Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
 • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
 • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
 • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
 • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
 • To link to an image page, write this: :Image:Foo.jpg, it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
 • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
 • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: Correct name

Image deletion warning Image:Paris_metropolitan_area.gif has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Please help replace this outdated license

[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Good work or Targeted user

[edit]

Hello

I hope that you could understood the fact that targetting mosts contributions or always the same user could be problematic. I'm agree that Commons should be expurged from all non-free files but there a lot of other files that those uploaded by Markus3. Please don't be too focalized on his pictures and do something else. Like uploading yourself some pictures, targeting some others users, or others categories (like Penis, a lot of work here).

Also please try to imagine that the situation could be reversed. You will be the target of an unknown user who request each day the deletion of your files, what will be your sentiment ? Please be free to present yourself on your user page. --GdGourou - °o° - Talk to me 10:56, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
in my opinion the best thing to do would be to take a few minutes to cancel all of your requests requests that are based on a clear misinterpretation of the French law. Pictures which do not show any copyrighted work of art (like a statue, painting, etc.) or recent building (which means created by an architect who has not been dead for more than 70 years) should not be considered as breaking the law on panoramas. In case you'd be more concerned by the fact that some people could be recognized on some pictures, please note that there is another law in France that states that you are free to take pictures of people during a public event (festival, protest, march, concert, etc.) without having to ask their permission.
So, to avoid waisting everyone's time and avoid hurting the feelings of one or several contributors, please consider re-examining your requests in detail and removing the useless ones. Cordially, Alchemica (talk) 14:11, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My recent DR show people in costumes, yes but also objects that do not have utilitarian aspects and are therefore generally copyrighted as works of art. I am not nominating images based on the appearance of people in the images, but on the works of art therein. Therefore, COM:FOP#France and COM:DW both correctly apply. For previous DR for the exact same type of image please this request and this request. In some images, de minimis may be argued, and that depends on the POV of the closing admin, but certainly not in all. I do not care who uploads the images if it is not the author/artist/architect of the object in question, unless permission has been correctly granted. I am not targeting any one user, I am going through the giant category in alphabetical order and if one user has uploaded lots of images without the correct permission, then sobeit. --Grcampbell (talk) 15:39, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FOP in France

[edit]

Bonjour,

Exemples : Commons:Deletion requests/File:Pouilly-lès-Feurs (Loire, Fr) prieuré, panneau.JPG, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Stade Chaban-Delmas.jpg. Hello, Bob247!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

opposé à la la destruction de 8 photos

[edit]

I am against the removal of my eight pictures that were taken in a public domain, the statue in the public domain as well as national property. More The French Supreme Court has also held June 5, 2003 " there is no right of the owner of the image well." On the other hand Wikimedia commons and other Wiki are not located in France the regulations do not apply to such Panoramio (Google) has accepted and distributed these pictures..

your link has no bearing on the argument for deletion. Please read freedom of panorama (France). --Bob247 (talk) 06:42, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Esby (talk) 19:03, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Esby (talk) 20:07, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He is referring to the files listed for deletion on his alter's user talk page. They were all nominated and deleted per freedom of panorama (France) guidelines. --Bob247 (talk) 22:55, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Esby (talk) 07:17, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,

Where did you get the information that Louis-Stanislas Cordonnier did an architectural work on the Basilique de Lisieux ? The more I search, the less I found evidences that the son did anything else than supervising the end of the work.

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 00:26, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I remove it, according the very wrong feedback other editors have let about Bob247.
They don't like the anonymous way he does the edit and they noted the low ratio (25%) of successful DR.
I have mixed feeling about this situation and would clearly prefer Bob247 addresses the community concern before to get special rights. --Dereckson (talk) 18:16, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
>98% of files nominated for deletion that have been closed as delete this month (140 of 142 so far). --Bob247 (talk) 19:10, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment One concern about the autopatrol flag, Commons is an international project and you don't have a userpage, it's better to have a short presentation with the different language you speak (please see Commons:Userboxes), moreover having a userpage makes it a little bit less anonymous when you nominate dozens of files for deletion. --PierreSelim (talk) 07:13, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want a user page. Admins on the English wiki have purposefully deleted their own user pages. Until there is a requirement to have a user page, I do not want one. This has been used in the past by others for personal attacks and stalking. This is why I wanted an anonymous username and requested the username change. It is also why I had my userpages on other wikis deleted. This is my choice. Therefore, I object to the veiled personal attack by Dereckson that I am puerile on the Bistro page regarding my choice of username. Finally, as User:INeverCry (which Dereckson will no doubt believe to be another puerile username) has stated above, the autopatroller rights have no effect on [my] editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Therefore, it isn't really a right. It will simply create more work for other users to wade through my contributions. Though Dereckson has stated that he wants to carefully check them, so I hope he has fun. Finally, have you (Dereckson) seen anything wrong with my recent DRs? Am I supposed to hold hands with users whose files I nominate? According to the discussion above, and on Bistro, the vast majority of my recent DRs that have been the subject of much whining have been supported and the files deleted and categorized as undelete in XXXX if relevant. --Bob247 (talk) 09:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS I find the behavior of Dereckson towards me thus far has been nothing short of insulting, disrespectful and rude, a behavior which he has also shown to User:INeverCry. --Bob247 (talk) 10:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I believe Dereckson was mislead by the Bistro and the feeling associated to see a random nickname + random number. Checking your contributions (as you might be checking other people contributions) is kinda normal to me, especially when there is no profile associated(red name). New account (red) are usually more prone to vandalism than others, so they have to be checked... You could also link to a blank or empty profile o, so people would be less be surprised by the red link. But I guess there would still be people complaining that you hide in anonymity: they can complain, but per policy, you don't have to disclose your identity, also, 'esby' or 'dereckson' are as anonymous as 'bob243', those are just nicknames, those does necessary not mean we hide our identity.
Esby (talk) 10:32, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the words of support, and for your comments above re ottaviani. Maybe I will change the signature to plain text, or blue unwikilinked text or similar... although I do like the red. --Bob247 (talk) 10:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but it means more steps when nominating file and I am only at L in the French Sculptors category... --Bob247 (talk) 10:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It means more steps when closing otherwise, If we keep pictures we have to move the categories from the DR and the File ^_^. However thank you for taking all this time to check the French sculptors categories. --PierreSelim (talk) 10:59, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
