Please don't blank pages
[edit]Hi Eugenio Hansen, OFS,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Category:Caledar date in heraldry 1912 06 26 on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use type reason here and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. 20:16, 29 May 2010 (UTC)–Krinkletalk
- I understand that you want to delete it. But please read the above message, OK ? –Krinkletalk 20:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

is File:Wikileaks - A verdade vos libertara.svg, especially the addition of this motto, your own creation or did Wikileaks really use this logo? --Túrelio (talk) 09:34, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:40, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

By country categorisation
[edit]Can I remind you that the main world categorisation is "by country" as can be seen in Category:categories by country (flat list), not Category:categories by continent (flat list). The whole Commons world is organised on Commons "by country" (More than 5600 categories and growing every day): that is the current Commons standard. Moreover, political/administrative organisations don't map very well on continents: there are several countries that have territories on several continents (up to 6 , check en:List of countries spanning more than one continent). Categorisation by continents are just a side categorisation that should have no impact on the by counrty categorisation. Thank you for your good work. --Foroa (talk) 07:06, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

My file deletion nominations
[edit]The reason I nominated the above files for deletion, was because the law in some countries do not allow pictures to be taken of copyrighted buildings.(Commons:Freedom of panorama) I did not know that the buildings were in the public domain (their copyright expired). Now that I know that the copyright has expired I withdrew my nomination. MorganKevinJ(talk) 17:48, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: Technically, In Russia and France there is no COM:FOP for buildings and artwork. BUT, if the architect or the author of the artwork or temple has been dead (morte) for 70 years (anno), then FOP/Freedom of Panorama NO longer applies and the building or artwork is now in the public domain or PD. Each country has different rules here. This is a guide for the lifetime of FOP in each country after the death of the original artist/architect. In China and South Africa (and many other countries), it is 50 years after the death of the original author/artist, but in Russia, Italy and France, the rule is 70 years. We have many pictures of the Eiffel Tower on Commons because Gustav Eiffel died in 1923 which is 88 years after his death in 2011 today. This exceeds the 70 year deadline. So, most images of the Eiffel Tower is in the public domain (PD) today.
For Communist China, FOP is not a problem since they have full FOP for buildings and artwork whether or nor the artist is alive or dead as it says here. They have full FOP for buildings and art works...like Canada. Its in countries like Russia, Italy, France or the former Soviet states where it is a problem since they have no FOP at all. You have to wait until 70 years after the original artist/achitect has been dead before the object or building is finally copyright free. This map shows which countries have FOP in Europe and what types of FOP they are. Modern art and buildings in the former Soviet states are Not allowed as the artists/architects are still either alive or have not been dead for at least 70 years. (since 1940) Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:53, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit]If you remember, try to link an author's flickr or panoramio account when you upload a picture...just as a courtesy as I did here Some authors want a clickable link to their account, too. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:54, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Nebraska church windows
[edit]I see that you've just assigned categories to some photos of stained-glass windows that I've recently uploaded, e.g. File:Raeville St. Bonaventure apse windows S.JPG.
Could you please do the same for File:St. Leonard church (Madison, Nebraska) SSW saint windows.JPG? I don't know who is depicted in the window on the right. If you could identify the saint and assign the photo to the appropriate category, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
I expect to upload more photos of stained-glass windows depicting saints; could I ask you for help with them, too, once they're uploaded?

- Desgraciadamente, no hablo ningún Portugués.

[edit]Caro Eugenio Hansen,
15:54, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Felisberto (talk)

Why, why, why do you put quote marks in filenames??????????
[edit]You did it again just now with " Igreja São Jorge em Porto Alegre " 0025.JPG! There are only rather limited circumstances when quote marks should be used in filenames, and that isn't one of them. I don't have the patience or interest to closely monitor and clean up after you, so it would be best if you would avoid such situations in future. AnonMoos (talk) 07:36, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:0001 Anthony of Padua .JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Quanto às categorias, nota que w:John the Evangelist diz: "It is also debated whether John the Evangelist is the same as St. John the Apostle", e w:John the Apostle diz: "Some modern scholars have raised the possibility that John the Apostle, John the Evangelist, and John of Patmos were three separate individuals". Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
[edit]Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hi Eugenio Hansen, are you really the original photographer of the portrait of 1) Luciano Mendes, 2) Leonardo Boff, 3) Friedrich W. J. Hi Eugenio Hansen, if you use the work of another person (dead or alive, Commons user or not) for an own work, you need to credit him/her in the source and author entry; this is a moral and often also a legal duty. I have now corrected the source and author entries for this image. Please check all your similar uploads for this problem and correct them as soon as possible. --Túrelio (talk) 06:28, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R1 Announcement
