I aren't able to look at OTRS messages either, but have added comments to Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#File:Industrial_Robot_.jpg, I suspect that the OTRS email won't cover this image, so I have recreated a very similar (but smaller) image from the transparent GIF - File:Industrial robot.jpg. If we can't get the original back, I propose creating a link from the badname (has a space on the end) to the new image, or if that is too inefficient (not sure how much extra load is generated by redirects), just move the new one over the top of this one. --Tony Wills (talk) 11:11, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Yea let's see what OTRS has to say. Probably the permission is for those 6 files only as the file in question has been deleted long before the DR. But I don't really think its worth it to get a new permission for that file. We can just place a redirect from the deleted file to the one you did. Amada44 talk to me 12:44, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- I created the redirect. load is no problem. cheers, Amada44 talk to me 15:28, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
- Great. It looks as though it was mainly used in anti-vandalism messages by a bot, and they now use a different image, but at least all those old messages now have an illustration again :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 20:37, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the help for File:UNDG.gif
Thanks for editing the license; I just don't get Commons that well. Can you help me also for this File:ODI.gif ? I uploaded it to represent the logo in the main wikipedia page. Thanks. Foxhound66.
- Hi. Sure I can help. The problem is, that the site claims copyright on everything they publish and I think that includes the logo (see here: http://www.odi.org.uk/about/terms-conditions/copyright.asp ). One could argue, that the logo is too simple for copyright but I am not sure about that. I will place a deletion on the file and that will give us more opinions. cheers, Amada44 talk to me 17:08, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for deleting the large versions of files. I am the rightful copyright holder; however the larger files were edited by my partner who requested that the smallest possible versions are posted online so that further edits cannot be as easily facilitated. thanks for the thanks
I was going to wait until there were a few less files in the section that I am looking at now before I responded to your kind barnstar thing.
I confess that I do not understand those things.
For a lot of reasons, a task which mostly empties my mind of other things and fills it with a different complicated mess has a certain appeal to me right now. My idea about wiki software is that the quick and easy categorization is the only real advantage that it has over regular old html. I might be wrong about that, but it is my idea for a long while now.
What is really really great and nice here is that the opportunity to do this was here and that I have been allowed to mostly complete it.
More importantly, interesting videos. I have not uploaded any of these (higher resolution versions of videos that were already here do not count). Original and interesting videos in particular. I have seen several of these from you and one, in particular, I look for in my bookmarks -- fail to find it -- and then rebookmark it (at least I think that is the process) several times now File:Cannon ball mill.ogv
In the several thousand (I think this many) videos I have watched over the last few months here, if there had not been a few interesting ones, like at least that one of yours and perhaps several of yours, since I recognized your "name", a dreadful and tedious task would have been so very much more so.
If the barnstar is a positive thing, you should perhaps have given it to yourself or if I understood it correctly, maybe I should have given it to those uploaders who made it much more worth my time. (I'd rather put them on the main page instead.)
I watched those things -- well, most of them. I really know what I am saying about good and interesting. At least in respect to scope and what is here.
At its best and with its scope and all of that, the commons has an opportunity to eh, "be itself" as far as the Main Page goes. Not that the cannonball mill is cheesey, but some of the better videos here are cheesey and are, good or even great cheese. I am attempting to encourage you to take more videos, but the qualities I am talking about are not found in your Cannonball video, unfortunately.
I have enough videos bookmarked that I can fill MOTD for a few months and I have not really looked at the audio files yet.
I really appreciate your "belief" as expressed in your videos also, btw. They are just the video. They are unmarked with flickr account information -- nothing is more pathetic/sad to me than a pointer to another web site here. How sad for the commercial failures that need so much of that! Also, the sorry little creative commons graphic. What a bad experience it should be for them if where ever that license is found, everything below it is rudely and wrongly "tampered with". It might become obvious that some licenses and/or license ideas are just simply not good and not good to have around.
Commons has a lot of "belief based" videos here -- it should be the standard for its own front page and I would like to see the people who would challenge that idea and also see what the hell they are doing here and/or anyone who voted for them.
So, I am attempting to dilute the importance of the categorization of the videos and inspire you to take more videos. Perhaps if you fill in the missing inspirational devices I could meet this goal?
while I do not understand the barnstars, I am less suspicious of them as I used to be. -- Queeg (talk) 09:53, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Request for assistance
Can you help me? I uploaded File:1805-Lawrence-Marchioness-of-Ely-AnnaMariaDashwood.jpg several weeks ago and put a request (IFC) on it for color correction. The original image came from a museum website and was high-res but only medium-sized, and very dark. The image was subsequently "enhanced," but IMO quite badly: First, the colors still aren't right, and even worse, the editor enlarged the image, so now it is bigger, but lower resolution! Please take a look and tell me if you agree that the enhancement is not an improvement. I am fairly new to Commons. How should I handle this? Revert and request color correction again? With or without notifying the editor who "enhanced" the image? Is this something an admin (or at least someone higher up than I in the hierarchy) should handle? Is there another Wikigraphist who specializes in portrait paintings who might be a better person to consult? Thanks for any guidance you can provide! Laura1822 (talk) 18:19, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- sure. To upscale images is always a bad idea. Therefor it was not an improvement. I did a bit of color correction on the original resolution and replaced the image. I hope its okay like that. You could have just reverted it with the comment that you didn't think upscaling was a good idea. Then you could have requested the ifc again or you could have gone here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Graphic_Lab/Photography_workshop generally people there are very helpful and you can specify what you want. There is no need to notify the person who did the ifc. You could have if you wanted to. Things like that don't need to be handled by admins. Hope its okay what I did otherwise feel free to revert :) Also feel free to ask any questions you have! Cheers, Amada44 talk to me 20:26, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I wanted to add to the description of this photo. The exif says it was taken in August (winter), but the infotable say October (spring). Can you remember which is right? And possibly the location? JMK (talk) 17:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- By the way, I found id's for some of your insect photos. I believe they have been renamed. JMK (talk) 17:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I really don't know why the date was wrong in the description. The exif info was correct and I fixed that. Now to the position, that is really difficult to say. I looked at my photo stream to try and narrow the position down. We entered the park in the morning (7AM right down in the south) at 13:30 we where near a big river (most likely Sabie, could also be Crocodile though) at 14:24 we where near a lodge. I don't think that this helps to narrow it down as I don't remember which lodge that was. If you know the park well I could upload the images and maybe you can recognize which lodge that was and or which river. Otherwise it would be save to say that the image was taken in the southern part of the Krugerpark.
- Thanks for helping with the insects photos!! Amada44 talk to me 11:10, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I inserted an approximate coord for the meanwhile - couldn't pinpoint it. Any further Kruger uploads, or African plant uploads would be useful and interesting. JMK (talk) 10:07, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Vielen Dank! LG, Amada44 talk to me 19:02, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
- Dann spricht auch der Boden sehr für Pulsatilla alpina ssp. apiifolia. Auch die weißblühende Pulsatilla alpina ssp. alpina ist nämlich eine Kalkart. --Robert Flogaus-Faust (talk) 21:19, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I think that you are looking for images for commons. Category:Media from the National Archives and Records Administration needing categories as of 8 October 2011 has many JPEG images without a category. You might be able to give a few images a category once a week ;) Regards --Chris.urs-o (talk) 09:34, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello there,
I recently noticed that you had deleted File:Jammu,_Kashmir_and_Ladakh.JPG as it was a copyright violation of the site (http://img4.ph.126.net/RMPDqGcLMKL_yJ2clVVfPQ==/2631791032261678004.jpg). This image was not a copyright violation however, as it was a derivative of File:Kashmir_map.svg created by User:PlaneMad and 126.net does not have a home page available (DNS lookup failed), so there is no suggestion of prior copyright of the image. Therefore, it seems, the derivative was created here and uploaded there afterwards..
Please re-upload the image for this reason.
Cheers
--Rvd4life (talk) 20:22, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thie file I have deleted was much smaller than the source I have linked. So it was most likely create off wiki with File:Kashmir_map.svg as source. The changes where not done by uploader thus uploader had no rights to upload the image (the author of the changes has to agree too!). - I process photos from the web, and put them in articles that don't have illustrations. I made changes on this file File:Kashmir_map.svg, to illustrate the border of Kashmir. In the license it is written: You are free: to remix – to adapt the work. So I will upload this file again. Now I'm going to use orange color for the border line. --Opus88888 (talk) 07:47, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- You are not allowed to process images from the web! That is called copyright violation and is not permitted. Please refrain from doing that in future. What you did now to the image File:Kashmir_border.JPG is okay. But you are not allowed to use {{Own}} as source. The source of the image is this image: File:Kashmir_map.svg. I have fixed that. Please be more careful with copyright! Amada44 talk to me 11:55, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Aloe hexapetala
Hi Amada44,
Please look at the Aloe hexapetala category. Can you tell me, why one of my pictures does'nt show? Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 10:36, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
This is that picture, which can't be seen in categories File:Asparagales - Aloe hexapetala - kew 2.jpg. Delete it, and I could upload it again. OK? DenesFeri (talk) 15:47, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi,
Thank you, but now there are two of them. Delete one of them, please. One of them is not necessary. File:Asparagales - Aloe hexapetala - kew 3.jpg Regards. DenesFeri (talk) 10:03, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
lossles removal of watermark
So, how do you losslessly remove a watermark? – JBarta (talk) 18:44, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, the trick is to not recompress the existing image. Opening a jpeg and saving it again degenerates the image quality. For photoshop there is a plugin which avoids that. It only saves the parts of the image which have been edited and leaves the rest of the jpeg data untouched. But yea, the the title is a bit misleading. Cheers, Amada44 talk to me 19:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
- Interesting bit about the Photoshop plugin. I'd never heard of such a thing. I guess that just about is "lossless watermark removal". – JBarta (talk) 11:04, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

File:Torcs-NG-pylon2.png deletion
Hi, I see that you have removed this file because of "copyright violation". So what? The original file is licensed under FAL and it featured correct attribution, and I can provide - though unnecessary - written permission to publish... Ocirne94 (talk) 21:03, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hey. You are right. I have deleted it in error, I'm sorry and I have undeleted it. As far as I can see the license isn't {{FAL}} but {{GFDL}} (see here). Could you point me to where it says that the image is licensed as FAL? cheers, Amada44 talk to me 13:56, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- See here: the whole program's artwork is licensed under FAL. Thank you for undeleting :-) BTW, I see that you have removed the file from Category:Textures; you're probably right, but can you point me to the right category for a "texture" intended in the video game meaning? - Hi Skapheandros. Did you take all those images in your collage? Or did you cut them out from magazines? Because that is what it look like to me. If you did that and you don't know who the original author of those images is, then you have used the images without permission which makes it a copy violation and your image will be deleted. Amada44 talk to me 13:51, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry again! what´s you see? it is a collage, an art composition of several images from me without procedence was cut to illustrate a visual poetry, we didn´t know from where, maybe consider it is art-work get done for this fine same funtion can be observed as only an object of meaning manufacturing ideas of an artist. For what´s have you got a cat died at the front of your User page? Hello,
Thanks a lot for the picture you'va added on the French article about Dreamtime boulder. This is really nice works you've done. Regarding to the lines you've added on the picture I'm wondering that you are a climber. Am I wrong? --Helgismidh (talk) 15:23, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

If you want to add that to the article? My french isn't good enough that I could write the caption for it. I have added it to the wp:en and de article. And thank you for the french + better description to the image! cheers, Amada44 talk to me 15:52, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Video too green
Hey there, thanks for uploading all those videos. I just wanted to let you know that File:Round ray.ogv is much more green in the .ogv than it is in the Flickr video. Can that be fixed?
Also: The person from the ManU video replied, and wanted to let you know about http://www.flickr.com/photos/apasciuto/4841704859/in/set-72157624487458865/ (which, IMO, has a lot of value and I'd upload it myself if I knew how.)
Keep up the good work! Sven Manguard Wha? 03:40, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yea, they are a bit greener I don't know where that comes from. the problem is though, that the video is so green that I can't really do any color correction. I don't quite get it about the other video. Should I convert and upload it for you? Cheers, Amada44 talk to me 06:49, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Shark identification
How was the identification reaches for the shark on File:UShaka Sea World 1072.jpg? It appears to have several features that would be strange for Carcharhinus limbatus, notably no white flank stripe, has poorly defined (blurry edge) black tips to underside of pectoral fins, no dark tip to lower lobe of tail fin, and appears to have a quite errect first dorsal fin with a very rounded tip. The first dorsal fin shape could perhaps be explained by age of shark and angle of photo, but the remaining features are harder to explain. Carcharhinus identifications can be quite difficult and I'm not sure what I'd call the shark on the photo, but I'm struggling to see it as C. limbatus. Regards, RN1970 (talk) 00:40, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks for looking closely at the shark image. I did't identify it (Lupo did) So I am not sure to how he identified the shark. There was a list somewhere on the uShaka homepage of all species they have (the list was not complete and not very scientific) and I think Lupo and I used that list to narrow down the possibilities. So please feel free to modify the species. There are also some more unidentified sharks of the uShaka aquarium here: Category:UShaka Sea World (unidentified) maybe you can identify some there. Thanks for the help. cheers, Amada44 talk to me 06:49, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay (vacation). When I get the time, I'll look further into this matter. If you remember where the uShaka shark list was, it might be a good starting point. If not, I'll have a go anyway. Cheers, RN1970 (talk) 16:50, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- np. I was looking for the links but its seems that uShaka redesigned the homepage because all the links are dead. Thanks for looking into it though and I hope that you have enjoyed your holiday. cheers, Amada44 talk to me 17:42, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

A question. Can you make the pink sculpture in middle of this photo disappear so that this image can be saved? The image can only be used with the buildings but the modern sculpture violates COM:FOP in Taiwan. If you can't, that's OK, I suppose. This image will be deleted. I see that you asked if the person could speak English, and the response was positive. However, I had reached out to the Thai Wikipedia to find an admin who could help. Taweetham offered to help, so I forwarded the email to that admin. Photosubmissions
I'd like to see if we could get Photosubmissions down to zero, at least for a moment. I know you've worked there a lot, can we do this today?--Sphilbrick (talk) 14:30, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

- I guess I'm no longer new, but there doesn't seem to be any formal training.
- I've been working at the back of the queue, where some were over 60 days old. I made the decision that if the agent hasn't responded in that time,, they won't be unhappy if someone else takes it over. As we get to the front of the queue, we'll have to address it. My OTTOMH proposal, if an email form the person has not been touched for two weeks, we can take over (unless we see some complicated issues that might be best left to another agent.) If shorter, then I'll sent a polite note to the agent indicating my goal to get it down to zero, and asking if they plan to respond soon, or would mind if someone else did.--Sphilbrick (talk) 14:44, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

- I guess we won't be able to get it literally to zero without some help from our German and Spanish compatriots, but we are down to three English requests, so we are just about there. Thanks for the help.--Sphilbrick (talk) 17:59, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

One of my goals is to try to keep it down. Many tickets are easier to handle early on, when the person writing is likely to be very responsive. It doesn't take longer to handle when it is new, and sometimes less time, so if we can keep it down, it should be less work.
The Commons queue has some challenges.
There was some talk of having an IRC session to goes through some of the backlog, I don;t recall now whether this was info inspired, permissions inspired, or both, but it was proposed, and I haven't heard anything recently.
I'd love to do that with some of the experienced agents in to help with some questions.
Another challenge with commons is if it is more than seven days old, the odds are high that the image has been deleted, then you have to track down a Commons admin. So I've love to have a group session, with a Commons admin joining in, so they could be handled.
Since I'm on a roll, I have one other vague theory related to Commons. Some of the requests are problematic, because the person clearly hasn't seen how to write a proper permission statement. I'd like to identify where people are getting the address, so we can give them better advice at the beginning. However, this is still a vague plan, and I haven't done much on it.--Sphilbrick (talk) 19:13, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I am admin on commons. sooo, are you in irc at all? I'm away tomorrow all day, but an other time?
- people mostly get the email from the no permission tag. example: File:Delayed_offside_or_icing.png. Amada44 talk to me 20:12, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I can't believe that didn't occur to me. That sounds likely. Let me work on my thoughts about a different process.
- I didn't realize you were a Commons admin. That's helpful.
- I will be fairly busy at work Tu-Fr, but can do something either over the weekend, or on Monday. Manybe we can knock off a few old ones.--Sphilbrick (talk) 20:51, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Cat a Lot?
Noticed you fixed some categories of various horse photos from "Kentucky" to "Animals of Kentucky." Probably best to just toss both categories, as the basic thing about most of those photos is that someone took them at various horse shows IN Kentucky, the horses themselves may or may not be from Kentucky, the breeds are not necessarily developed in Kentucky (one is, but not most) and so on. Best to categorize as "Horses" if there is no other animal-related category on a given image (in some cases, we've been by and tagged the proper breed, but not all, there were about 400 of these "Heather Moreton" images uploaded). But if you have a categorization tool that does a bunch fast, that is SO cool and we DO appreciate your help! Thanks! Montanabw (talk) 16:44, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
