Your DRs

[edit]

Hi, Do not reopen DRs (already discussed twice) without any new arguments. Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:01, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Eva Rinaldi and Marek Jezierski

[edit]

The speedy deletion is only used to clear copyright violations, not a faint and potencially wrong suspicion. For that ireverted all of your editions related to the subject. If you had been more calm and paid more attention to the images, instead of adding templates without a second thought, you would notice one thing. All of this images wee taken with a Canon 40D, the same model of camera used by Eva Rinaldi. If you had read the serial number in full exif you would see that, as a matter of fact, its not just the same model but the exact same camera used and property of Eva Rinaldi.

So, this images could be a work for hire or other similar situation, using Eva Rinaldi camera, and if so Eva Rinaldi is the copyright holder. For this, if you still have doubts nominate them to deletion request, all in a bundle in the same image, so to give others an oportunity to give their imput. File:Andrew McCarter (8215451645).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Category discussion warning

Category:Single_item_categories has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Achim (talk) 18:36, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fred, please don't misunderstand me. I tagged hundreds of images as copyvios and deleted very many as well, that's not the question. But if an image of a person is kept in a special category or instead of that in an upper level category is of very low importance. And if a category is empty is has to be deleted (there are very few exceptions). Best, --Achim (talk) 20:52, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Photo deletions

[edit]

Brian Ferry

[edit]

I see you deleted a photo of Brian Ferry, but I don't even know which by now. I uploaded over 2,000 photos here, but almost 3 years ago I was sick and my body seized up into a coma. I am just returning to editing (mostly) the en.Wikipedia. Every photo I uploaded from Flickr or photographers' private photos, and with all I uploaded using the Magnus upload tool (after teaching the photographers during multiple emails how to change to a Creative Commons license, either BY or CC-BY-SA). At some point, Magnus' upload tool wasn't working and I had to save the photo to my computer and then upload from there. Many photos have since been re-uploaded above my upload from the actual source. That's fine, and improvements are too. My problem is that about 3-5 photogrphers later went back to their Flickr page and changed the Creative Commons license back to copyright, and I was unable to explain or defend them. Few editors bothered to check them out. The worst offender was named Klaus Hiltscher, and another was Cowboy Ben Altman, who insisted on uploading them himself, and now I know why. Can you please contact the Powers That Be on Wikimedia Commons, since I feel almost NO reaching out, assisting, whatever, in comparison to the Wikipedia, which is a shame for us older editors who don't understand how to find someone who can capture a tiny sound-bite for articles, improvements on the Wikipedia pages, and cropping and lightening. My user page on Wikipedia is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Leahtwosaints. My uploads alphabetized are here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Leahtwosaints/Leahtwosaints/List_of_uploaded_musician%27s_photos

AND, my Username is the same on any Wiki, no matter where. Sad to say, the photographers and newer editors have wasted no time in reverting my edits, photos, and the like on Wikipedia, and it may be time to discontinue ALL of this. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:12, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your VFC installation method is deprecated

[edit]

Hello FredWalsh, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:23, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

[Name] by year

[edit]

Hi. Please see Commons_talk:Category_scheme_People#People_by_year. I tried to cover both sides of the discussion. Please feel free to correct me if I somehow strawmanned you. Regards,Jeff5102 (talk) 10:50, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removing To check-categories

[edit]

And another question: what is the rationale behind removing files from "Category:AVN Adult Entertainment Expo 2000 to check", "Category:AVN Adult Entertainment Expo 2004 to check" and "Category:AVN Adult Entertainment Expo 2005 to check"? I might say it becomes harder for the experts to see which person should still be categorized. Jeff5102 (talk) 22:04, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fred, could you please answer my question? I am inclined to believe that removing unknown people from "to check"-categories is wrong, uness they are identified. But what are your thoughts behind that? Best regards,Jeff5102 (talk) 08:16, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please would you reread the policy. Duplicate is not about the image, it is exact copies of the same image in the same format. We are not trying to prevent variations of the same image.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:03, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merging CfDs

[edit]

I noticed you recently opened large number of CfDs that are based on an identical rationale. I'd like to request that you merge them into one discussion (or perhaps two: one for the person categories, and one for the "in year" categories, since those dicussions may be different). This will centralize discussion in one place so editors can be properly informed what everyone else is saying about this issue. I have a tool that may help you close the extraneous CfDs if you want to use it: User:BMacZero/QuickCfdClose. – BMacZero (🗩) 04:19, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BMacZero: Thank you for the kind offer. I tried doing this in the past, only to be rudely told to nominate individual categories. I have no intention of submitting myself to the same acrimonious tirade from such users. FredWalsh (talk) 19:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@FredWalsh: That's unfortunate, I believe those users are wrong. We often discuss groups of categories at once and the top of COM:CFD explicitly mentions doing this. I'm going to go ahead and simply link all of the discussions to a single one, and I'll deal with those users if they complain. – BMacZero (🗩) 19:51, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

de minimis

[edit]

You called for speedy deletion. I think de minimis applied. Geo Swan (talk) 15:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of user group sign

[edit]

Recently, I was notified that an image that was uploaded of a sign used by a Wikimedia affiliate was marked for speedy deletion. Why?--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 22:58, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RightCowLeftCoast: There are three logos in the photos. Each logo is copyright protected unless you can show it falls under an exception. In the middle is the Wikipedia logo (File:Wikipedia-logo-v2.svg), which is licensed under CC-BY-SA-3.0, a license that requires re-users to both attribute and ShareAlike. In the photos you uploaded, you’ve licensed them without any attribution to the original authors of any of those logos. The Wikipedia logo is also trademarked, so re-use may require permission from the WMF. FredWalsh (talk) 23:08, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

[edit]
Unblock request granted

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request.

Request reason: "It seems I share an IP range that has been globally blocked (see the details below). My ISP allocates IP's using a formula that I do not control and neither do the other millions of UK people who are served by this ISP. I am a bona fide user with a proven track record of positive (albeit sometimes unpopular) contributions but I make no apology for tagging hundreds of copyvio files which have been deleted. I cannot wait till the global block ends in four weeks because I suspect it will again be used for malicious purposes by persons unknown and it will probably be blocked again. I am aware that I do not qualify for a global IPBE because almost all of my editing is done here. Please add the IPBE flag to my account so I can continue working. The message I received was:
Your IP address is in a range that has been blocked on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis.

The block was made by Tks4Fish (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Long-term abuse. Start of block: 22:06, 13 July 2020 Expiry of block: 22:06, 13 August 2020 Your current IP address is 2a02:c7d:3c1a:7300:60cc:d8c1:312e:46a1 and the blocked range is 2A02:C7D:3C1A:7300:0:0:0:0/64. Please include all above details in any queries you make. If you believe you were blocked by mistake, you can find additional information and instructions in the No open proxies global policy. Otherwise, to discuss the block please post a request for review on Meta-Wiki or send an email to the stewards OTRS queue at stewards@wikimedia.org including all above details.

Thank you. FredWalsh (talk) 23:51, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

Assistance regarding deletion

[edit]

I, Ulf Larsen, have added a deletion request on this picture of mine below, in order to suspend a speedy deletion request:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ulf_Larsen_and_ex-girlfriend_14.jpg

I do however think that I have not got all correct, so if you could fix my mistakes I would be glad for that.

Regarding deleting the picture, my position is as on other of the 90+ pictures I have uploaded of me in amateur porn, that this is up to the community on Wikimedia Commons to decide. It seems to me that pornography is not uncommon and so, if such pictures are to be deleted, what other pictures must we remove? Pictures of war, perhaps? Ulflarsen (talk) 11:21, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ulflarsen: sorry I wasn’t able to help earlier. I see you’ve added a comment in the deletion request. I don’t think the deletion will happen. FredWalsh (talk) 15:52, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
