Mapping and Country

[edit]

It would be super useful to integrate the various geocordinates that come from either either the location (P276) or country (P17) or from the depicts (P180)'s geocoordinate or location. Sadads (talk) 21:51, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Realized I didn't @Mike Peel: , Sadads (talk) 18:42, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Sadads: Thanks for the suggestion! I've added coordinates for monuments, others need a bit more work. SDC doesn't support coordinates yet, so I can't add the location of the photograph yet. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:38, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
High @Mike Peel: location (P276) takes a Wikidata item as the location -- I am suggesting infer the coordinates from that item.Sadads (talk) 20:07, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Sadads: That's true, but that's then two steps removed from the image location. How accurate will that be for most files? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:16, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Would it make sense to logic that: if there is not geocoordinate on the file, then surface the location of the image?
As for country (P17) I think it would be great to start with a query link to "find other content in this country" for right now with haswbstatement searches. Sadads (talk) 21:26, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

PageID

[edit]

Mike {{#invoke:Structured Data|getMID}} can be replaced with M{{PAGEID}}. It is a bit shorter. --Jarekt (talk) 03:58, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi, what's the benefit of having categories as a parameter of this template? I can only see how this will confuse all the categorization tools (and my categorization bot). As far as I see, categories will also not be modeled as part of structured data. Can we remove this parameter and include categories the normal way? --Schlurcher (talk) 12:42, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I will move ahead and remove categories for now. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:42, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Something broken

[edit]

This template breaks something in the license template of File:Manifestação estudantil contra a Ditadura Militar 412.tif. Same license worked before. --Jarekt (talk) 04:47, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted it to the last version without errors. --Jarekt (talk) 04:51, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt: Not a problem with this template, it was a problem with the copyright metadata. I've changed it, but there's still an issue with how PD licenses are modeled on Wikidata, it seems. (This template uses topic's main template (P1424) of the linked copyright item to display the license). Also pinging @Joalpe: . Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 07:51, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, Thanks for checking. By the way, a while ago user:Multichill suggested that I should look into writing module related to copyrights based on SDC and Wikidata. I began with Module:License, it still has a way to go, but it is already able to handle great many cases. --Jarekt (talk) 00:59, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt: OK. I'm generally stuck as to how to move forward with this work, given the approaches that have been taken by you, Multichill and others, so I've just been focusing on categories for now. Would be good to work out something at some point that would properly transition to using SDC by default rather than wikitext, but I think we need to have a general chat about that - maybe a 1-day online meeting, maybe needs to wait for the next Wikidatacon or Wikimania, really not sure. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 10:46, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, I am happy to meet (virtually) and talk. I was mostly focusing on getting few templates SDC compatible, and currently files using {{Information}}, {{Artwork}} , {{Book}} can get most of the content from SDC and Wikidata. So for example if you upload all the artwork metadata to Wikidata and things like source, digital representation of (P6243), etc. to SDC than a file only needs "{{Artwork}}" + license and categories in wikitext. Same with Information template, see wikitext of File:Seneca Rocks climbing - 13.jpg. Once Module:License is handling more PD tag types I will create template interface or add it somehow to infobox templates (maybe create Template:Information+ which would combine Information template with license. Those are my plans. By the way, I am still trying to empty Category:Pages with script errors and there are still great many lua errors caused by {{Wikidata Infobox}} many of them "year in place" categories with "The time allocated for running scripts has expired." error, which strangely is only visible when viewing the page in language other than English, see example. Can we use some scaled down version of the template for those categories. I purged all those pages, so now we have 100s not 1000s, those categories make it hard to see other issues with other templates and modules. --Jarekt (talk) 22:26, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
