Hello Kent G. Budge, it appears that the version of File:Sandia Formation.jpg which you uploaded 2020-04-22T23:04:34Z is broken or corrupt. Please review the image and attempt to correct this issue by uploading a new version of the file. TheSandBot will re-review this image again in 7 days. If it is still corrupt at that time, then the file may be nominated for deletion. This is most likely to happen when a substantial portion of the image is corrupt. Thank you,

IA uploads...

[edit]

See also - Category:Internet_Archive_(potential_copyvio) which is for the more obvious cases.

and

Category:IA mirror related deletion requests which is the DR's filed in connection with the IA book upload project to date.

For context see also : Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Internet_Archive_document_bulletinofnatura621vol6

and User_talk:Fæ/IA_books

The issue concerning 'harmonized' volumes uncovering issues with stuff that Flikr Commons apparently had as "free from restrictions" is not an isolate example, and any assiatance you can provide in helping ensuring the stuff that is copyvio, whilst retaining as much material that Commons can reasonably hostgreatly appreciated. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:31, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This needs more people, much of the reviewing to date has only been by a few people, and I'm not sure I am catching as much as I could.
The reason for the IA books upload project in the first places, was because of certain risks to IA, and I'm sure you can agree that Commons does not also want to become the next target for aggressive enforcement by copyright holders. So Commons has to remove copyvios as they are identified. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:33, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Western Interior Seaway images

[edit]

I have been working on pages on the formation of the w:Western Interior Seaway, particularly fixing up the long messed up w:Dakota Formation. I have access to Kansas, much less so Colorado, it has been +25 years since I have been through New Mexico, and I have never been northwest of Cheyenne. The point is, as I work to couple the units of the Great Plains with their outcrops in the Southwest, there are more or less specific locations I wish I now had images of (e.g., upper Cretaceous rocks on the secondary ridges at the Gallup Hogback, particular locations at w:Dinosaur Ridge, outcrops around Albuquerque and Santa Fe. (I actually watched w:Flap only to see if I could see units of the w:Colorado Group.)) IveGoneAway (talk) 23:49, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, my images are shot with smart phones.... IveGoneAway (talk) 23:50, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can probably get you some photos of the Gallup Hogback without too much difficulty. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are my regular stomping grounds, if you need something specific. --Kent G. Budge (talk) 00:02, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WooHoo! (I had hoped.) There were some arguments with some editors holding to outdated theories on non-correlation of units between east and west, yet I see facies in New Mexico that I grew up with in Western Kansas and since 2010, geologist have been proving the correlations. I have also been remotely studying the railroads, geography, and geology of Valles Caldera (TF2 Badwater Basin) I will send you wish lists (nothing huge). Would this be the place to make the specific requests? IveGoneAway (talk) 01:24, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, as good a place as any. Keep in mind that I take photos; I don't resolve geological controversies. :D --Kent G. Budge (talk) 02:06, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I may be out that way in the next couple of weeks. Would a photograph of this road cut be of interest?
@IveGoneAway: Apologies; my trip was rushed at the end and I didn't get to the road cut. May be back out that way in October, if not much sooner. --Kent G. Budge (talk) 16:17, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I have had my head down at work; just caught some air and saw this. Yes, I think that is the spot. I almost caught a passing shot of that myself. I was so captivated the red bluffs. Let me look at that on a real computor in tue next few day. Thank you for remembering. IveGoneAway (talk) 06:00, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is the Gallup Hogback, I would like to know more about the geology of that hogback - but I would need to know more about it to write about it. I saw pictures somewhere of a unique WIS formation recognizably similar to its outcrop in Kansas. I need to read up on not just the cut but the geology of the county, these hogbacks occur all over the region, but not every one is Cretaceous. IveGoneAway (talk) 19:56, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That roadcut in the Gallup Hogback is the type section for the Cretaceous Gallup Sandstone. I'll be there in early October if not sooner and will get some good photos. --Kent G. Budge (talk) 20:24, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@IveGoneAway: It's been a long time coming, but finally:

Marble vs Limestone

[edit]

I don't know how your project came out, but I was at the Hays, Kansas, FUMC last Monday and remembered. Have you ever been to the Field Museum or the Atlanta Airport? The floors are Georgia Marble and show many fossils, particularly Ammonites.

Tonight, I am editing and came across my images of Ammonites in honed Fencepost limestone:

File:C.woollgari20130421.jpg

The Fencepost is chalky, but true limestone, but with coccolithic texture; texture that I am sure is eliminated in the metamorphism of marble.

If interested, I will place an image of a Georgia Marble Ammonite here when I go through my stack of "future" Commons uploads.

Kilbourne Hole

[edit]

Nice photos of the details there! I managed to get out there myself a few years ago, early in the morning from my Dad's house in El Paso. After I got back home, and told him about the place, he mentioned that he had been out there once himself, in his high-school bud's '37 Plymouth. He never let me know there was such a feature out there in the badlands. I found it via Wikipedia! Dicklyon (talk) 04:09, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pangea or Pangaea

[edit]

Thanks for informative maps! Is there a way (or a need?) to correct spelling of "Pangaea" on maps File:Pangea_assembly_310.png and File:Pangea_assembly_250.png? In French "Pangeae" is Pangée, so maybe "Pangea" is more international... Vagabond nanoda (talk) 18:24, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand it, Pangea is the most common American spelling, while Pangaea is used in most Commonwealth countries. Either seems acceptable. Glad you like the maps. --Kent G. Budge (talk) 18:29, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
