Talk:Canis lupus
canis lupus familiaris
[edit]creating that page was a totally strange thing to do. The whole point of that section was to give a small sample of the most prominant subspecies on the same page as the rest of the species. Moving it into a seperate page totally removed the whole point of its existance. I tried to redirect it to category:dogs. However unfortunately redirects to categorys are still fucked up so i have redirected it here instead. Plugwash 14:15, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- So are you saying that dog does not deserve its own article (besides the category)? Where you list all the interwikis? muriel@pt 12:41, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
commons is not wikipedia and pages here are not encyclopedia articles. whether to use categories or normal pages for the lowest level of categorisation is a highly controversial issue. However firstly dogs is not the lowest level of clasification and secondly creating pages and categories that are redundant with each other is just creating more confusion. - You are very much right: this is not an encyclopaedia and thats why we need the interwikis. I understand the need of categories and the need putting the articles in the scientific name for the sake of universality. But, as you said, redirects to categories are not working well. I'm currently searching commons a lot for pictures of animals and i tell you that i find 90% of what i'm looking for just because i know how this works. A common user will miss a lot. Confusion? You are veryvery right. Creating articles, not as articles but as a place to dump pictures (hence the interwikis), is the only way at the momment to go around the confusion. I'm aware thats being discussed and i already placed my vote. muriel@pt 11:12, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Dingo image
[edit]I moved the dingo image to this page and created a redirect from Canis lupus dingo. The only drawback I see for this are the lost interwikilinks, but otherwise it would be IMO too much to create articles for every subspecies. --Conti|✉ 18:30, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Image Twice
[edit]There's an image under Canis lupus occidentalis (Mackenzie Valley Wolf) that is also under Unidentified wolves.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.88.111.2 (talk • contribs) 14:20, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
German descriptions
[edit]How can I add a German desription to the pictures, combined with links to de.wikipedia, without bothering those who would prefer latin, english of french descriptions? --Hei ber (talk) 11:05, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Description
[edit]Why aren't all of the languages I put in the blue box displaying? They display here, but not in the table. The list should be a lot longer.
