substing template + signing of your bot

Is this intended? Bot should only subst the template but I doubt it's intended to sign it. --Denniss (talk) 08:57, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

The bot did its job perfectly well there, it's just that the template itself has an auto-sign feature (once substituted, it leaves the message and the signature). Since my bot actually did the substitution, the signature would have just gone into effect as a result.  Hazard SJ  04:18, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Should the template be modified so it shows a "must use subst" warning? --Denniss (talk) 08:01, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes! -- Rillke(q?) 21:12, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

You still around?

Hi Hazard-SJ, I hope that all is well with you. Just wondering if you are still around, as that bot request for the FCO is still outstanding. If you aren't editing anymore, perhaps you could supply the code, etc that you used to do those uploads, so that I can perhaps get another editor to take on the task -- there's about 3 or 4 more very valuable streams from Flickr which would be great to get up onto Commons as well using the bot. Cheers, russavia (talk) 10:14, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello russavia, I'll still be around indeed, though not as often as I once was. I'm even more busy in real life at the moment, but I've gotten some things out of the way and will be more active than recently again, I hope. It'll however likely take some time to get back fully on track overall, but I'll be revisiting the request soon.  Hazard SJ  05:21, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
That's great mon, will be good to have you back on board somewhat, and getting moar Flickr stuff onto Commons -- got some massive streams which need to be done via bot, so will definitely be useful to have you around to help with it :) russavia (talk) 18:31, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Bot problem

Hi. If possible, could you please debug your bot so that COM:VP section headers are added automatically again? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 04:08, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I thought I'd replied to your message, but it seemed not. The script was running from my Toolserver account which had expired (it's renewed now, so the bot is editing again). I'll eventually move it to Tool Labs though.  Hazard SJ  03:20, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Please have a look at this if you have time. --Denniss (talk) 10:17, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a look.  Hazard SJ  04:00, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Reversing actions

Does your bot normally undo another user's actions, if those user actions might reinstated the things the bot specifically removed? e.g. here your bot reverted my edits. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 12:14, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Assuming you're referring to the category renaming, and assuming you re-added a category that was removed (the link above refers to a nonexistent category), I believe once the request is still on User:CommonsDelinker/commands, the bot will have it removed and if necessary, add the new category. If it was something else, please let me know.  Hazard SJ  03:14, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh sorry, no. What I meant was, in the now-deleted edit history, I tagged an article for deletion with {{Badname}}, then it changed my edit into {{Category redirect}} instead. It also has the habit of recreating category pages with {{Category redirect}} after a category has already been deleted, leading administrators to have to delete the category twice. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 11:32, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Those should be fixed now, thanks.  Hazard SJ  18:41, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Also for reference, I made mention of your bot here if you're interested in joining that discussion. (Sorry for the ping, Hym!) TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 11:35, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Does your bot have the capability to create Wikidata links? Please see User:TeleComNasSprVen/Guidelines to renaming a category. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 02:14, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm working on this, thanks.  Hazard SJ  02:20, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
I've just added some support, though I'll have to improve it in the future.  Hazard SJ  01:52, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations! Task 16 was approved. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:14, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

@EugeneZelenko: Could you move the request from Commons:Bots/Requests/Hazard-Bot (16) to Commons:Bots/Requests/Hazard-Bot 16 please? I just realised that I strayed from my usual title format a bit.  Hazard SJ  23:18, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Reversing actions (again)

Hi, I have just had Category:Freiburg on stamps im Breisgau re-created by Hazard-Bot, after I deleted it. Will it stay deleted if I delete it again? --rimshottalk 18:21, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

This is a different issue that the one that was previously reported, actually. That issue was about it recreating the source category, this is about the target category. The thing it, you deleted the rename target (the category being renamed to) while the request was still on COM:CDC (see oldid). Therefore, the bot will think the request hasn't been handled as yet, and so, re-attempt to complete it (which includes creating the target category page). Had you removed the request from COM:CDC, the bot would ignore it entirely.  Hazard SJ  19:29, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Ah, I see. I wasn't actually aware that there were any requests pending on COM:CDC, or that Hazard-Bot made moves based on that page. Someone else had requested the moves without leaving a notice on the CFD page. I will just delete it again, then. --rimshottalk 20:06, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Sure, no problem  Hazard SJ  20:09, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Substitution of {{Uncategorized}}

If possible please stop this, someone fiddled with the doc page triggering the Bot task. This template is not to be substituted, just {{Unc}} to provide a date-stamped version of uncat. --Denniss (talk) 19:57, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

I requested a temporarily block via [1]. Gunnex (talk) 20:28, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
It should be stopped now, and I disabled the cron job from running for now. I however won't be able to run a cleanup script now, but if noone has done it by then I should be able to do so later this week.  Hazard SJ  20:45, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
[edit conflict] Block attended for 24h. But the edits related to the substitution of {{Uncategorized}} eventually make sense :-). Look at (e.g.) File:Sindhi Cloth Shop.JPG (edited by the bot) and File:Challis Walker & Juan José Calandria - 1942.JPG. The bot-edited file allows to remove the Category:Media needing categories as of 30 November 2012 with Hotcat - File:Challis Walker & Juan José Calandria - 1942.JPG not. I remember an issue with Cat-a-lot, that moving uncategorized files to a category, the {{Uncategorized}} still remain in the files and had to be removed manually. Maybe this is a workaround for this... Testing --> [2] = upss. Nope, that didn´t work... Gunnex (talk) 20:55, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Despite what I said above, I'm gonna attempt a quick script for this now.  Hazard SJ  21:07, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
I've unblocked it. INeverCry 21:38, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
The substitution is introducing an error when I catagorize the files with HotCat, see [3]. - 4ing (talk) 21:42, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
I have a script up now, running from my account using rollback with a custom edit summary, and with the edits beimg marked as bot edits to hide them from recent changes. Additionally, I'm using a high edit rate, so hopefully it doesn't take too long.  Hazard SJ  21:53, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi, sorry to bother, I came here to thank you for having renamed the categ Tilerie into Tuilerie (or have had it renamed); and as I read the last topic here I remember having revoved a couple (maybe 4 or 5 maximum) of that 'uncategorized' template (after having put categs to the doc in which these were. But maybe I did it wrong, or maybe I'm the "someone (who) fiddled with the doc page triggering the Bot task"? I read the 'unc' page, no more lignt than without, so if I should not have removed that 'uncategorized' template pls do let me know (and pls also tell me if there is anything to do with it, other than not removing it). Thanks in advance. Basicdesign (talk) 18:13, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

there is still many work done by this bot which prevents to simply add categories using Hotcat, like File:CelulaBipolarProtonQuarks.png--Bioneer1 (talk) 13:34, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Yes, there is more, e.g. this. --Leyo 22:51, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
I have now fixed this manually a dozen times, the last time for File:Mini toolbar Word 2007.jpg. Can you please fix this? Torsch (talk) 21:33, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

MiszaBot down again

Hi Hazard-SJ, MiszaBot seems to be down again. I remember from here that you could take over it's archiving job. Would you still be interested in doing so? -FASTILY 23:09, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1.

Substing

I reverted your bot’s this edit as there’s no need for substing in the template documentation. Please exclude it from your program. Thanks, --Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:44, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Malfunction

Hi, To late to block but your bot substed a lot of templates which don't need a subst. Example. Please revert. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:02, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

@Steinsplitter: I should have gotten most (if not all) of them. The issue was caused by the fact that the templates in question contained {{Must be substituted}}: {{Category for discussion}} (especially this), {{Verified account}}, and perhaps one or two other templates. It's generally expected that if a template isn't expected to be substituted, it should not contain that template.
Now, what I see is the use of |page= in {{Must be substituted}}, which allows for the substitution of another template in order to include a certain template, (e.g. "This template must be substituted using {{subst:cfd}} instead of {{Category for discussion}}.") If you don't see what I'm getting at, the language itself is incorrect, and does not clearly express what it intends to. In such a case, my recommendation would be to not use {{Must be substituted}} on pages that must not be substituted (I hope you see what I'm mean), which would also mean eliminating |page = from the template. If there is a need to refer users to a separate template to be substituted in order to use a certain template, then we should have a separate and non-misleading template, for that purpose. What do you think?
P.S. I've disabled the script until this stuff can be sorted out.  Hazard SJ  01:30, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi. The subject bot has not posted in four days, since this edit. Please check on it.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:05, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Hi, thanks for your message. I anticipated that happening this week, and while I had planned to fix it from last week before that happened, I ended up unexpectedly busy. @Jeff G.: I've always been getting email notifications about edits to my talk page, so yes. For other pages, however, I would only get web notifications which I wouldn't see unless I log in and specifically check the notifications for this wiki (which I haven't been doing as much of recently due to business in real life), which is what I hopefully "fixed".  Hazard SJ  19:56, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for bringing this up.
