To prevent misunderstandings about Data:COVID-19 Cases in Santa Clara County, California.tab, it would be great to have a edit notice along the lines of:

To update this table based on Santa Clara County Public Health's coronavirus data dashboard, first install jq, then run this Bash script.

Thanks!

@Mxn: Isn’t there an easier way to update it? Instructing folks to install software like jq and Bash (most people use Windows, which doesn’t come with Bash preinstalled!) is not the best solution. Probably a Toolforge tool, which runs on Wikimedia’s Linux infrastructure? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:41, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tacsipacsi: That's on my to-do list, certainly. But it's better than the alternative of manually clicking around in a PowerBI dashboard to update 40 or so different values, which used to take me 15–20 minutes every day without the script. In the meantime, I don't know how else to discourage people from mistakenly adding a row for the current day with the wrong counts, based on what they think they see in the dashboard's main screen. I can keep reverting such edits, but it's a poor experience for everyone involved. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 23:55, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mxn: I hope you won’t do it because the whole pandemic is over before you get to it. But unfortunately it doesn’t seem likely… When you finish the tool, the edit notice will need another update—isn’t it better sending people to Data talk:COVID-19 Cases in Santa Clara County, California.tab#Contributing? Like this:

@Tacsipacsi: Sure, that's a fine improvement, thank you. (This is part of a series of nine data tables I'm maintaining in the same fashion, so I'll be relieved to hand them over to Tildebot.) – Minh Nguyễn 💬 23:01, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mxn: I created the page, but apparently it isn’t enough: MediaWiki:editnotice-486 needs to be created with {{editnotice load}} to make edit notices actually appear on any Data-namespace page. (I was able to create this page, because template editors can modify edit notices, but I don’t have the right to edit the MediaWiki namespace, so that needs to be handed over to an admin.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:49, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tacsipacsi: Ah, thanks for your help in any case. I've requested that change in MediaWiki talk:Editnotice-486. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 04:15, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated MediaWiki talk:Editnotice-486 to contain {{editnotice load}}. —RP88 (talk) 21:24, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@RP88: Thanks, the edit notice works perfectly now. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:18, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
