿) section added, and 路面 needs to be in both Category:zh:Roads AND Category:ja:Roads.
Lastly, Lugria and @Eirikr: Why haven't you yet made those edits to the terms 乗り越える & 乗る & 越える like I asked 22 days ago?? I hope you haven't muted me or anything!

PS: Don't forget that the Chinese section of 美少女 needs its categories changed from Appearance to Appearance, as has already been done with its Japanese section. Yes, Category:zh:Female children may be a redlink right now, but that kind of category is easy to create! Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 16:39, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
