It's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

Hello CAPTAIN RAJU/Archive 6!

We are excited again to let you know that, Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest photography competition of the world, will take place for the 13th time this year. And guess what! India is going to participate in the event again this year from September 1 to September 30, 2022. You might remember this competition as you had participated in one of its previous editions. Renaming files used at Wikisource

Hi, renaming File:Nietzsche - Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra (trad. Albert) (1903, Mercure de France).djvu has apparently broken thinks in fr.wikisource, which uses this file. As commons:File renaming says, it's better not to rename Djvu or PDF files used by Wikisource. I guess that restoring the old name would solve the problem (although I'm not 100% sure). Thanks. Hi CAPTAIN RAJU, nothing is meaningless or ambiguous name about File:El Crit del Palleter.jpg. It's a painting by a Spanish painter that you now gave an English name. You shouldn't have done this rename. Multichill (talk) 12:12, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

Renaming of File:Mapa koja mi treba za osnove energije i koja se ne zeli uploadat.jpg

Hi Captain Raju, you and @User:SHB2000 declined my request to rename this file on the basis of meaningless or ambiguous name (criterion 2). The current filename, in Serbo-Croatian, roughly translates as "A map that I need for the basics of energy and which does not want to be uploaded.jpg" which you can confirm for yourselves via online translators. It is a terrible filename, and given that the image does not contain any language-specific text, there is no practical reason for it to stay in the original language. I'll go ahead and request again, preserving the language since I'm a native speaker of it, but what if I did not know the language in question? "Keeping the same language" takes precedence over "meaningless or ambiguous name"? -Vipz (talk) 00:19, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

@Vipz: Files are usually named in languages that many users know. A meaningless name can wait a while, until somebody that knows the language turns up. If the filename were in a language you don't know at all, then you wouldn't know it is meaningless or ambiguous. Of course there is a risk for hoaxes, where the language is truly rare or even invented, but those can probably be handled separately (at least ask on the uploader's talk page – names like the Serbo-Croatian one are often given when a good-faith user gets frustrated by failed uploads, and should be easy to sort out). –LPfi (talk) 20:18, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
