Thanks for uploading Image:Sonnefjord Norway.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

You had tagged the image with {{Bad name}}, but it was a completely different image than the one you pointed to. If this one exists with another name, please insert the correct one in the tag, and it will be taken care of. Cnyborg 23:21, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I was looking at your picture in the featured candidates and I think this would be an amazing picture if it was taken in HDR. --Digon3 14:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please upload the original unedited Bodensee panorama? I can try to make a HDR out of it (I have the software) but the edits in the edited version is too obvious with the lighting increased. --Digon3 15:44, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Send me the 4 pictures (as long as they are unedited), I'll make the panorama and hopefully HDR --Digon3 19:59, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite what I was hoping for, but it will do for now. I'll keep working on it and update it. (Next time take the picture after the sun has gone done :) Here it is Tell me what you think --Digon3 16:20, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I worked on it some more. The problem is the lighter the town becomes, the more noise is visible. It looks very good otherwise and is an amazing picture. Too bad it is so far away. --Digon3 17:45, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bild:Frederic Leighton-Orfeo ed Euridice-1864.jpg, Betreff: Wikipedia Commons Talk

[edit]

Hi, I figured I'd get a message about this picture. It's on English wikipedia and I was about to upload it on Swedish WP (I'm Swedish) but the template on Swedish WP said that pictures with this type of license were better off uploaded at commons, so I did... You tell me where to go from here because I have no more info about this pic since this the info below the pick here is all that was on English WP. /Greverod 20:33, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Windows

[edit]

Hi.

About wiztheora:

Yes, the script can be adapted to work on Windows, and it would be great someone adapt it. However I think procedures are very different in Windows. I'm not sure it's possible to install it as a comand line tool. I'm also not sure if it can be installed using a "tar" command.

In terms of development I prefer to concentrate myself on Linux and Mac OS X, because the script can run without modifications, so coding will be much faster. --OsvaldoGago 20:29, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm JMadrid (Javitomad at Spanish Wikipedia http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario:Javitomad ) and I created the image "Avenida Salamanca.png" from the original design (which has copyright) and now that is a personal creation made by me an with no copyright at all, so I hope you to not to delete my image. Please, think twice. look at the differences:

Flickr licenses

[edit]

This is kind of a general issue, but thought you might be a good person to talk to. Considering flickr licenses are at cc-2.0 right now, wouldn't it make sense to put cc-2.0 licenses as an option in the upload forms? --Chinasaur 17:45, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia interactions

[edit]

Thanks, I usually try to back down before I get too steamed up, but geeze, it took so long to figure out how to categorize the pictures in the first place, then I spend all day sorting them and being really careful about the categories, find some other pictures I couldn't find before because they weren't categorized, categorize them for usability, and bam! I stepped on someone's territory--they weren't even pictures he had uploaded. And I find out when I come back to upload a box of pictures of California's flora, after I've updated my browser so I can do it quickly, totally organized with the categories and everything, and I find out that I can't do it because there might be more than 400 pictures in the category I chose.

It's bery hard not to go ballistic when every thing I try to do gives me a ferocious headache and makes me regret ever coming here. I think that Wikimedia Commons needs to change, to become more user friendly, before I attempt to do something here again. I'm going to upload my pictures to CalFlora instead, and continue selling them to people rather than give them away. I really support the idea of free resources behind Wikimedia Commons, but it's just too hard to use. I'm an artist and a naturalist, not a Wikimedia expert. If I become the last, I won't have any of the first to upload.

I'm unwilling to take the chance that nothing else will happen. Wikimedia has to change first. I just hope they won't drive too many more people away before that happens. KP Botany 22:19, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand. I have asked the photo author's permission (Andrew Drummond himself) per e-mail. If he grants me e-mail permission to use this photo, is that sufficient? What should I do with such a permission? --Smeira 02:02, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All right, I'll send him this declaration and ask him if he would like to send it to wikimedia. We'll see then. Thanks for the information, I have a better idea of what can and cannot be done now. --Smeira 00:48, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now I have another question, and I'd like advice on that. I have recently received some old postcards, originally sent by the most important Volapükist of the Netherlands, Arie de Jong. These postcards were sent to a Swedish Volapükist in the beginning of the 50's, a couple of years before Arie de Jong's death in 1952. The Swedish Volapükist in question also died some ten years afterwards. His wife donated his Volapük materials, among which also the postcards, to the Interlingua association of Sweden (in Stockholm, I think), who promptly put them for sale on their Interlingua web site. Because these postcards are historical material (they contain some new texts in Volapük that have never been published, and also some informations on their author's life and thoughts), I would like to scan them and place them here. The question is, is that possible, or would I be somehow violating copyright laws? (I note these were not private materials, but personal correspondence that was donated by the original receiver's wife to an institution that sold them, after the death of the receiver in the late 1960's.) --Smeira 16:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It,and other like it also recently downloaded, came from a web site called "Russian Empire in Photographs", specifically http://all-photo.ru/empire/index.en.html?id=13458&kk=1a189f91fc

As with all the rest, the title of this image is the original site title, not my own. Given the age of these photos, and the fact that nowhere in the site was there copyright claim(s) to any of these photographs, I felt they could, in fact, be transfered to Wikimedia Commons without any violations.

In wikipedia there is a license for logo. What can be the correct license for logo in commons? Because there are limited licenses in commons. Reply soon NAHID 13:59, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bryan, this the step requiring when we insert a del tag. The first line in the template ask to aware the uploader, to place after that in deletion request and... Bryan, you know that you were speaking about uploaders who don't have insert their link in description template or a user page (name become red). And this is not for us to search in the historic where is the uploader. A correct description is needed. Before to ask to people who insert deletion tag to search the uploader, you should ask to uploader to insert correctly their name to create their user page. I'm telling you : I will not search in historic the name of the uploader if he doesn't know how to add a description template. I've always aware people when their is the link to their user page in the description template but if you don't want to understand and continue to think my job is not enough well-done : don't come again on my page and flame me. Hello. I've uploaded the following files to the article called 'Blues' located on the spanish wikipedia (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues)

Stevie.jpg and Escala.png

These files are **exactly** the same files that are located on the english article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues), a wikipedia's featured article. The names of the files can be different but the contents are exactly the same.

If i'm honest, the spanish 'Blues' article was my first one on Wikipedia and it was a whole translation of the english one due to the poor quality and quantity of the spanish one. I've tried to copy the copyright information and details but due to being my first uploads i think that i did something wrong because i recall to see some copyright warnings on the wikipedia pages of the source files but i think "it's a featured article, it can't has any kind of copyright problem after all".

Sorry for all, it seems that I haven't started on the right path :).

Hello,

There are different definitions for the nonmetal elements. We don't use in Commons the one with halogens as nonmetals. See this diff, Non metal in the English Wikipedia and Commons talk:WikiProject Chemistry/Categories. If we want to use a different definition, we'll have to create extra category and subcategories for Nonmetals with a non-ambiguous title. --Juiced lemon 15:20, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Come on, an old version of a wikipedia article (that is wrong, by the way, and happily has been fixed since) is most definitely not a respectable source, especially when it contradicts every printed book that I have been able to check. Itub 16:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On COM:DEL Carl Lindberg says that the versions of the images on OWW.com are more recent than the images uploaded by Static on Flickr. So it's impossible that Static have taken the images from ObsessedWithWrestling, so it's not copyviol. No? --Eddie619 13:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FlickreviewR bugs

[edit]
  1. Image:Cumberland_Pinnacle_Rock.jpg - It tagged it incorrectly, the licenses match.
  2. Template:Flickrreview - It is not conforming to step 3, but it could be.

Judging by the number of of flickr images that I've seen which are obvious copyright violations but tagged consistently on flickr, I think it's still important to have a human sanity check the images. But we can do that later as a separate process. Since I can't expect the bot to catch such things, I won't complain about that... but it really should leave a nice note on flickr thanking the user for their image. It would be ideal to even tell them where it's used, although check-usage is just a tad slow and a tad down. Instead it could at least check enwiki and give them the url of an article where it is used there, or the commons url if it's not use on enwiki. Are you using pywikipedia bot? If so I'd be glad to help you impliment this stuff. --Gmaxwell 15:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

tagging the OLPC-image

[edit]

Hello Bryan, your tag of a possible copyright infringement is wrong. This picture is from the olpc-homepage. The complete homepage is copyrighted under the CreativeCommons ShareAlike 2.5. licence. This picture is made by OLPC. The owner of the Laptop-Design is OLPC too. This picture is not licenced under a different licence. Consequently this picture is licensed, as I said, under the CreativeCommons ShareAlike 2.5. licence. So, there is no infringement.

Therefore I will remove your tag. If you have additional objections please contact me.

p.s: the source of this picture is the OLPC-Homepage. Therefore it isn't a derivative work, it is a copy of the original image.
