- Hi Damiens. The image was deleted because although it was licenced on flickr as CC-BY, the flickr image clearly had the watermark and alt test asserting that the image belonged to the Smithsonian, and so the flickr user did not have the rights to release. Hope this clears things up. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, my apologies, guess I made a mistake. If you reupload it I'll pass it. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Afraid not. I'm not an administrator, I can't delete or undelete, I only tagged it for deletion. -mattbuck (Talk) 20:31, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Do you seriously see a problem with a Darwin for President t-shirt? He isn't really running, and if he were he couldn't win because he is an Englishmen, and he has been dead for a very long time. Please try not to be petty --129.19.136.103 09:09, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not the place to promote your friend's "cool funny things". --Damiens.rf 13:16, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hello. I'm reverting your edit for the second time. Please refrain from cropping this photo again. It is not necessary to crop this picture, as the shirt in question is not promoting an actual candidate and is not advertising any trademarked product. Your personal feelings about whether the shirt is funny or not are irrelevant to this discussion. The picture should be left in the original format whenever possible as a courtesy to the photographer. Thanks for taking an interest, as I see you have on all of Miss Watson's articles.MArcane (talk) 23:59, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Courtesy? We ask the images to be freely licensed for a reason. --Damiens.rf 16:15, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

FOP
[edit]Please see COM:FOP#Australia, different versions of an image should be unloaded under different file names. Only identical images should be uploaded over each other. MBisanz talk 15:54, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Be more careful before you use "no source" template. Read accurately informations shown in the license template there:

Problem tags
[edit]Hello, thank you for marking images as "no source" but please always notify the original uploader about such act. It's hard to expect a source from the user if he / she even don't know about the problem. Please remember that many users will get a notification email about talk page change and will be able to react accordantly. Recently there were a dispute about deleted image that you marked as "no source" at Commons:Village_pump#13th_dalai_lama and now administrator who simply did a routine job is accused of some "conspiracy". Thank you --Justass (talk) 18:31, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the script be notifying the uploaders? --Damiens.rf 20:37, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- No, if you read carefully message that you left on any "no source" image it says "When applying this tag:....." and message ready to copy/paste to uploaders talk page. Happy New Year. Cheers --Justass (talk) 21:15, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

L&B postcard images from 105 years ago
[edit]Hi, you have recently instigated the removal of three imnage files thathad been moved from en.wikipedia, as the licensing data was incorrect. These were File:L&Bbarnstaple.jpg, File:L&Bbratton.jpg, File:L&Bblackmoor.jpg.
I don't know what licensing data weas included, as it wasn't me who moved them from Wikipedia (I'm not too sure how to go about it!), although following a request for deletion, I had updated the licence information to confirm that they are PD images (first published in the UK in around 1904/5) and this had been acceptable on en.wikipedia, so I was surprised to find they had then been deleted. Please could you advise how I can get these images reinstated - or how I can reload them with the necessary licence details to prevent their subsequent removal.
Similar images still in use are L&Bwoodybay.jpg (which still has my original licensing data, which may be incorrect) and L&Bchelfham.jpg (which is, I believe correctly licensed, but has not yet been moved to wikiCommons)
I have to admit to being a little confused by the image licensing requirements, so any assistance with retaining these images for use on Wikicommons would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Lynbarn (talk) 12:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

This [1] is not acceptable. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:20, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
The comment by the closing admin is what is not acceptable on commons: "The public domain rationale in the file description is enough to allow every people reusing the picture make his own idea on copyright status".--Damiens.rf 11:48, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

By way of information for the future, when you want to crop an image may I suggest you use the CropTool that can be activated in your commons Preferences, under Gadgets. The CropTool will then appears in the left side of your screen. It saves everyone a lot of time because it transfers all the correct and appropriate information into the cropped image, such as source, license, author, etc. It even leaves a backlink, that I have done manually, to the original and visa versa so long as the original has been positively reviewed. That way all the proper information is there and does not need to be manually reviewed. If you are just cropping a small bit of the image like a frame you can decide to overwrite the original image but for more major crops you should upload the copped version as a separate new image as you did. Try it. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 10:37, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
