Hello!
Thank you for uploading File:ICTBuilding.jpg to the Wikimedia Commons. I noticed that when you uploaded from another Wikimedia project, you left out some important information, or copied it incorrectly. In the future, please consider using CommonsHelper, a tool which automates the process of moving files over. Thank you,

Notification about possible deletion
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.
We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules. In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files. Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions. Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Copyright status: File:Carrom dorm furniture.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Carrom dorm furniture.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please check my FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 15:35, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

Need some advice
Hi Doug. It has been awhile since we talked. You had given me a lot of help on the article I did on the Heritage Park in Muskegon. I have been slowly adding pictures to Wikipedia. I have a bunch of places that have multiple photos that I would like to add.
People use a command |commonscat that brings you to a Category in Commons. When I look at the category, I can see the header, but it never lists the photos. I had asked Andrew Jameson and he referred me to a admin, who gave me instructions that made no sense to me.
I was wondering if you had ever used this feature and if you could give me a step by step process for doing this that I can understand. I am now retired, so I have lots of time on my hands and I would like to add more pictures beside the one that is listed.
If you need a link to a page that has these more image links, let me know.

Doug:
A couple of years ago you where of great assistance in helping me get my first page published in Wikipedia. It was on the Michigan Heritage Park in Muskegon. I see that you added and improved it.
Unfortunately, I just read the news that the museum is going to permanently close it because it never generated enough traffic to justify it's existence.
Now the question is, do we modify the page to say it is now closed, or do we just delete it?
Wingerham52 (talk) 17:58, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Wingerham52: - I would say to keep the article and just modify the page saying it is closed, giving a reference of course.Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:52, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Doug Caldwell
This must be an accidental amalgamation of two separate images. The top image might possibly be a Crane-Simplex chassis with a special (Demarest?, I don't know but it is special) body and made in 1911 but the bottom image of Peerless and Le Baron and Demarest is circa 1921. Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2020 – Last day to enter!
This user participated in Wiki Loves Monuments 2020. |
{{User Wiki Loves Monuments 2020}}
to your userpage!Hi there! Kevin from Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States here. I know it's been a tough year for everyone, and I hope this message finds you well.
You are receiving this message as a participant in last year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the United States. First, a recap: We concluded with over 5,200 great photos of U.S. historical sites made possible by contributors like you. If you haven't yet seen, last year's U.S. winners are viewable here, and the international winners here (including multiple from the United States!).
Second, as you may have seen from the banner notices on Wikipedia, this year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United States has been running through October instead of September in consideration of the pandemic and the hectic start of the fall season. Despite the challenges of the year, we're thrilled that the United States has surpassed 5,000 photo contributions so far.
October 31st is the last day to upload photos for the U.S. competition this year. If you've already contributed, thank you so much - and it's great to have you again this year! If you haven't yet contributed but are interested in participating again, you're invited to join us during these last couple days. Check out the United States event page for more information. Remember that you are welcome to upload and submit photos of historic sites that you've taken any time in the past, not just this month.
As always, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 07:20, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Please do not overwrite files
----Animalparty (talk) 05:30, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ditto for File:Owen Skelton.jpg. It is totally okay to have more than one image of a subject, even if some of the images are of lower quality. When you overwrite an image with a completely different file from different sources, you risk conflating or misstating the source, date, descriptions, and other metadata that may only apply to the original image.
- In the case of Austin Cornelius Dunham, other photographs are now uploaded, see Category:Austin Cornelius Dunham. Cheers, --Animalparty (talk) 21:26, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:Lilly Dache on E 56th St.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.
|
Creative Commons licenses should not be used for historic images that long predate Creative Commons, or that have other public domain rationale. Note that simple crops or tone adjustments are generally below the threshold of originality and don't warrant new claims of authorship or relicensing.----Animalparty (talk) 18:32, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Animalparty: Library of Library says for this picture Rights Advisory: No known restrictions on publication. What should the license be then for this picture? Can you correct? Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:57, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Template:PD-Gottscho is the best to use in this case. See more at Commons:Library_of_Congress#Rights. The most generic template is Template:Library of Congress-no known copyright restrictions (only to be used when the Library actually asserts this, it has lots of media still under copyright), which can be supplemented with additional PD templates as appropriate. --Animalparty (talk) 19:04, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Issues on talk page
Hi. There appears to be an error on your User talk page that prevents communication templates from displaying, and also distorting user signatures. The problem seems to begin after the 6 October 2015 comment. This problem might be solved by archiving your talk page (which also avoids cluttering your active page with over 100 threads). For more info see Category:User talk pages where template include size is exceeded (which includes your talk page). I'm not very code savvy, but if you have additional issues or questions please ask at Commons:Help desk. Cheers! --Animalparty (talk) 18:51, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
