Template talk:Archive box
Broken?
[edit]This template's appearance has recently changed (border removed, displayed on the left rather than on the right). Could someone see what happened? --Eusebius (talk) 07:59, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Update template
[edit]Please update the template from the current en:Template:Archive box (from which it was copied originally). The current en.wp version offers more features, including an optional search box. Rd232 (talk) 10:46, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- A straight copy/paste makes it lose the frame around it and calls for a redlink (on Commons) Template:Talk other. Just from looking at preview. I don't have time atm to track down exactly what's going on. If you or someone else could, that'd be great. Killiondude (talk) 18:54, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well I've brought across , but it's more complicated than it looks. On Wikipedia (currently), {{Archivebox}} is just a legacy wrapper for {{Archives}}. On Commons, the templates are still separate (archivebox uses either {{Archive list}} or {{Archive list long}}). Commons' {{Archives}} looks fairly similar to Wikipedia (with search option etc).... I'm sure it can be sorted, but it's more work than I bargained for. Rd232 (talk) 19:20, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Request withdrawn. Rd232 (talk) 22:08, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Add search to template
[edit]And reinstate previous Update template request? It was a good request and I for one need a means to search Commons talk archives where links just rot away. At least someone (not me) could try to add a search box similar to the one on my User:84user page. I quickly pasted {{Search box}} here as an example, without any layout. See {{Search box}} for detailed documentation. -84user (talk) 13:16, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Please make a specific request that an admin can implement with a minimum of technical knowledge. If you need help with the technical details, please post a request at the Help desk. Powers (talk) 17:15, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Internationalization
[edit]Hi! I've created an i18n subpage (/i18n). Can you replace Archives with {{Arcive box/i18n|lang={{{lang|}}} }}? Thanks! --tacsipacsi (talk) 05:36, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Done with translate extension so the English translation will be remained protected but other translation can be added easily. Please review the hu translation which is based yours. −ebraminiotalk 18:52, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I think it's can be handled with {{Autotranslate}}: {{Autotranslate|base=Archive box/i18n}}, this is a clearer way. --tacsipacsi (talk) 10:35, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Weird layout with standard use of template ArchiveBox?
[edit]Hi. I tried to put my talk page into an ArchiveBox. But the outcome is not what I intended. Esp. the Template Template:Start multicol und the Template Template:Multicol break do not seem to do what the documentation says. What did I do wrong?? --hdamm (talk) 08:53, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
Edit request
[edit]Change {{Archive link}} to {{#if:{{{link|}}}|{{{link|}}}|{{Archive link}}}} so the link below the archive box image doesn't have to be Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Talk page guidelines#how to archive. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 12:07, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Archive search
[edit]Any User:talk content that has been archived is no longer searchable in the web browser (using Ctrl+F or similar) on the User:talk page. All archived discussions are effectively "hidden", unless the user visits each archive sub-page and searches in the browser (easy when there are 3 or fewer), or builds a custom search in the search box. English Wikipedia's {Archive box} includes a "Search archives" button. Adding the same here would be great.
(This has been hinted at twice before.)
Until search is added to this {Archive box}, here is a a work-around that adds a right-aligned "Search archives" box below the {Archive box}:
- ({Archive box} only works if the names are exactly "Archive 1", ... and only lists through "Archive 100" (see doc).)
- ({Search box} can be adapted to archive pages named using other conventions.)
{{Archive box|auto=yes}} {| class="infobox" style="width:1em;float:right" |- |{{Search box |root={{SUBST:FULLPAGENAME}}/Archive |nosuffix=y |search-break=no |search-width=22 |search-button-label=Search archives }} |}

Dir
[edit]New param was added for using in Commons:License review/Requests and similar pages (with the variable LTR/RTL text direction in header).
If someone may make this code more easy - feel free, be bold ;) --Kaganer (talk) 22:10, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
What is auto=long
[edit]I see it here:
It's in the top line:
{{archive box|auto=long}}
{{User:MiszaBot/config
|archive = Commons talk:Threshold of originality/Archive %(counter)d
|algo = old(30d)
|counter = 2
|maxarchivesize = 100K
|minthreadstoarchive = 1
|minthreadsleft = 8
|archiveheader = {{Automatic archive navigator}}
}}
I don't see this parameter explained in the documentation. --Timeshifter (talk) 19:22, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Where is auto-updating of talk page links explained
[edit]I noticed this link (before I updated it):
That discussion was moved to an archive. Here is the standard archive link:
The original talk page link still works. It goes to the talk page, and then a popup shows up with the archive link. The link works, though it is different:
This is the first time I knew of this auto-updating of talk page links. Where is this important function explained in documentation? I don't see any info on it here:
- User:MiszaBot/config - not explained on linked pages either.
- Template:Archive box
