Tools & training

Hey, I am writing to thank you for your comments on my worm diagram (seems like you would have been justified submitting an  Oppose vote rather than a  Support, which would have been very disheartening, and instead I am doing my best to improve the image in the ways you suggested which I think is a much better outcome for everyone) and to ask if you'd consider putting a brief statement on your userpage that says something about your background as an illustrator of diagrams and tells the rest of us what tools you use and how long you've been using them. I get the idea you use Inkscape, but am not entirely certain even of that. Clearly you have a lot of experience-- enlighten the rest of us diagram creators as to the hows and whys, if you would. Okay? Much thanks! KDS444 (talk) 04:44, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

I added a short "about me" to my userpage; I haven't written much in the way of tutorials (I try to avoid going too deep into meta) but I did write User:Kelvinsong/SVG text tutorial a while ago.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 17:38, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

thanks!

The Commons Barnstar
Thanks so much for your Commons brochure cover design! We didn't use it (although we did fix the logo on the cover), but I really enjoyed seeing your design. You can see the print version here. Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 15:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
I still don't think the tiny commons logo in a white box works (or the light gray or the strange desk/perspective), but I guess you've made your decision.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 16:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, and I appreciate your efforts. I added it to my watch list, but not making any comments now due to my ignorance on the subject. But you may add a link on Commons:Village pump which attracts more comments. JKadavoor Jee 01:03, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Woah baby you got some fancy divvin goin on ! Is there a good H2O and maps to pair up each bad with a good and then put them into boxes like this, it would work towards the same goal.

Maybe like this, it gets the job done, but it also gets the important undertone. Penyulap 21:00, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

I did as you asked for the first block, including the smileys—Love, Kelvinsong talk 21:57, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
It look much better, but I am sad that they hide all the images from the page. I actually think there will be people who read the page (or attempt to read it) and won't see or realize there are image there. It's strange but true. long pages of text are like that, boring, and people skip them. However, it's not a help page, it's for voting and so on, so it doesn't matter as much as it would for a help page. but if it's an artist I direct to the page for pointers on creating good work, I would tell them there are collapsed sections so that they don't miss it. Or maybe there can be a duplicate that shows the visuals. Might seem strange, but that's the thing, there are people who read visually and people who are text-based. The rule-lovers are always text-based and the artists are always graphics-based readers. Penyulap 20:11, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Well I hid the examples because I was trying to prevent people from only reading the ones with pictures and ignoring the ones between. The pictures are hidden so each guideline gets equal weight.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 20:20, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Kelvinsong, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Thank you!—Love, Kelvinsong talk 16:05, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

a note not worth noting

I tried to undo this bit here, but I can't see how it escaped the comments section where I think you intended it to be. Perhaps you'd better look at it and stick it where you want, I can keep an eye out for more IP's with just one edit to their name (yeah, sure). Penyulap 17:22, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Penn, I don't really mind where it goes (I signed it to take responsibility for it). Due to the way mediawiki clears the divs, usually I put images before the text they describe but I didn't want the guy above me getting 'blamed' for posting it.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 17:27, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Something I like to tell you about Ottava, I think he is a good and intelligent person from what I have seen of him, though I have not seen very much. What I have noticed is occasionally he seems to mis-read or mis-process something someone has said, it's a small thing, but some people who take everything too seriously take that far far too seriously and get upset. I find though, if you know to expect an occasional 'glitch' that you simply won't worry and will find that he has some nice things to say that have value for all of us. Like this for example. In the past, and I guess in the future some people do or will target Ottava, but in actual fact I think everyone I know has something a little bit wrong with them. 98% of people have something about them that is broken or something, and the other 2% have their neighbor's head in a plastic bag in their freezer but seem perfectly normal as far as you can tell. I just want to let you know after I read your query here, so that we can all make the most of our discussions together, even though, I already think you don't worry. Move request File:KaunosPort.jpg and other

At first, thank you for your time and work you spend in Commons moving files around. The file you ceased to move was originally uploaded by myself to the German Wikipedia long time ago. It was later uploaded by a Bot to Commons. I don't disagree this in general, but contrary to many others I don't think of Commons as big trash bin where you can leave and forget your snapshots from the last holiday. I still keep an eye on them, categorizing them and so on. To keep an overview I use a scheme like <object>_LC<number>, which the Bot will not take care of. Now I want to have those pictures also in my scheme to make them more easily handable. Btw. it's not clear to me, why you didn't follow my naming proposal in the other images like File:Anagallis arvensis 01.jpg, which was requested to be renamed to "File:Anagallis arvensis LC0063.jpg" Doesn't make much sense too. Could you please correct this?

PS: We wouldn't have such a discussion, if I could use option 1 (orginial uploader) as the reason. Unfortunately this is not possible as from the Commons point of view the uploader was a bot. Thats another reason why I hate those moving bots. --LC-de (talk) 18:37, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

When I move files, I usually strip the meaningless digits from the ends in addition. I mistook the "LCXXXX" numbers as gibberish made by the camera. Are they really necessary though (Sorry, I didn't understand what you said, can you clarify the reason?)—Love, Kelvinsong talk 18:44, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
I use this number to have some kind of order in my images. Anyway, there are other ways of keeping them together, and maybe I'm a little bit too picky about this. If you plan to move more files requested by me, please follow the proposal. Thanks. --LC-de (talk) 18:56, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
I'll keep that in mind in the future. I think Uploader-request applies to you, even if it was a bot that technically uploaded them. I started to move a few previously moved files back to the "LCXXXX" numbers, but is it that important? I'd rather avoid excessive moving.—Love, Kelvinsong talk 19:10, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I think it's also ok to leave it. Sorry for any inconvenience.... --LC-de (talk) 19:24, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
