Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Do you own a lot of different cameras?
[edit]I noticed that you have uploaded several files which you claim to have photographed yourself. I would appreciate if you could clarify the question marks raised in the deletion requests above before uploading any additional files. Furthermore, I notice that the files you have uploaded were taken with no less than six different cameras, so could you please list the cameras that you own? —LX (talk, contribs) 15:51, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your concern LX, I do not feel comfortable listing what equipment I own on public pages as it is very expensive, I mostly use Cannon for still photography though. Some of the Images were taken on film (with an OM 1 believe it or not) and scanned in. The ariel shot is a screen grab from a video taken with a Contour hd bullet camera. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Billpolo (talk • contribs) 4 december 2010 kl. 16.15 (UTC)
- Do you own a Canon Ixus point-and-shoot? Which model? What about a Sony point-and-shoot? Which model? Those are not very expensive, so answering those questions should be fine. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:22, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
I do own a Cannon Ixus 130, I'm not sure that I have uploaded any taken any with a Sony 'point and shoot' as I have not used one for a while, I have owned a few though. The images date back for quite a few years so it is hard to remember all of them.
