Thanks for uploading File:Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument Management Plan.pdf. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument Management Plan.pdf ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Documerica Project flickr uploads
Hello Artix
I see you have been uploading files from a USA flickr stream tagging them PD-USGov. However, I'm not convinced that this license really applies since, if freelance photographers were hired to make the photographs, they were not an officer of the United States Government, and they probably kept the copyright [1]. Also, you should keep a link to the flickr stream where it was initially published, so they could be easily traced back.
Platonides (talk) 22:25, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- hi Platonides,
oh, I read it and it seemed a bit ambiguous. I'll add the link to the flickr stream. Thanks.

Copyright status: File:The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.webm
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.webm. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Cat
the category for britian and ireland. Can I help move them? Artix Kreiger (talk) 19:01, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- MediaWiki is updating the categories automatically, so I don't think there's much anyone can do. Null-editing every file would force faster updates, but it seems a little impolite. In any case, I have a plan for User:Geograph Update Bot that would have it make a real edit to almost all files uploaded by User:GeographBot, which would make it kind of moot. --bjh21 (talk) 19:13, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- Is there a dedicated bot to move files from category to category? from what I can tell, enwiki has one. Artix Kreiger (talk) 19:15, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- I think User:SteinsplitterBot does that, but it's not necessary in this case, because all of the images are placed in the category by a template, either Geograph or Also geograph. Now that both of the templates have been updated, I think we just have to wait for the MediaWiki software to catch up. --bjh21 (talk) 20:50, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Licensing
Hello. I see you are using a boilerplate license on a lot of your uploads. Please note that we require the license to note the actual status of the file in question. A file which has fallen into the public domain should not have a Cc-zero or license tag added, for example.
Please fix your uploads to have the correct license. You can find the licenses at Category:License tags. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:58, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- I'll start working on them. Artix Kreiger (talk) 03:06, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Media categorization
Hello Artix,
I have noticed that you have added the category Banks in Natchez, Mississippi to the files listed in Category:Commercial Bank (Natchez, Mississippi) by using cat-a-lot. Because the category of the Commercial Bank itself is listed as a subcategory of the category "Banks in..." the files are allready properly listed in the category system. They should not be displayed a second time by adding the same category again to each individual file. Such a practice is called "overcategorization" as you can read in COM:Overcat. Please also be advised that categories do not function as "tags" like they do on other image databases on the web such as Flickr, Panoramio, ... Instead the category system is designed to form a logical based hierachic structure. Never mind if your edit was just a mistake and you allready know everything that I have mentioned. Best regards. --Zaccarias (talk) 17:03, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Bot
Aloha! In order to run a bot you have to have permission. I blocked your bot from editing for now. Please apply for a bot flag @ COM:BRFA. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:13, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
- Is this a true bot, or is it an account to run Cat-a-lot, separate from the main contributions? If it's the latter, we don't need a bot flag. Instead the account should be renamed to avoid confusion with a true bot. Guanaco (talk) 01:16, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello. You marked redeemer game box art as copyright violence. How can I disput this? I'm on a developer crew, we need to add this image to game article. Uploading with right rights does not work, filter claimed any download as unconstructive, wrong or "copyright violence". Can't understand, how can we do all right. We need to make studio account? Or need to pay someone? How does it works? Thanks Elfaran (talk) 18:29, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:In the Year 2889.ogv
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:In the Year 2889.ogv.
Interesting Event
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing Commons. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may add Unblock below this message explaining clearly why you should be unblocked. - You can find the reason in the block log. And given you recent edits you should have known, so don't pretend to be ignorant. I have disabled your ability to edit this talk page. To the reviewing admin: this is most likely a sock of INC who has recently been active vandalising admin-related pages. De728631 (talk) 00:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- @De728631: It seems to me that Artix was reverting the actions of INC sock Важкі часи, but I can't see the revdelled details. — Jeff G. ツ 00:18, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oh dear, my sincere apologies to you, Artix Kreiger. Jeff G is totally right and I mixed up your edits with the real INC sock. I have now unblocked you and restored your user page. De728631 (talk) 00:25, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Rollbacker
I've made you a rollbacker. If you see that kind of vandalism, you can use rollback rather than HotCat so the offensive text won't appear in your edit summaries. This should help prevent confusion about what you're doing. Guanaco (talk) 00:30, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Unexpected but thank you very much. I will take it to heart. Artix Kreiger (talk) 01:28, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Spanglish
Hi You were right to lower your level of Spanish in them user boxes. Once you wrote Inez instead of Inés. Your Spanish is worse than mine. :) --E4024 (talk) 13:05, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

- Not inez, but Inez. I forgot already where it was, but remember noticing the mistake. --E4024 (talk) 14:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for reminding me. I am terrible at spanish and I should not overestimate myself. Artix Kreiger (talk) 14:12, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- @E4024: , nice choice with the revert. Artix Kreiger (talk) 20:20, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was trying to thank you for something and suddenly I noticed that I reverted your talk accidentally. This is due to the last favour Daphne made to me before she left the scene. She made me a "rollbacker", which I don't even know what it means, and since then I began to revert my own edits etc. :) If you look at my user rights thingy, the two promotions I got were from her and INC. If this involuntary rollbacking continues to give me headaches, I will ask the first of those two users to become admin again to take back that roller pin thing from me. If you become an admin soon, I can also ask you a favour. Returning to your wise words, "nobody should overestimate oneself"... --E4024 (talk) 07:50, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk. This also applies to many other images in Category:Files from the U.S. Forest Service Northern Region Flickr stream that you have uploaded.

More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Elisfkc (talk) 14:56, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

File tagging File:20170425-OSEC-PJK-0106 (33918352340).jpg
This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:20170425-OSEC-PJK-0106 (33918352340).jpg.
Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

The urls need to be change to be full urls. There was quite a strong, and this is not the first time that I have seen that you have hit that pothole. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:20, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: , I had wondered as well. It was the flick2commons tool and it was the USDA site. Artix Kreiger (talk) 11:53, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Urls need to be resolved prior to upload, so either you will need to do them manually, or get the bot operator to properly resolve them away from the shortener. I don't know the tool other than it is one of MM's so guess that manually resolving them will be more likely. Might be worth a chat to Com:VP about a means to progress. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:56, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
